As a swiss person, it's nice to see how Jo Meyer gets the recognition he deserves. He has always been one of my favorite swiss drummers. To anyone who might be interested: One of my favorite swiss jazz bands is still Nik Bartsch's Ronin. A polyrhythmic zen jazz master. Music that touches heart and mind. Subtle yet complex, meditative yet funky. Not as straightforward as Jojo Meyer, but I think you will probably not regret giving it a try. My favorite album: Holon favorite track (also as an introduction to their sound): Modul 44 (it's on spotify) Ps: also congrats to the transcriber, great work!
wow just wow... I don't know which is more impressive... the transcription or the solo... cause I couldn't never be able to write that out! Mad props to you TONY ROBINSON
Thank you so much for the transcription! The drums have so many dimensions to them! Everyone has their favorite drummers and when you watch others and think about your favorites and see other styles, techniques, uses, their mastery of speed, volume, time, it makes you realize there's no such thing as a Top 10 list! It's always subjective based on the person making the list, but it will never be complete or include everybody who deserves to be included!
Great Job !! You are a reference! Certainly the best transcriber on UA-cam. In my opinion, if it's not already done, you'll work for a great drum magazine. Congratulations for all your work and the hours spent for the pleasure and education of all. Good continuation. Sorry for my english, I'm french;)
To be honest I am kind of scared of transcribing and i truly dont know where ti start and how to start. I csn reaf sheet music a bit, but I kind of dont seem to push myself doing it. On the other hand its such an invaluable skill to have, especially when you want to learn from others.
@@cx777o It can be a little intimidating at first for sure but anybody can do it with practice !! You definitely need to be able to start with reading rhythmic notation before you can listen to something and write it. I teach privately in Florida but most likely you're somewhere else in the world. I'm in the midst though of building an online website so I can reach everyone ! Facebook message me if you're interested and I'll let you know when it's ready ! You'll be surprised at how quickly you can learn to read and write if you learn the right way.
@@DailyChops I posted about your youtube page on my facebook page ! Already had a bass player that I play with say I will be following that youtube channel for sure ! :o)
Lol holy shit.. I got a headache just tryin to read it haha. I couldn't imagine walking into a music store and being like "oh a book with transcribed jojo" then actually looking at and slowly closing the book!! Lol
Funny enough that part's fairly achievable, just a fast RLL rudiment- but those quadruples around 0:42 onwards are absolutely insane. His hands are ridiculous.
Fairly certain Jojo has the greatest off-hand of any drummer of any era. His versatility and complete lack of any restrictions on what he can do is unmatched, it's just mind bending. Some other drummers might have some more creative licks, beats and grooves, but no one can match his hand technique.
Dude that was amazing (and Jojo is not bad either). Transcribing in the pocket! 2:42 WDF?!. There are a lot of amazing drummers out there but none as cool as Jojo. He is one cool cat for sure.
I don't think the "moving score" approach is optimal. I think displaying something like maybe four stationary bars at a time and having the red indicator move instead would be a better experience. That way it's more like reading a text, which is something most people are more familiar and experienced with. Great work on the transcription and thanks for the video!
It's better for people who are more interested in the performance than the transcription, hopefully he has a link the the sheet but most people like me couldn't even begin to read along that fast
@@vitamin9165 If people are interested in the performance, why wouldn't they just watch the original video? I like to watch transcription videos like this - with a clear indication of exactly where in the score the music is at any given time - because by just looking at the sheet music and listening to the sound, I'm not able to accurately follow along. But even with an indicator and an animated score, I'm not able to follow along 100%, so I'd like to "single out" the most maybe one or two interesting part of every maybe four bars, and that's very difficult when the score is constantly moving. I think it would be made easier the way I proposed.
You are mental for transcribing this! How do you go from a PDF to animating this in AE? I've got some piano sheet music I'd like to display in a scrolling format but I have no idea how to do it 🙁
Thanks! There are lots of tutorials on UA-cam for AE - that's how I learnt how to do it. However, you would need to export all the music on a single line, or chop up the exported pdf score, depending on which scoring software you are using
@@DailyChops Thanks. Yeah I've been using Musescore and you can't export to one line. I started to chop up a multi-line score but quickly realised it would take about a year to do over 1000 bars haha. Looks like I'll need to get my hands on Sibelius. Do you animate the position of the score by hand? I'd love to see a transcription of a Matt Garstka solo btw 😉
@@oli7173 Haha, yes it is quite time-consuming to chop up a PDF, though I have had to do it for clients in the past who want their own transcription animating. Yes, I animate the score by hand. There are other options, of course, though they all have their downsides. You could, for example, record the playback from your notation software (e.g. with screen capture software) and sync with the video over the top. Lots of people like to use Soundslice as a compromise, though the notation is limited and the sync process is much like what you have to do in AE anyway, so I don’t see the point at the moment. Yeah, I love Matt Gartska - he’s definitely on my list! I just need to find the time as really busy at the moment :)
