Awesome model but 300 dollars for a umx f14 is insane. I know it’s edf but edfs aren’t that pricy.

Keep in mind that the Freewing 80mm F-14 we own cost close to $1,200 after upgrading it to fly without being underpowered or being limited to a simple six channel setup. The jet also doesn't come with a receiver. To make ours work well, we had to:
      1. Buy two 100 amp ESCs and two 80mm 1920kv inrunner motors - $300
      2. Buy an AR10360T receiver and a remote receiver due to all of the metal/carbon in the jet: $200
      3. Replace the main wheels - $15
      4. Replace the stab servos with Hitec units: $60
Total price: $1200. The E-flite 40mm comes ready to fly once you bind it to your transmitter for 25% of that price. That's a solid deal.

@@velcro62 Yep! It's a UMX jet so it does have an integrated receiver. It's as simple as binding and flying. Much, much less work than the Freewing jet if you want an F-14 but don't want to invest a ton of money into it.

@@TwoBrosRC that is fair but 40mm ducted fans are about 35 bucks each and the ecs are maybe 25 each. Servos are a dime a dozen nowadays and receivers are 50 bucks. Foam and wood to build the plane itself are dirt church too. Also since this is a large company manufacturing they will get better pricing on the products needed to manufacture. It is a good product and it seems to fly great but 300 for a umx is nuts. What makes this as expensive that the f16 tail heavy reviewed while it’s a 3rd the size? I am probably wrong but it just seems insane.

Very beautiful indeed but one has to use their batteries because the battery compartment is narrow, especially if one wants to use older batteries. The other thing is it can only be belly landed on short grass otherwise those winghinges pop out and u have to open four screews to open it up each time, to fix it. Otherwise I would buy it, it`s really a lovely plane. By the way, you fly really good, I wished I had a cousin, friend who could fly like you.

I have one but with limited options I hand launch it without the gear and belly land on grass. After the hype I was initially disappointed with it as it feels fragile and I had a couple of poor hand launches because I couldn’t grip both nacelles well enough. However like others I added a launch grip between the nacelles which made things much easier and can now hand launch confidently every time. I’m really enjoying this jet now and you’re right in that it handles like a bigger EDF with AS3X working its magic. It also holds up to belly landings and the odd bump pretty well too. Having now seen what it can do, I think the price is pretty fair for an accessible F-14.

I understand the work involved to bring a little F-14 to market. It's immense and little of them to choose from. I do like this one but I'm not giving $300 for it. The very limited battery selection hurts it as well. The "frugal" part of me just can't do it. I'd rather have a laundry list of other 30, 50 and 64mm edfs out there, that cost a lot less. I realize most are PNP but who doesn't have a spare rx or 2 lying around.
Great flying Jon, it was really nice to see the F-14 land and take off with the wings swept back. Nice work on the camera Tony. AirHammer out!!

This thing will teach you how to fly a wing loaded edf it’s not the most acrobatic thing but it will make you a better pilot. It’s pretty durable and tbh 300$ is cheap in todays economy. I don’t feel bad selling it at the store I work at. My coworker loves his I have no bad things to say about mine other than it can get sketchy if you don’t keep your speed up and pay attention to your voltage callouts like most edfs. Toss it like your life depends on it if you hand launch and good quality batteries are your friend. I may try to y harness twin rudders on one. If I can figure it out there seems to be an open port.

You changed my mind on this plane, it's clear that the pilot matters a lot compared to other reviews I saw you show what it can do.
Now I wouldn't call this UMX, the battery alone weighs more than any UMX probably but I like the size. Would have been cool if it had rudders as well, the A-10 has all 3 surfaces and is a lot smaller.
Hope you get a 50mm Habu as well, that's next on my list and really curious what you think and what you can do with it.

At more than 1 pound I'm not sure if this is what I would call a UMX jet, at least not here in Canada. With what's going on up here right now I'll just play it safe and stick with my sub 250 gram UMX A-10. Great video BTW.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  Рік тому +1

It's not literally a UMX jet, but it does use UMX electronics like linear servos. Consider giving it a chance. It's easy to fly and it's an F-14. You're not gonna get an F-14 at this scale or this price elsewhere.

Its a neat plane, but seems too limited to be a real fun one. With being bank and yank and a sweep function, you could probably blow through its appeal before getting your money’s worth.
That said, its essentially one of the few beginner approachable edf’s, and there aren’t even that many small edf planes that do compete at its price and ease of flight.

Lets be honest, you can't fly a jet that has flaps in real life, without flaps scale. It's just not possible. I'm sure they considered both, make the wings a bit bigger or wider or something to be able to slow it down, and flaps. They did neither to keep it scale looking, also less complicated thus cheaper for the consumer. Just my opinion.
