    Ppl also dont understand, even with 8k in profit on a run, you have your employees, utilities, and space rent to pay AFTER that. We commend you Danny! Thank you for putting the behind the desk aspect of it out there! Will continue to support lgs like your own! Keep being awesome for us in the hobby! We love and appreciate you!

      That’s 8k on a single run they have multiple card games that sell out too such as yuguoh Pokémon Digimon MTG dragon ball force of will an a lot more the employees don’t make more then 15 an hour with no over time an rent is around 1-1500 a month depending on location

      @@manny5848 Just checked out their website and they don't carry any of that except Pokémon. For stores that do like myself, I usually don't sell out and much of it sells at a market price that is losing money for us. All of those other games that you just mentioned, most of the time are losses just to get allocations up for the good sets, unless you hold it long enough. But there's only so long you can hold while sets are pouring in and the well dries up. Like Danny said, and I can confirm, it is a very tough balancing act.

    Great video as always!!!!! This one is especially important for people who are consumers who never owned a business to understand. I have this conversation with my customers at my cigar shop all the time. Prices for small companies have and will always be more expensive then the big guys. And when the market is hot the small guys have to make something to make all the shipping work worthwhile

    Good video. I had a lgs open right in the middle of the lockdowns. Wanted to support them since my town never had a shop before. Literal $100 celebtations etb. Showed them even scalpers on ebay are selling for less. They told be to pretty much F off and buy from someone else. I was ready to drop over $500 on my local business. Got snubbed. So I bought all my celebrations from another lgs and various big box retailers online. I ended up spending closer to $1000. They will go out of business. I get the issue with not having the capital. But it is very short sighted. Because look at now as you said. We got a wave of battle styles, chilling reign, evolving skies, celebrations and fusion strike all at one time and prices tanked over night. Now, when every store is stuck with product and no money, and I am looking to buy, will I order 5 booster boxes for $95 at my LGS, or the lgs that tried their best to stay at msrp when they could have taken the easy money? People remember when they get screwed, and take their business elsewhere. I am dedicated to sellers who are hundreds of miles away. If it is hard, so be it. The fact that pokemon sells this well when the economy is this bad, seems like a weak excuse to me. When everything sells super fast, even if the distributors are raising prices, it should be easy to tighten the belt and keep pressing forward, because many of us have been fired, or had businesses fold because there were no more customers or regulations ruined everything. Card stores have been a rare winner in this economy, and throwing away good will when times are better for card stores, means that when times are not good, there will be a reckoning to pay. Things will stabilize when many stores just lose too much good will. I'm now going to target for cards just because I know I won't be messed with.

    It worries me to see shelves full of product collecting dust on lgs shelves because they won't adjust their prices. A shop near me still prices 50-packs of cardsavers at $34.99, even though the shortage is long-past and 200-packs are back to $25. A lot of people would say they "deserve" to fail, but it just makes me sad to see this happen.

      I mean the ball is in their court. They are making to conscious decision to price their products at peak scalper prices when the market has shifted. They do deserve to fail if they can't read the market.

    Idk if you see new comments on your older videos, but I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this info, all the info I’ve been consuming of yours lately (old and new).
    My fiancé and I (13 year together lol) have gotten back into… well opening packs for now, but after watching many of your videos the last few months, today, I’m going to start opening some accounts to start selling. I’ve been able obtained a few “older” items, not old old, at a pretty good discount. After doing some more research, I’ve found some deals on other items being able to make 25% profit if sold right now at the prices listed on TCG. So I’m pulling the trigger today.
    Looking forward to learning from you on shipping, best places to sell, etc. I’m sure your too busy to give personal advice, but I know I’m going to have questions, I’m a go all in and go hard kinda girl, luckily my fiancé is very supportive of this venture! Anyways, hope to connect with you sometime on a personal level!
    Thanks again!

    Owner of and LGS here and had always sell at MSRP prices, excellent excellent video, the only things I will add are 3;
    1) a lot of us work with more than 1 distributor so its everything you explained multiplied so you keep them happy.
    2) everyone love MSRP as soon is for something they really WANT, if its anything else they want to pay "Market prices" it doesn't matter your LGS is losing money, current example ALL THE FUSION LINE.
    3) No all LGS can buy the quantities Danny can, his orders are on the thousands items that's why he can access those prices. You basically buy by items, cases or pallets, each bracket gives you a better price. Think in your LGS even a lot of local Game Stop buy by cases, no pallets.
    Thank you Danny you are sincerely the best, we sell at MSRP mostly for karma, we love this business and that's the only reason we stay in the game. ( -;

    Completely understand the struggles you mention in this video. I think we as consumers have collective bargaining power but fail to use it (it's hard on such a large scale). I refused to buy "market" prices for Evolving Skies or Celebrations and I'm glad I had the patience to just wait (got everything I wanted for near MSRP). One of my local LGSs was trying to sell Celebrations ETBs at $90, and I calmly said "not the price I want to buy at" and left. Another LGS had them the same day for $55 (like you) and I was happy to pay at that price.
    The first store said they had the price the way it was (and limits on buying) as anti-scalping methods. While I understand the concern, $90 for an ETB just felt like squeezing as much money as possible from customers and it soured me from buying from that store again. As you mentioned, this may hurt those stores in the long run.

    Talking to the owner of my LGS. He said he’s really had to spread his resources through many different distributors so he doesn’t get screwed. Also, the price he pays changes depending on the market too. So they’re not making a extra money because of market mark up. The profit margins on Pokemon are already abysmal compared to most other companies.

      Not only Pokémon trading cards. I run a collectibles store and it's the same thing. We came close to bankruptcy 4 times in 1 year because trying to keep the price competitive we had to cut down employment, cut down spending on new products, etc because we only made enough to pay pre orders, rent, and other things we couldn't get out of.

    Using market price is why I’ve stopped shopping at my two local lgs’s. Both now refuse to sell for msrp. One blindly follows the price on Amazon the older shop sold at msrp for years prior to Champion’s path. The older store I had been a loyal customer since base set, that’s around 20 years. It just baffles me because I can order the same product online from another store and even with shipping calculations in- it’s still cheaper then the store charging double, sometimes triple msrp at my lgs. Recently I saw a friend post on Twitter that the lgs had the Reshi-Charizard Box gx premium box, a Walmart exclusive product, selling in the store for $150 because of how in demand the product is.

    Transparency!! Thank you Danny! Really appreciate what you do and I think I speak for most collectors when I say that we don’t think you’re stupid for wanting a strong and loyal customer base and still being able to hit your margins. It’s fair and we don’t feel like we’re being taken advantage of. The market prices for celebrations were so high bc supply at retail price was non existent. Scalpers got there first and big box stores had nothing left. LGS went with market price , if they didn’t then a scalper would’ve bought from them at retail and sold it on a secondary market anyway. It’s a strange cycle, but understandable. Not ideal, but understandable.

    Amazing video as always! Keep up the great, honest work! You inspired me to start selling and now i have thousands of sales on TCG Player! I've now shown a few of my buddies how they can make some extra cash to enjoy the games they love! Thanks Danny.

    Enjoying your channel alot! I've had to sub a few times I keep forgetting my passwords 🤣
    Question though regarding the allocations being forced on you, for lack of better words. If your distributor is aware that certain items don't sell is it possible for them to not get that item or as much?

    Love your videos. Real quick question: why are distributors raising prices? They seem to be taking advantage of the situation but worst since they seem to have a monopoly for lgs

      Heh, you should see what they do with older product they sell to stores. They were selling items at listed eBay market prices for hidden fates etbs. Not even sold, the LISTED amounts.

    I'm a collector and not a seller but I'm a business manager... Am I hearing it right that your saying not only your distribution sold you $14ks of dead stock and you only made $8k of profit from one celebration product... Let's make that 4 times and turn it into 32k. Then let's include rent and two wages into the mix. How does a physical store live as a business? Are you paying yourself Danny? Like at all?

    Hey, thanks for this video. I found myself on a CnAG video talking on similar points around Celebrations release and it felt disgusting seeing all this LGS hate. I work very close to top of my department in retail, and while it's slightly different because our prices CAN'T really change that easily... I get all of this business talk directly handed to me as well.
    And it sucked seeing people not understanding any of it, and blindly putting hate on the LGS. Yeah, it sucked to not be able to pay msrp... But it's pretty much the only logical choice to go by market price. And nobody understood the intricacies of just having a storefront that _sells_ product. When you're out, nobody wants to come to you. Nobody wants to drop in, nobody comes to maybe buy a couple singles and then a box. You CAN'T let that to happen. And if you sell at a price everyone eats it up at... It'll happen.
