Signing David Peralta and Donovan Solano to minor league deals at the beginning of the season has been huge for the Padres depth. Martin Perez has also been great since coming over from the Pirates. Really just an impressive season for Preller
Include acquiring cease, king and arraez. Also making the controversial decision to bring up Merrill when literally everyone criticized him saying it was too soon and the kid wasn’t near ready. Preller is a great GM and deserves more credit than he’s been getting
Great video but I think that it is unfair to not bring up Matt Waldron and what he did for us the first half of the season. For nearly two months he was our best pitcher and he had some struggles and was sent down but without his starts, before Crase was added, we had won nearly all of his starts and his stuff was nasty. Let's not forget his contributions
i hope he can figure out his pitch mix / knuckleball usage. when its hot its unhittable. when its not its meatball city. loved watching him pitch the first half of the season. now that campy is gone i think we will have less errors with the wild pitch part of it too.
@@montetho I don't think there is much of a mix. When his knuckleball doesn't work, he is bad. His sweeper has okay movement. His fastball has no movement in the low 90s. He isn't a Rembrandt. I love the guy and we surely would have been chasing for a wild card spot instead of leading the wild card without him and I love him for it and appreciate the hell out of him. Been saying this for awhile now. They’re playing with that magic that propels teams through the month of October. Not to mention, they wanna honor Seidler much like the Braves of 21 with Hank. They’re pretty stacked in every department. This coming from a Dodger fan. You gotta call it like you see it.
One thing about the Padres I’ve noticed and have been saying for years which is also how the Astros have been so successful is the ability to cut down on striking out.
I still think they should have done what the Nationals should have done and what the Yankees haven't done yet: Give him whatever he wants and lock him up forever. I'm against that for the vast majority of players, but Soto is an exception. He's too good. But I agree it has worked out of course so far with the pitching they got for him
Luis Arraez has had such a crazy impact on them. Big strikeout lineup before he came over, now their whole line up just doesn’t strikeout, he’s definitely had an effect on the teams mindset
There have also been some huge unsung heroes within this season as well. Peralta, Solono, and Higashioka have all really stepped up when we had some players out. With arms, Estrada, Morejon, and Matsui sometimes struggled but have also come through when needed. Waldron is the biggest heartbreak because while he did start to struggle later on in the season, while Darvish and Musgrove were out, he really did his best to help out and shouldn’t be forgotten!
I'm a lifelong Padres fan and this team has been one of the best to watch. They are just a solid team. They just took 2 out of 3 from the Astros, maybe should have one all three but still it was awesome. I love this team and I'm so excited for their future.

The thing I find interesting is that on-base and slugging (the two things widely considered more important) have batting average factored into their equation in a lot of ways. So it matters more than people give it credit for. If nothing else, a high average tells you a player is consistently getting hits, which can never be a bad thing. An RBI single is a hell of a lot better than stranding a runner on 2nd or 3rd via a strikeout
I lived in San Diego for 3 years so I have a soft spot for the Padres. Definitely would not mind seeing them make a deep playoff run. They're due honestly.
This has been a great year. Fun for a lifelong Padres fan. Their offense isn’t a huge homerun threat team but they do have the best average in baseball. They also strikeout the least. Honestly, we were MEH through 101 games! We fell as far as 51-50 in mid July! Then, DAMN!! As of today (9/25)?? 40 and 16 in the last 56 games?! Yeah, THIS HAS BEEN FUN! I’ve suffered through a LOT of crap rooting for these guys since I moved here from New York in 1991 (we’ve only had 12 above-.500 “winning” seasons in 34 years and this’ll be only the 7th playoffs I get to root for them in)
No mention about Manny? He's probably having his best unnoticed season ever. Usualy you see Manny put the whole team on his back for a couple weeks every year. This year, after starting the season on the IL he's finishing with dome if his best hitting but unnoticed as he's made his cobtributions part if a team effort. Great year, Manny!
No question. Manny was definitely the team leader this year; and I appreciate how the rest of the guys let him lead, but had the confidence to do their own part.
Been a padres fan for 20 years.... this is the time! Cease no hitter. Numerous 8th and 9th inning come backs. 9-2 in extra inning games, jackson Merrill with ROTY campaign, the pitching depth, just to name a few things
I agree with you but to say he’s not close is too much. There should be two awards. Merrill has been the Padres much clutch hitter and maybe team MVP with Profar and Manny. But Skenes is also amazing. Remember Devin Williams won it over Jake for not pitching much in a shortened season
for most Padre fans, they'll point to a specific trade or acquisition, and say "THAT GUY" turned our fortunes around. I get it..but I disagree. To me, I look at a combination of 'new guys' that helped push us to where we are in the standings..Cease, IMMEDIATELY gave us credibility in thew ace dept, given the absence of our two best starters. Arraez, IMMEDIATELY gave us a LEGITIMATE, on base machine in leadoff...Profar, IMMEDIATELY answered the question "what is going to happen in LF?"...Donny Barrels & The Freight Train, IMMEDIATELY resolved the question marks on the bench..and Michael King, has become the walking definition of what a starter looks like in the 2nd spot of a rotation. Without those guys, our season would've been over in June, even with Machado & Merrill.
Ive watched between 2-4 games every week this season. Before the ASB i watched what I thought was a 87 win team go .500. Then we got past the ASB and it was like they shot out of a cannon. LFGSD
2:52 BRO, I saw that game & I remember that moment. when the catcher was intimidating Profar, at the plate. I was screaming profanities!! the Ump should have intervened, but Profar kept his cool. Hats off to Machado for covering his back. and then the next pitch!? COME ON, nothing, nothing to the pitcher????? I applaud Shildt arguing the pitch. 4:15 🤣 🤣 with the loss of Abrams, Soto, Clevinger, Tatis in the IL. I thought the team will nosedive. with the addition of Shildt and the trades done to the team what we have now, PHENOMENAL!! I want the Pads to go A L L T H E W A Y!!! + as the season ends, I also want them to have most shut out wins thus far 🎉. your video had a good break down of the PADS, thank you and good job 👍🏼
Great video, as a Padres fan, this has been a fun season, hopefully they can go on to win it all. It won't be easy, lots of great teams in their way, but they at least have a chance
The only reason Skenes is considered by some as a favorite for the ROY is hype and east coast bias. Kinda like how in college you get a ranking in the preseason even though they havent played a minute of a game, Skenes kinda got the same favoritism before he made his debut. Has he been great? absolutely. But whenever a pitcher has won the ROY it's because there were no every day players that stood out. i went back as far back as 1980 to look up the ROY winners, and I could only find 2 occasions where a pitcher won the award over an every day player who had stats that are similar to what Merrill has put up this year, BUT, those pitchers played full seasons. But this is one I could find that is comparable to the Skenes/Merrill debate: - In '98 Kerry Wood won NL ROY (13-6 3.40 ERA 233K in 166 IP) over future HOF Todd Helton (.315 BA 25 HR 97 RBI .911 OPS) and I believe Wood won because he led the Cubs to the playoffs for the first time since 1989, and his K/9 rate was 12.6! By comparison Skenes' K/9 is 11.3. Wood had 25 starts, Skenes 20. IP Wood 166.2, Skenes 126. Merrill will likely finish in the low-mid 90 RBI range if he keeps his current pace but if he heats up the remainder of the regular season he might get to 100 and with an outside shot at 30 HR. 30 HR 100 RBI are pretty much the magical numbers for having a great season and for a rookie are phenomenal. Then there's Merrill's "X factor": his clutch play. Those late inning HRs and game saving catches have pretty much contributed to the same number of wins that Skenes has (10). The dude stepped up when Machado wasnt hitting and Tatis was out of the lineup. And the most important of all: the Padres are going to the playoffs, in many ways thanks to Merrill's play. Oh, and Merrill has won Rookie of the month twice. Skenes: none. How can Skenes be considered a front runner when at no point has he been recognized as the best rookie during the season. Yeah, you can say he got the nod to start the ASG, but hey, Merrill also got selected.
I’m a Red’s fan. But I have to say it would be nice to see the Padres finally win it all. Like the Cubs did Like I said I’m a Reds fan but it would be nice to see the Padres win it all. The Padres & The Dbacks are both very scary and concern me as a Phillies fan. Only thing with San Diego is will Manny Machado show up. He's insanely hot & cold. Merrill & Profar have been a great story however.
If you actually think Skenes will win rookie of the year then you should bet on it because you’ll 7x your money. Pretty sure he’s +700 odds rn. Merrill is the favorite rn.
I’m happy for Mike king. Trade worked out for both teams. Padres could’ve had Clark Schmidt who isn’t as good as king yet but has more time on his contract & less injury history
I’m a dodger fan but the padres are so fun. Jackson Merrill is the ROY and it’s not even as close as people will say. They’re forsure the team no one wants to see in the playoffs.
I live in the area and these Padres fans, for all the hate the give LA fans, are insufferable. Talking trash to LA and how they don’t get far in the playoffs. Don’t get me wrong this is a great team and swept us 2x this year but stop acting like you are getting a ring in 2024. You are SD and you will always be a bridesmaid and never a bride. Don’t worry, you can print those “this is our year” t-shirts next year too.
Every time I hear Arraez compared to Tony Gwynn, I just feel the disrespect put on Gwynn’s name. Yeah Tony Gwynn, but negative defensive ability, less power, and poor base running. Call me a hater, but this is just a lazy take.
Nothing but respect from me to aj preller since he been the gm he was always trying to win don’t get me wrong he has been wrong but he goes all in and he trying to win
After ‘23 I went into this season saying if we finish above 500 I’d call it season success. Safe to say expectations were exceeded. It has been a storybook type tale for this team so far and no matter how it ends I’m happy I got to witness this team play. That being said… LFGSD.
Dangerous will mean absolutely nothing unless the team wins the World Series. This is the year to do it as this team can match up well with anyone. That said, if they fall short, I can see the team putting up a 2024 Most Dangerous banner on the Western Metal Supply building.
as a Padres fan, i disavow the comment about Preller. hes ALWAYS been good for the Padres. he makes bold moves and they always pay off. that man must be from the future because his moves are always good. also, Merrill will win ROTY.
You obviously don’t do your research then. He Traded away Max fried in 2014 and Trea Turner in 2015. Two HOF possible players. Also go look at the Mike Celvinger and Austin Nola trades and their outcomes. He’s definitely gotten better past 2 years but to say he’s “always been good” is such a lie

Back to back to back last night
I remember Profar from the LLWS it's funny how life works LFGSD!
Soto is a great trade, we got great talent and got rid of that deadweight. Soto was one of the worst batters in the padres roster, thank god he’s gone
Remember Devin Williams won it over Jake for not pitching much in a shortened season
jackson merrill is a really good baseball player
Here you go🏆 - for the MLBs Most Dangerous Team😂 congrats!
for most Padre fans, they'll point to a specific trade or acquisition, and say "THAT GUY" turned our fortunes around.
Very underrated team now... they fixed all their issues
Watched a game last night and the commentator called the team 'DANGEROUS' and no it wasn't the Padres. Nearly fell on the floor laughing my ass off!
And let's not forget East County Joe and Darvish both looking pretty damn good upon their return.
Really wonder how much better they’d be IF Xander Bogaerts performed as expected
Ive watched between 2-4 games every week this season. Before the ASB i watched what I thought was a 87 win team go .500. Then we got past the ASB and it was like they shot out of a cannon. LFGSD
how would you do the starting rotation in a playoff series? Most importantly, who do you think is the game 1 starter?
Definitely Cease, no? Good to have Darvish and Musgrove back, too
I'm going Cease, Musgrove, King, Darvish, then Perez.
If we play the Mets start Musgrove! He owns the Mets
Musgrove, Darvish, King, Cease and Perez are going to take business in octubre.😤
That whole starting lineup is scary!
4:15 🤣 🤣
with the loss of Abrams, Soto, Clevinger, Tatis in the IL.
When it works it works, this works. Dont mess with it. Dont ever trade the guy that keeps everyone laughing in the locker room.
Forgot to talk about Mike Schildt. He is one of the biggest reasons
But this is one I could find that is comparable to the Skenes/Merrill debate:
- In '98 Kerry Wood won NL ROY (13-6 3.40 ERA 233K in 166 IP) over future HOF Todd Helton (.315 BA 25 HR 97 RBI .911 OPS) and I believe Wood won because he led the Cubs to the playoffs for the first time since 1989, and his K/9 rate was 12.6!
You have not been keeping up if you think Paul Skenes is probably gonna win, The numbers shifted heavily to Merrill in august
Who’s here after the dodgers seires
There's something magical happening here in SD. And we can feel it. I hope this is the one.
Don’t you dare glaze over machado like that lol dudes been one of the best hitters in baseball for last 2 months. He’s a monster
I’m a Red’s fan. But I have to say it would be nice to see the Padres finally win it all. Like the Cubs did Like I said I’m a Reds fan but it would be nice to see the Padres win it all.
It would be nice seeing the Padres,. Champions. As the Cubs did . God bless the good ol Cubs and the those Brown and Yellow Padres ⚾️
Now we should appreciate Arraez? Far cry from not long ago's throwaway line that he shouldn't have even been an All Star.
We got el niño and the kid. Love it
I'm from SD. We riding hard after that triple play. LFG!
Good for Padre standards? Yes. Dangerous? No.
The 2024 Padres season could be made into a Hollywood movie
The Padres & The Dbacks are both very scary and concern me as a Phillies fan. Only thing with San Diego is will Manny Machado show up. He's insanely hot & cold. Merrill & Profar have been a great story however.
When I’m watching this manny hit a home run
Same
@@KINGEIi w padres win the pennant
Did somebody say back to back to back?
@@keithskoglund10 HECK YEAH
I'm pretty sure the Padres have flown under the radar since they first joined the league. They are thee most under-coverage team in the MLB.
Respect
Yeah Jackson Merril is great player. You are right it’s not even close. Paul Skenes will blow out Jackson Merril for ROY
Rare Dogers fan W
@@joseg73yeah. ok . sure.
@@joseg73I think you missed the point! He’s talking betting odds and Merrill is favored to win by a pretty good amount! Meaning Vegas is usually right
I was there when the benches cleared against the nats, That game was great
Go 1-1 series!
Don’t worry, you can print those “this is our year” t-shirts next year too.
great Video brother!!
Profar has been their MVP give him credit!!!
Their scoring in innings >7 are really good and I’ve literally lost count of how many walk offs they’ve gotten this year
Every time I hear Arraez compared to Tony Gwynn, I just feel the disrespect put on Gwynn’s name. Yeah Tony Gwynn, but negative defensive ability, less power, and poor base running. Call me a hater, but this is just a lazy take.
Wholeheartedly agree...
Nothing but respect from me to aj preller since he been the gm he was always trying to win don’t get me wrong he has been wrong but he goes all in and he trying to win
As an Astros fan who went to see a Padres game at Petco Park in July, I wish nothing but the best for the Friars.
Dang dude, you don’t even need to mention the return of Darvish and Musgrove.
I think this Padres team has great potential and is full of consistent hitters and reliable starters! Really liking this team and I'm a dodgers fan.
Dodgers are still the best team in MLB 😀
@@efraingarcia1301 Still has too many holes and too injury prone. Their style of play isn’t conductive to winning postseason games…
One question. Do you think Kim didn’t contribute much this year?
After ‘23 I went into this season saying if we finish above 500 I’d call it season success. Safe to say expectations were exceeded. It has been a storybook type tale for this team so far and no matter how it ends I’m happy I got to witness this team play.
That being said… LFGSD.
Dangerous will mean absolutely nothing unless the team wins the World Series. This is the year to do it as this team can match up well with anyone. That said, if they fall short, I can see the team putting up a 2024 Most Dangerous banner on the Western Metal Supply building.
barrels is roty hands down
as a Padres fan, i disavow the comment about Preller. hes ALWAYS been good for the Padres. he makes bold moves and they always pay off. that man must be from the future because his moves are always good. also, Merrill will win ROTY.
You obviously don’t do your research then. He Traded away Max fried in 2014 and Trea Turner in 2015. Two HOF possible players.
Also go look at the Mike Celvinger and Austin Nola trades and their outcomes.
He’s definitely gotten better past 2 years but to say he’s “always been good” is such a lie
always pay off huh how many world series have they won
@@PadresFan420 I've never been a Preller fan, but I think he made many great moves this season.
umm jackson plays everyday skiens plays once a week thats the deal breaker
I'm wondering if the White Sox owner is getting weekly beatdowns by the Mafia bookies.. For fucks sake. As a Padre fan.. Before we decided to pull up our big boy pants and spend, we were cheap and bad. We knew this but never in my life have I seen such a terrible season by a team and an organization who almost planned for it. Thanks for Dylan though.
It is strange watching the Padres play this well and being talked about in this way, but I'm here for it.
I’m a big mets fan. The Padres have a real good team and genuinely frighten me. I’d almost rather them play vs the brewers in the playoffs as opposed to the padres
