I have a 1999 vt 1100c2 ace I have had since it was new thank you this is very helpful. The fan quit and I think the thermostat needs replaced. In heavy traffic the fan would run a lot on a hot day. The red light never came on. Now the red light comes on and it has coolant running out of the reservoir after idling for ten minutes.

I had this happen a few years ago. It had to do with the coolant not. being "primed" enough, and there was a trick about pouring coolant in the filler neck near the handle bars in a certain way that fixed it. There's a video about it somewhere...

great video, I paid 5.99 for thermal switch on ebay and when i received it I tested it and it worked fine was a little worried due the thermal switch being so cheep! So now I'm off replacing the thermostat... again thank you for the video

Just had some cooling issues with a 1992 VT1100c I just got.
This video gives me a lot to work with. My reservoir doesn't have ANY coolant in it, but I never see any on the ground under the bike. And the fan stopped coming on after doing a battery swap, so I unplugged something, somewhere, I think that controls it.

Thermal switch control trolls ur fan to come on at a certain temperature my guess is between 180-220 i remember right most sensors is around that range even semi trucks Detroit? I might just run a switch to my fan until I replace my switch n thermostat but if I do that im flushing my coolant putting fresh in

2007 Honda shadow 1100 Sebree dealing with the same shit I just bought the bike ran great for 2 months I just did oil change gear box change was working on getting the special spark plug socket until my temperature light came on and keeps coming on n going off I checked the fan fuse(good) 12v checked the fan with my probe has 12v threw the ground to connect the circuit fan works not sure how to check the temperature sensor on the bottom of the radiator that tells the fan to come on but I haven’t herd my fan in a couple days normally I’ll hear it on after every trip when I stop, so I’m leaning towards changing out that thermal switch and the thermostat thoughts? Maybe something I haven’t thought of 😢it’s been a great bike love it just gotta get this fixed and cruise again 😎

There seems to be so much more room there then on my 1985 Shadow 1100. I'm not excited about trying to get at the thermostat.

How did you ground the thermal switch wire to the frame? Can anyone tell me in a detailed way how to do that exactly?
I just seen the connecting end that goes on the the switch and have no idea how to go about this. I'm trying to test my fan also.

lol, I have to laugh at my self. After all the troubleshooting replacing the thermostat and the thermal switch. I found out it was a blown fuse. My fan was never activating. So I replaced the fuse purchased a set of "10" fuses and keep them in my little storage box with my jumper. I should have checked the manual first =)

How did you get the fan to run ? I have mine hooked to a toggle switch when I bought the bike but I got a new thermal switch and want it back to normal

Where did you get your thermostat at? You mentioned a auto part store. What was the part number? I'm having a hard time getting one matched up. I know there online I just need one now.

I have the Clymer manual, and it doesn't say squat about the coolant reservoir. It's leaking.
