How To Make Hand-Drawn Wedding Invitations - Guaranteed Unique!

Over the years, I tried my hand at lots of things to make a living as an artist. Whatever I hose would have to be fun, creative, fulfilling and worthwhile financially. When I stumbled across the idea to make hand-drawn wedding invitations back in 2009, I knew I had found something that fit the bill.
I made really beautiful invitation suites for brides from 2009, when my youngest was just four years old, until 2014, two years after urban sketching took hold of my heart and soul and never let go. As I started teaching and writing, something had to give, and it was the invitation business. But I have very fond memories of the women I worked with.
I have a box of samples that has to go somewhere. I'm talking about the big stationery farm in the country, where cards can be displayed all day long. But before I do that, I thought I would share them with you. Maybe they will inspire you to make some gorgeous wedding invitations of your own, or perhaps you know someone who's in the planning stage...I hope they give them ideas.

Thank you Róisin I really enjoyed watching this video. I was feeling a bit down because I don’t know where I’m going with my art. During Covid I got stuck in with portraits in coloured pencils and I think I got quite good at it but I don’t’ feel its what I want to do with the rest of my life, I’m 73. I really want to try the urban sketching but every day I’m scared to start because I don’t want to be disappointed with myself or make a mess of my sketchbook. So thanks for showing us something you used to do and telling us you decided it wasn’t for you. I hope I find my subject before I die. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and I’ve enjoyed them very much. I love how you talk about your work.
@@MrsMandM27 don’t worry. I will think of you when I’m planning my themes because I know only too well how it feels not to know where I’m going. The thing is…there are NO rules which makes it hard in some ways! Try to think what you’d like to draw, even if it’s the pattern on a cute plate. Subject doesn’t matter!

My husband and I made our own handpainted wedding invitations decades ago. We didn't have a lot of money, and we were artsy so... I think people appreciated the unconventional invites-- and very casual wedding. 😄

These are wonderful works of art, Roisin, and you must not 'move them on to the great stationery farm in the sky'! They should all be framed and kept somewhere so that everyone can see them! Oh, these are wonderful and so personal! Two years ago my daughter and son in law asked me to do the artwork for their wedding invitation and make the reception book in the same style with a watercolor cover. Mainly florals and leaves in their wedding theme colors. Not as personal as yours but I felt really honored and it was such a joy to do!

These are amazing Róisín! Thanks for sharing. We got married in Italy and I made the invites, maps, etc, which I really enjoyed. I wasn’t really doing anything else creative at the time and it never crossed my mind that someone else might pay for the service….so I stuck to my office job! I’m always impressed when people have these ideas and then do something with it. Even if it isn’t for you now, it’s a lovely chapter to look back on 😊 (p.s. don’t throw them away!!)
