    Why do most Brits hate French cars😂. I owe a 2011 C4 Picasso 1,6THP Automatic Tendance. Drives absolutely great. Has 198.000 miles on it .yes she lives to drink alot, but sure worth the 4000 euros i paid for her

    The UK is hilarious to me. The cars you get the previous owner sells because of a light on the dash, or some scuffs on the door and they're like "oh bollocks its knackered, sell it for 5 quid" lol meanwhile here in the US people buy cars with well over 200k miles on them COMPLETELY trashed, I mean crushed on one or both ends, bits falling off, NO paint left, every service light on and they drive these things until they literally will not drive another inch. The MOT where I live is "oh it still kinda starts...pass". Such a stark difference in safety standards

    I've had a grand version of that car for a few years and it's been ultra reliable. It's always had a slight knock in the suspension but has never become bad enough to investigate. Transmission is automated manual gearbox, based on the six speed synchro found in a lot of manual PSA cars. Going from first gear to second just requires you to briefly back of the accelerator or as you did, use the paddle shifter. I was intrigued to see the left hand glovebox lid turned inside out. We have plenty of sun here in Australia but mine hasn't curled up yet!

    my dad's got a grand picasso version of these with the same 1.6 hdi and the egs auto. does change gear quite slowly but thats just how they are. we had a similar suspension knock and it was something in front suspension but wasnt an expensive fix i dont think. yours seems to be a top spec exclusive as well so a few little extras like the auto climate controls and scented air freshener!

      Got a 2012 C4GP,tell ya dad might be worth using the paddle shifters to change up from 1st into 2nd, find its much smoother and then sticking it into auto as auto changes at low speeds on mine are a dogs dinner compared to manual paddle shift changes

      Just so you are aware, thats the 2.0 hdi and not the 1.6 hdi. If you put the gearbox into manual mode and rev it out to 4000rpm and change gear with the paddles it changes gear quite fast. I have a C4 GP 1.6 and and two C4 picasso 5 seaters, one with 1.6 hdi and the other with the 2.0 hdi.

    I watch a number of the you tube car sites and always amazed at the state some people keep their cars in. It's not expensive to spend £2 on the vacuums at car wash sites and then the cheapest drive through ones are £2.50 . It's not a valet but at least it shows a bit of care

    The steering will normally go stiffer if it's electrical assisted as the voltage drops

    I really rate Citroen Picasso's, they don't deserve the hate they get.
    Although the automatic ones of that shape (semi automatic actually, they're just a robotic manual) are absolutely terrible on all accounts. Horrible and uncooperative to drive.
    I've got an old Xsara Picasso myself as my big useful runner and it's comfortable, reliable, cheap to fix and maintain. It's a 1.6 petrol so a bit gutless and thirsty but other than that I'd say infinitely better than a Zafira or whatever.
    And manufacturers just don't make those sort of MPVs any more

    You were driving a single clutch robot, it's normal they change a little rougher than turbine boxes.
    Thouse cars are really good as long you avoid the 1.6 thp the bmw/psa. I have seen almost 600.000 km woth the 2.0 hdi, also the 1.6 hdi works well if you look after certain issues.
    The clutch/flywheel needs replacement after 200.000 km onwards. Electrics work well as long as you keep the fuseboxes dry. Sometimes behind the battery you might find some electric wires corroded.

    the Picasso is not an auto box, its manual with a clutch with the gears and clutch controlled [ slowly ] by a little "robot" the control is self learning and needs reset occasionally to get clean changes back, these are just as economical as the the purely manual version, well worth £500 👍 it would be handy if there is a fault code stored

    James if I were you I’d trade the Citroen C4 Picasso out unless there’s paperwork in its history for gearbox replacement. The EGC auto gearbox is a nightmare on these for failing and it’s a £2k-£2.5k job to replace the electronics in the gearbox. It’s an automated manual rather than a proper torque converter auto box. Values are fairly low on these as well so not worth taking the chance on unless it’s already had the work done previously.

    I had one of these years ago. The automated manual box is not great, I drove it in manual mode most of the time. Steep hills really confused it in auto mode, it would change up rather than down gears half way up the hill, then the engine would labour and then it would go back down a gear with a big pause inbetween. They're all ponderous. the one I had was ex-mobility with only 20k on it.

  • @AndysEastCoastAdventures
    @AndysEastCoastAdventures 2 роки тому

    These are canbus wired and faults that come up on the dash could be literally anything even if not connected to what has actually failed. The egr valve failing can throw up faults that are nothing to do with the engine for example. I have the 2.0hdi grand version. NSF abs sensor failed and it came up with many faults on dash including handbrake, gearbox plus it would also make the engine switch off. Crankshaft sensor did the same when it failed with the engine switching off at random. They are great when running well but can be very problematic. Erratic electrical faults are also caused by the wiring loom being corroded behind the battery too.

    Can't understand why people prefer SUV's to MPV's these days. I would get Moores to give it a once over (might be a cheap fix) and your mobile valeter to give it a clean before you move it on through the trade. If retailing I'd take the towbar off.

    "Economy Mode Active" that quick is often a sign of a sagging battery :)
    That's a Citroen power-saver mode that shuts down unneeded electrics when the battery voltage drops (and the engine isn't running) to hopefully have enough left to restart.
    At that age, it's probably pending a new battery - cold mornings will be the giveaway.

    • @sammytheseal2307
      @sammytheseal2307 2 роки тому +1

      No it's not necessarily a sign of needing a new battery, it just means you've left the ignition on for too long and the BSI has detected a current drain that could flatten the battery so it shuts the offending item down
