It’s great that despite the success of the channel you still remember what it’s like starting out and help others with the benefit of your experience. So generous. I applaud you, sir 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is how I started and stuck with my trusty smartphone ever since. You can definitely make films, documentaries ect with phone cameras. Great video!
So many UA-camrs post these sorts of videos overloaded with commentary of their boring day, followed by showing off their advanced skills. This was the opposite; concise, explanation, demonstration. Another interesting insight would be how to plan videos, such as structure, story progression, day/weather, contingencies. What parts of your videos have you found people typically skip in the viewer analytics, and what parts are often rewatched?
Modern Filmmaker is a very big and broad word and through my experinece I certainly found out that sometimes you have to be a Writer/Driector , DP/Camera operator, Sound Eng, Editor/Colorist, all in one. Great tips Peter :) Thank You !
I've been shooing with my smartphone for forever.. just moved to using the Sony a5000 this year and just getting into manually tweaking all the different settings.. this has been a great video for me and super fun too.. still vlog on my smartphone so it's helped me both ways.. thanks so much for this video Peter ☺️👊
Thank you for making this video, it has come full circle now, you made something that you made when I discovered your channel and now technology is even better, but the principles are the same. Great video and great work. I can see all the hard work you have put in in this video. Thank you
Mate your so right it’s overwhelming where to start but just start find great creators like you and absorb the tips and tricks on offer excellent vid mate goodonya cheers
Peter, as usual very good video, I could say that your channel is probably the one of my favorite channels. I really like how you present topics, of course I'm interested in video editing and still not decided, one day I'm fully with fcpx and another with davinci resolve :) The main problem with "us" beginners is (in my case)is that I'm not satisfied with how I edited video materials, whenever I see your editing or Matti's, or Peter Mckinnon's....etc....I immediately delete my editing :D
I have the same problem, but I always try to remember myself that probably they thought the same thing when they were starting in this field and the only way for me to get better is editing and editing (and studying ofc) and then one day I will feel good about my editing. Everyone has a beginning. I dont know, this helps me, maybe can help u too.
I've been filming making for just about 3 years, knowing everything you talked about but still found it a great informative video .. thanks and keep them coming
I lost my motivation nowadays shooting and mostly editing. Feels like Im stuck or feel burnt out. I will going back to these basics again and hopefully will be able get some good ones. Thanks for your advice
thanks you very much for explaning everything even if its already know its better to explain people like this in street and like showing the screen insted of explain it on studio and people will strugle and such
Awesome video bro! Watching in headphones with the talking head every time you touch the desk I thought someone was tapping on my door! Is the mic attached to the desk or just really strong? Love it brother! All my videos are shot on my iPhone on my channel at the moment
@@PeterLindgren1 Yes, but you incorrectly titled this filmmaking -- that's poor filmmaking right there. The content was good, but poorly titled to the point of being misleading.
Peter - I have been having some challenges grading or making the iPhone hdr footage look fine even after choosing the right colourspace etc . Having said that wish you could make a video on that along with how to mix non iPhone or a DSLR footage in between iPhone hdr footage . Thanks for this very simple yet effective process video above
Great information there Peter .. well done 👍 I shoot all my videos for my channel on the iPhone 13 Pro Max as I’m only starting out. Learn a lot there. Hope all is well
I often still today grab my iPhone and mix it into a video. I don’t always have my eosr with me so when I’m feeling creative and don’t have it my cell phone will do just fine
Hello again ! ;D That's the right video where I can ask you my question :D You got me inspired few weeks ago, since then I'm looking to buy my first camera. You know the B-roll that you did back in the days, at the bar or at the poker table. Do you think that with the Sony ZV-E10 + the right lens I would be able to shoot something like this ? Or I need to go for a better camera ?
Great vlog Peter, basics are great. Well illustrated. Thanks. Recently watched the USA vlogger “wonderhussey” and she uses her phone exclusively and iMovie, of all things. Tried to put a video together but continuity and lighting seem wrong. Better try again, might use the iPhone.
Peter, I like your video content very much. I hope it can be automatically translated with Chinese subtitles. It will be more perfect. There will be more content related to the teaching of mobile phone photography. Thank you for coming from Miyun District, Beijing, China. Greetings and I hope you will develop in the video field. I wish you a bright future. God gives you better development and light 8:47
Hej Peter!
Not necessarily. You can shoot RAW video now on some Android phones, using the Motion Cam app (though the file sizes are HUGE), and you can also use great apps like Mcpro24fps or Filmic Pro, as well as dial down some of the digital sharpness in post production when editing. Also, for Android users, the Super 16 app is pretty advanced, and one can shoot in 720p and dial down the sharpness and use settings to replicate a look that is very similar to 8mm or 16mm film. 👍🏾
I highly recommend the early videos of Patrick Levar on UA-cam, which show how easily one can create a filmic look with a smartphone, and also the UA-camr named Zeek, who mostly shoots with a Canon EOS M, which is a ten year old camera that is now very cheap to buy, but which can shoot high-quality RAW video when using a firmware hack called Magic Lantern. 👍🏾
Such a great example of “SHOW, don’t tell” video 👏🏼 great stuff as ever Peter 👊🏼

This was not about filmmaking. It was about cinematography. It didn't cover storytelling, which is at the heart of good filmmaking.
A good story needs to be captured correctly in order for it to make sense.

How to start filmmaking as a beginner: BUY A CAMERA!
