Dimir scam is the direction I’m heading day one. I’ve been a fan in legacy of dimir shadow and scam decks for years. Very nice video by the way. Subbed
I’m going to try it! Being able to pitch it to grief and subtlety, sac to flare of denial and get reanimation targets in the yard should be good enough.
Thanks a lot, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed the video! You might be correct about the scam vs rhinos match up. I'm not really an expert in that format. I can see how you're actually in an okay spot when you can always just topdeck a single card that more or less wins you the game. That said, I still think that scam is gonna have a favorable match up against omnitell, as that deck typically needs multiple spells in their hand to actually do something with Omniscience.
Damn, your editing is smooth. Anyway, I think you're pretty solid with your predictions, though I think Domain Zoo and Death's Shadow deserved a mention for their potential matchups (as the 2nd and 3rd most popular decks behind Show and Tell)
Thanks a lot, appreciate it! I agree, although it was more of an effort to keep the video on topic and easy to watch. The video could also easily have been 3x as long. But you're right both Domain Zoo and DS are for sure relevant players in the metagame.
I'm planning on adapting my dimir control deck and playing a much ruder game, but psychic frog is certainly interesting. If Persist succeeds in replacing animate dead I'll try him out in UB Reanimator
I’m excited to see what that cascade energy Raptor does in the format. Thst being 2 cards everytime might make it such a great topdeck that it can stabilize you after getting scammed. I can see that really working well in a burn deck.
Good point there. That card actually seems really good in a scam landscape. Maybe that's just an argument for rakdos scam actually being the go to version, since it's really good in scam mirrors. Also really goos in Lurrus decks.
Timeless is quite different from both Modern and Legacy because in timeless we have good sources of card advantage. We don’t really know how cards like treasure cruise impact the scam meta, but we know what beanstalk does and we can draw parallels. With access to treasure cruise Darcy decks could possibly mimic the amount of card advantage generated by beans, and their interaction is very relevant. What scares me the most is scam decks with Necro in them. Solitude, Necro and Grief, seems very good 😅
True, it might be the case that access to potent card advantage cards like Treasure Cruise could out a damper on scam decks. Although, like I mentioned, it's the top deck in Legacy at the moment, which is a format with a lot of degenerate stuff going around.
@@ceaselessmtg I’ve been playing now. I was wrong. Broken Card Advantange doesn’t change much, because you just put it into your scam decks too. I have 38-5 from combined from two lists. One is UB Scam powered by Treasure cruise and flare of denial. The other deck is BW scam powered by Necro
grief evoke almost pays for flare of malice sac cost. almost feels like flares were designed to work with some of the elementals. great timeless content. i love modern and timeless.
I think there’s real room for 4 Flare of Denial in a UB scam deck with both tamiyo and psychic frog as powerful cheap blue creatures, as well as potentially sneaky snacker as a creature that sacs to both flares, pitches to grief and subtlety, discards to psychic frog cleanly, and is easily recursive in the late game in multiples to close out. (its recursive ability is, at minimum, “cast brainstorm to reanimate every snacker”)
That sounds like an interesting shell for sure. Hadn't considered Tamiyo in a Scam shell, but you raise a lot of good points. Snacker actually looks really appealing as well, now that you mention it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙏
This does legit scare me. I don’t mind playing against RB decks as I’ve learned to be content that nearly every match is a black deck. But the fact they didn’t bring a ton of support to existsing decks besides RB and UB this scares me. I am PRAYING E-tron can go over the top because ramp decks tend to be great against midrange and the if E-tron is good then that means tempo control will be good and then if those archetypes are all at the top then this opens the doors for brews. Scam decks prey on brews and control. We need another timeless anthology asap. Too late for hammertime since it barely sees play in modern as it is. We need the better cascade spells and scion if draco. We overall need a ton of cards to offset the insane power upgrade Black midrange decks just got. They were already omnipresent and now it’s gona get worse.
You bring some good points. Which cards would you like to see in the first Timeless Anthology to solve these problems? I've been thinking a lot about what cards I would like to see added to the format. Would you be interested in a video where I break down my list?
@@ceaselessmtg there’s a ton of cards. Shardless agent violent outburst. Bounce lands amulet and valakut. Actual tron lands. Urza saga. Price of progress would be good and it would bring burn back but I can understand if that’s too powerful. Pyroblast. Blue elemental blast. They should print a black elemental blast lol. The initiative cards would be good but I’m not sure I want to see the mox’s just yet. There’s a bunch more that can’t think of right now but basically looking to see other archetypes get support. I do love that you pointed out we will have kore support for omnath beans, which will be another archetype that is strong against scam. I would absolutely be interested in you making a in-depth video about what should come to timeless anthology. I believe wizards actively looks for videos like that for insight into what the community. Despite what many may believe Wizards has a track record of listening to the community. Their just slow to move lol
Thanks man, appreciate it. It took about 4-5 work days between researching, script writing, recording, editing, making thumbnail etc. So I'm glad you liked it 👌
My prediction: We're going to see some 5c shitpile with reanimate/show & tell combo/beanstalk all in one, that will be the best deck of the format. On a side note merfolk is gonna become pretty decent now, it's the only deck that can reliably use flare of denial, to become great it still lacks aether vial and tide shaper though.
Is anyone else going to be jamming Scam out of spite? I for one will be playing the deck like crazy (or a Orzhov version) in the hope that it overwhelms the meta and grief/fury gets restricted by necessity. Is this a good idea or should i just main deck Leyline of sanctity? What are your thoughts?
Just join the dark side to push the ban sounds like a plan 😅 I'm still curious about how much of an actual ban-worthy problem it will be, as we're getting a lot of interesting stuff added to the format with MH3, that could potentially thrive in a scam meta (I have a video comming up about a shell I think could have a favorable scam match up, and still be reasonable against the rest of the field. Regardless of whether or not we see early bans, we're definitely gonna see a lot of scam! 🙂
Should add it was called scam specifically because the original deck used undying evil and ephemerate so you could double dip the ETB and scam the evoke clause.
I'm not sure we're quite at that point, the format has only existed for about 6 months, and we've seen a lot of really powerful stuff added to the format via bonus sheets and so on. There are still a lot of things I'd like to wotc to do in order to support the format, such as releasing anthologies and hosting competitive events etc.
nah timeless exists partially BECAUSE of mh3. the format has barely started, and mh3 will arguably be its real launch now that the spectre of “we have no idea what mh3 will bring” doesn’t have to loom over the format and prevent any balance changes.
Haha I kind of agree. Although I do hope they release an anthology to introduce some of the needed tools to balance a format with evoke elementals, such as Force of Will for example.
Great editing and really nice overview. This channel deserves more love, for sure!

Just found this channel and love to see more amazing timeless contents. One small thing is that scam was 50/50 vs rhinos before fury ban iirc.

Yes it is! Actually it's the deck I play the most atm 🙂

Rakdos scam wasn't just good because fury cleared the board. It was good because it killed every threat with and was often a 2 turn clock.
True. And like I said, I might be wrong about rakdos. I totally grant that.
what is scam? tldw
A strategy build around disrupting your opponents hand before they get a chance to play game. Grief + Reanimate is the core of the deck.
