Wow this is the first video that I've seen that actually makes sense.

Having an instructor that yelled at you during driving classes could cause anxiety even after 11 years (10 years of not driving and 1 year of driving)? Thank you for the video and for a response 😎

Yes, teachers are very often the cause of many problems. When you go back and find the cause of the problem it often goes back to school and something a teacher a said. One comment made that the teacher soon forgets can stay with someone all their life and shape their whole future.

@@1stdrive thanks for the confirmation. I was also feeling that might be cause. The problem is it is very hard to bypass it. If I am alone in the car, I am ok (especially if I drive every day). But once anyone joins in the car, anxiety and stress start to kick in. Not the best feeling in the world...

Since then ive had fear of roundabouts even though it was 13 years ago. i haven’t been able to pass! But this video helped me go back in time and find out what the problem was and thats what it was. Well i have my test in a few days and my now instructor worked on my fear of roundabouts although its still there but bit better.thankyou for this video.

Just had my first driving lesson, and the instructor took me out driving through busy intersections at the end of the workday in partial darkness when I was instead hoping to first build up some muscle memory with the clutch, shifting, etc.
Before taking the lesson, I was looking forward to learning, how I'm feeling really shaky and anxious, even two hours after the lesson, even though he didn't scream or wasn't rude, he simply put me in situations I had no idea how to react in and wanted me to do well, it honestly felt like some form of punishment.

I expect people to always break rules and to be as dangerous as possible. I expect people to be complete jerks and I also don't trust myself entirely behind the wheel, (i'm new and learning to drive rightnow.) I think that's why I get really anxious when around lots of people on the road.
Yesterday, I made a mistake. On the freeway, I slightly overshot my left turn, so I stopped and was also anxious about an oncoming car in the opposite lane. Then, I thought the person behind me was going to pass me because he looked like he was. I froze abit and then eventually left.
Thank God, there was no incident, no crashes, nothing.
But still, that little event makes me upset.

Iv been exposed to cars and trucks getting crashes and accident from watching videos. I havent been in an accident. Everytime i think of driving my mind tells me its dangerous because there might be a car crash. Therefore causing fear and anxiety and iv been a fearless driver before. The fear comes from people i know who died from car crashes so i fear it happening to me. How do i help myself?

i am a new driver. i believe driving is stressful for me because of lack of solo practice, which has been largely out of my control. the only car i have is a mustang but its old and its a manual. im still learning to drive it, and its the only car ive been able to drive in the past 6 months. when im away at school, i dont need or have a car because school is within walking distance. i dont know what would make me feel confident driving, aside from the practice which ive been unable to get.

I wish you were able to come to America, I'm struggling horribly with driving anxiety and paranoia in general in life. I had my first attack in a car, and moving all of the time while having a untreated Bipolar parent and mentally violent brother, I felt I had no control over myself or my life. I've felt trapped and like I was about to die during panic attacks. For some reason, even as a child, I hated going on bridges, bypasses, and tunnels. I was told it was Agoraphobia and It's slowly eating at my life psychologically. I've no idea what to do but would do anything to get past this. In many ways I still feel caged in and stuck to the abusive and unhealthy environment I grew up in. I suspect that is where my issues come from.

My arms didn't move at all. I couldn't even imagine the balloon or the bucket. I don't understand how this could work when we know the balloon and bucket aren't real?

Your conscious mind knows it's not real but your subconscious doesn't. That's why people have fears and phobias, their subconscious is seeing danger they know consciously isn't there. Imagination is the language of the subconscious so you've already explained why it didn't work for you - it won't until you imagine and not know.

Great information, getting rid of the fear program from the subconscious will relieve the anxiety.

    Hi,
Had a driving problem now for about 10 years which to be honest haunts me to say the least. i still drive but most of the time i am drove most places by my wife and friends which depresses me. I can drive a race car round a track with a instructor with no fear, but suffer with anxiety on most drives so dont drive much.
The problem started when i fell a sleep at the wheel crossing a bridge and when i woke up i had a full scale panic attack.
I drove the next day over the same bridge to work without a problem, but i feel i always remembered the bad feelings i had experinced, which to this day have caused me serve depression at times and affected my ability to go were i want when i want.
Any help would be great if you truly think you can, as spent alot of money with various people which i feel was a waste of time.
    Cheers
    Peter.

You can't change the past but you can change the future. You have to decide whether you want your life ruined by reliving an event from the past or whether you want to move on and enjoy your life. You have to understand that all therapy of any kind ever does is give you the option to think differently. There's no magic, no erasing memories, no special power that will change your life. It's all about how you perceive things and all you have to do is change that perception.
