      @@Dave-bu6bc There's nothing wrong with voting. It's the political parties and Representative Democracy itself, which is where the problem lies. If we could all vote as individuals on all final says in Westminster and change national policy through various referendums throughout the year then we would change things. But we need a single issue party that would allow that to happen and dissolve as soon as it's job was done. Until a party comes along that can make that happen then I will not be voting for one Neo-Liberal establishment party to replace another.

    • @JonathanCheeseman
      @JonathanCheeseman 3 роки тому

      @@markwinter54 As I said, the '19 turnout was "slightly" higher than average - just 1 or 2%. Maybe Brexit accounted for that 1 or 2% but it remains only 1 or 2%.
      Compulsory voting is an authoritarian measure I would not support. Freedom means being free to NOT do things, as well as TO do things. For me, forcing people to vote just so you don't have to listen to them moaning is not reason enough to compel people to vote. Besides, if a person votes for party 'X' and they get a party 'X' government, does that mean they have to accept 9without moaning) everything that government does? And if they voted party 'Y' they're still not allowed to moan?

      The people are programmed to look at Marxism, but the real issue are the Trotskyites. Trotsky and his entourage had safe travel to Switzerland, where they 'collected', considerable financial support, and continued safely on to Russia, by way of Finland. Alex Salmond is a Trotskyite, and Nicola Sturgeon was his protege.
      I can't for the life of me recall if Corbyn is a Trotskyite. The names escape me right now, but in the USA a few years back, there were three or four Republicans, who were known to be Trotskyites.

    I think a lot of tactical voting went on in North Shropshire. Former Tory voters decided that the best chance of damaging Boris was to vote for the party most likely to beat the Conservatives. Political commentators are saying that it's clear Tory voters didn't stay at home yesterday, they actively went out and voted LibDem. Which is very mixed news for Tory MPs, because what it shows yet again is that old 'loyalties' can no longer be taken for granted. In my opinion this result shows voters responding to an out-of-touch and disdainful political class.

    I've already written to my MP and told him that as a lifelong Tory voter he's lost my vote as long as Boris is running the show and the policies that I voted for are not implemented, particularly secure borders, effective policing and sensible environmental polices. His response was that he understood my frustration and that there are conversations being had behind closed doors about the direction of the party but that by not retaining him as my local MP then it's likely that the Lib Dems would win the seat. I think as a country we need a completely new political approach. None of the major parties genuinely represent ordinary people anymore. They serve the wealthy, those on benefits and illegal immigrants. I'd love to see a complete revolution of the political system but I just don't hink enough people have either sufficient interest in politics or the courage of their convictions to vote outside of the main 3 parties. I watched some clips of Trigger Happy TV the other day, all filmed in London in the early 2000's. The change in our capital city since then is shocking and if you project that forward another 20 years I absolutely dread to think what state this country will be by then with the current political elite still running the show.
