Meet the conservatives the Left fear the most

- This week, the best and brightest of the British Right gathered in London for the National Conservatism conference.
Leading up to NatCon there was much speculation from the Left that it would be an opportunity for the far-Right to spout bigoted hate.
I went to NatCon to find out the truth in a new documentary for The Telegraph.
NatCon's attendees were young, articulate and bright; I did not pick up on a whiff of extremism.
Instead, there was much anger with the Tory Party for its failure to enact conservative policies.
For example, their broken promises on immigration and leftward drift on social issues were two major contentions for the conference goers.
Whilst there is much noise about how the Conservatives are failing to engage young people who are increasingly Left-wing, they have also alienated those with more traditional views.
By becoming a socially-liberal party under David Cameron, the Tories have simply been outflanked by Labour on social issues whilst angering their core voters.
This week, Matt Hancock warned the Tories against pursuing a socially conservative agenda, claiming his former party would cease to be an electoral force if they did so.
If the Conservatives decide to merely become a replica of their opponents, then what is the point in them?
This goes to explain why Sunak's party is so far behind in the polls; if you abandon your core principles and betray your electorate, do not expect them to vote for you.
Speakers at NatCon were not afraid to touch on controversial issues, including demography, defending our history, immigration, and the degradation of our culture.
On all of these issues the Conservative Party have for far too long been on the wrong side.

Too many elite privileged/titled twits
They are against preserving the historical character of the UK's towns and cities. Conservative councillors lobby to keep historic centres as carparks. Tacky, tasteless and not conservative
LOL
Why would it want to?
The main issue facing the country is that since 1997, the population has grown by 20% without planning. The pressure applied to housing, healthcare and education is ridiculous.
The only thing I disagree with is the "without planning" part. It's been done entirely on purpose.
We have already lost. We should buy roubles, weapons and prepare for 200 years of corruption and banditry. Retreat to the shadows and organise from there
The whole world has grown by 20% since then, the UK can't stop the world and get off. We need an increasing population to have economic growth and increasing living standards.
I think the main issue facing the country is the political class. And I make no distinction between the parties.
100% right there
Rees Mogg is everything that's wrong with British politics. A political fossil that waffles without saying anything. This is the 21st. century. The great ceremonial history is our heritage but should be exempted from politics. Britain needs politicians with ideas and the will to endorse them. A good idea is a good idea , regardless which side of the house it originates from. If it helps Britain then it should be adopted. After all politicians are supposed to be in power to make policies that, primarily, help the country not necessarily party politics.
Agree. I had to fast forward the interview with JRM. Any renewal with him involved will fail.
Yes agree he’s a stupid fossil
I used to quite admire him but now I find him increasingly irritating - the answers he gave in the interview were - frankly - pathetic.
Rishi and Kier are everything wrong with UK politics. Out of touch and spineless on the major issues of crime, immigration and economic growth.
He’s a fraud, if TORIES weren’t all so bloody thick he’d never have got past them. They love a spiv in a suit with with ridiculously affected speech. They’re ALL frauds…
Sorry ,Jacob, How is the legislature itself irrevocably tied by law? If the law doesn't allow the UK to reduce immigration and the Conservatives have a pledge to reduce it, the legislature (the conservatives) should be acting to repeal or amend these laws to allow them to fulfill their mandate. Where is this action apparent?
The laws against many of the things carried out during the lockdowns was crystal clear, yet they moved heaven and earth to either change them or simply ignore them. That puts it all in perspective when they say that over a decade of being in power wasn't enough time to change the laws or do anything about multiculturalism.

These issues they talk about I literally couldnt care less about, I dont care about social issues like abortion or trans or whatever. I work hard with loads of overtime and I still cant progress! Identity doesnt mean anything to me because I cant afford my rent.
Its American influence. Identity madness comes with absolute individualism. Left, right, up, down. They're all just identities to these people. There isn't even one rational thought process between them.
since right now that the society is more liberalized and we are facing the issues / problems, if the morals of the society will reset back to its proper state, (no abortion, no more gender identity or racialization of everything in the society.. etc) maybe it will put the society in back in order.

@@VARUNSINGH-ri2he??
A working conservatism is one that maintain the dynamics in a society that it continues to work in a more or less fashion without painful disruption to the stakeholders, while allowing for continuous trials and errors that do not have immediate systemic impacts, negative or positive, to address public issues. Ideally, there is the mechanism for curbing rent seeking, such that those have more does not continue to have more just because the had more.
Conservatism with the above interpretation should focus on uniting and incremental improvement, and not on splitting and disruption.
Who focus on splitting citizens into groups? Instill hatred and anger? Promote civil war? Extremists, fundamentalists, authoritarian regimes, revolutionaries, opportunists do, regardless how they label themselves and which umbrella they are under... real conservatism won't do these.
Conservatism has been sabotaged deliberately
"Who focus on splitting citizens into groups? Instill hatred and anger? Promote civil war?" Right wing think tanks out of Tufton street (at least in the UK). The modern "splitting citizens into groups" strategy they've adopted is a direct copy of Vladislav Surkov's when he was Vladimir Putin political strategist. Worked reasonably well in the US, hasn't done as well over here.
Although the Tories acting like this really isn't new thing though, Thatcher's rhetoric was pretty extreme and divisive to be honest. It just gets significantly worse when they are threatened. It's a move a desperation, all the while they are screaming at top volume that they are the "silent majority". It's beyond parody, especially in the US, the reality is that new technology and the Tories inability to adapt will leave them left behind and split until they do.
So Rees Smugg is blaming the failures of the last 13 years on Labour. Genius.
"Im not allowed to talk about immigration cause im white" and yet she wishes that the Conservative party would become more conservative on social issues (which means we dont have to be afraid we will get shut down or cancelled from speaking facts)?
I think sshe was being sarcastic. I hope
“The best and brightest of the British Right gathered in London…”. In a telephone kiosk.

I think I'm getting a hard Brexit guys.
A common thread through the Conservative Party ‘spineless’!!!
Generally conservatism in the restrictive social sense many see it is often not entirely consistent with maximising profits and productivity in a market, because some consumers and taxpayers make other choices for stability or to limit competitors profitability. Market signals also can reflect other choices. Maximising a personal utility purchase basket might involve all sort of choices not motivated by the cost or the legality. Much of the public undoubtedly seeks pleasure and bliss
I'd be interested to hear examples of what Kevin Roberts referred to as "the degradation of the free market".
I would hazard a guess at the largess during covid, the near zero interest rates & QE that have skewed the financial markets and made banks in the US & Europe fail at even a historically small interest rate rise.

I'm interested in hearing the definition of 'family values' from the men who speak of it.

Yeah the Tories are finished. The party is over, and now it's time to clear up the mess.
One problem that fundamentally prevents coherent action is terminology. "Left/right" and "conservative" have been meaningless for at least a decade. Terms like "Civilised" and "fair" aren't used but are central to the problems that the country faces (which are all stemming from corruption and uncivility)
"the best and brrightest of the British Right"....... really? one has to wonder if the commentator knows his right from his left.....
While the Labour Party is always stretched between left of centre Social Democrats and Socialists while, the Conservative Party effectively threw out its right of centre Social Democrats to ensure the more lassaiz fair wing of free marketeer could complete its Brexit project (even though there has never been a strategy or a plan to make it work - let alone deliver benefits or recognisable success! ).
It's really unclear what the Nat C ideas can do to rebuild any consensus and maybe runs the danger of following the Republicans down the anti-woke rabbit hole.
The “anti-woke rabbit hole” means standing up for women as a material reality and is likely to win DeSantis the American Presidency as he is one of the few willing to stand up for the legal definition of women and women’s right to safety, privacy and dignity. While the left is burning down the support women have given them for decades.
The main issue facing the country is that since 2010 is we are now seeing the effects of 13 years of austerity on all our services . Cuts to council budgets has caused lack of investment in housing , Cut to schools , Cuts to NHS, fire service, police serve , Private ownership of GP surgeries and resulted in lack of appointments and clinicians rather than GPs trying to do a job they are not qualified to do. Where is all money gone from this cuts . ?

The USSR was commonly called a "workers' paradise", but it was the opposite of that. I know that because I grew up in that hell. Watching the first half of the video I was thinking NatCon has a strong whiff of Americanism and was unfortunately proved right watching the whole video. As an US resident I can share that American Conservatism's tenets are: gun rights, puritan Christianity & Laissez-faire capitalism. It wasn't mentioned in the video, but I wonder how much British NatCon movement is originating from, or being pushed by Christian religious lobby? Or even, American Christian lobby?

There is nothing to fear from this small group of people.
Small? Surely they represent a great number of our countrymen and women. There’s a huge appetite for a confident, coherent and unified conservative vision. The red wall voters are small-c conservatives. As a Gen Zer myself, I’ve spoken to many people my age who feel that there’s a real conservative backlash brewing against the excesses of the millennial far-left.
The problem is the “Conservative” party has not been conservative in living memory, and the nature of proportional representation is such that opting for smaller parties is essentially throwing away a vote.
Don’t make the mistake though of underestimating the conservative sway of the people. It will find an outlet inevitably, just as it has done in Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary…

I’m a Labor member of 25 years and the idea that National Conservatism is the future of the Tory party is music to my ears. The British public always reject extremes, it’s why Jeremy Corbyn failed so catastrophically. The Tory party have completely failed to grasp this and are lurching further and further to the right. As they move away from the centre they leave behind the British public. Labor could be in power for 25 years at this rate.
Really? For all the ‘right wing’ talk, look at the ‘behaviour’ of the government. Their policies are left of centre. Brexit has not been fully implemented, immigration is out of control, government spending and taxation is the highest it’s been for 70 years and the armed forces are the smallest they’ve been for 70 years.
