  • What is spasticity? What's up with Multiple Sclerosis muscle cramps, legs spasms and stiff limbs? I answer these questions in this short focus video.
The footage for this quick Multiple Sclerosis educational video is cut from a longer video on spasticity I recorded a while back. This focus video concept is new, and I'd love feedback on if you like this "just the facts" quick video style or not? Please let me know in the comments!

This quick (under 2 minutes) focus video is cut from older footage I recorded on spasticity. I'm trying this new format, what do you think? Are focused videos like this one something you'd like to see more of? Please let me know in the comments section!

This is one of my worst problems. It affects everything that I do every moment of everyday and night. Have to keep potassium up, temperature about 70 degrees. Can't get too hot or cold. Take baclofen as well. Love your example.

Hi Aaron, I know this is an older video so I don't expect you to see it or respond but it's my hope that you do. Where I'm being treated for MS does not offer baclofen pumps. I'm now taking it orally three times a day and that doesn't seem to be enough sometimes. I had another MRI last week and it showed an enhancing lesion on my thoracic spine, So the plan is for me to be treated with steroids for a week and then go to another medication. I'm now taking gilenya which doesn't seem to be doing the job. My practitioner and I are both leading towards tysabri. Thank you for your time buddy and I'm always watching for your next video

    Hi Aaron.
Just for better audio quality purposes, would you consider getting a microphone or change your recording machine so that there is no background noise. Would be really great for us subscribers! Take no offense. Thanks in advance for great video content :) You help so much with this channel. Appreciate your hard work.

Thank you for the great suggestion springfield. I use a Canon G7Xii, which is a groovy little camera, but it doesn't have a mic jack. The built in mic leaves a bit to be desired (as you've noticed!). I did some UA-cam research and it looks like one solution is to record on a separate device and sync up the audio and visual later in my video editor. I'll have to come up with something, or get a better camera. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Hi,Dr.B! I've always found your bedside manner to channel was friendly and warm. Very good example!!! Great information as always!!

Howdy AJ's HR! Thank you for the kind comments on this one! Please be on the lookout this weekend when I publish a longer discussion on spasticity and baclofen pumps! Please let me know what you think!
Regarding your question, sometimes folks perform less well under pressure (like when someone is staring at your face waiting for you to finish your sentence) as compared to doing the same task without any pressure (like composing your thoughts on a computer where you can stop, reflect, edit, etc). I think that folks with MS are sometimes more subject to this, at least that is my observation.

Great focus video Dr Aaron! Cold temps amp up my spasticity. Along with daily oral baclofen, stretching, movement, ambulating, and short walks in back yard help tune down spasticity for me. Heating pad on trunk & limbs. electric throw lap blanket on legs during daytime rest periods. Electric blanket in bed (even in air conditioned summer night's!! 😂😂) Extra layers of clothing on feet and legs helps too. Thanks for your channel.

my mother died with MS a few months ago after a failed suicide attempt by aspirin overdose. The aspirin overdose triggered an MS attack which bent her leg into a painful contracture. No amount of pain meds could stop the pain. She then had a stroke which stopped her eating ability completely and the contracture got worse. The stroke also stopped processing of saliva and her lungs filled up with saliva which killed her. I think if she had a peg tube earlier, we could have saved her

I'm thinking for definitions (e.g. this short video I defined spasticity in 1 minute 45 seconds). I envision doing doing something similar with some other term such as neurogenic bladder or dysarthria). I would produce these in addition to the normal 5-12 minute length videos...still thinking on it...

Thanks for that video. I learned a lot again. But this time the audio wasn’t so good. Maybe you can fix it for the next video. For when it’s windy there are things you can put on the microphone of your camera. It filters out the sound of wind and will record the normal sound much more clearly.

Spasticity is ruining me right now... I'm on baclofen it does nothing for these attacks... I've fought for diazepam again not doing much of anything... The nurses keep saying "it's just an exhaserbation"... Burn all I can think of is this isn't "just" anything... These are causing me choking, my tongue to be stuck or rattle, coughing. And of course rapid muscle movements elsewhere... something that causes me to be unable to breathe for periods of time can't "just" be anything surely...

Hey Doc what do they call it when only part of the muscle relaxes and part of it stays contracted forming a knot. I get them in my lower calf muscle(lowest part of the Gastrocnemius) and upper thigh where the muscle connects to the groin(highest part of the Adductor Longus) Left leg only they get as big as tennis balls and stay at least four hours and as long as four days. Very painful and the only thing that helps is a trip to the ER where they give me 10mg of IV Valium and a IV Morphine. That takes the pain away but the knot can hang around for days. I have had all the test they are not blood clots or anything else just muscle cramps. Sorry for being so specific and thank you so much for the work you are doing. You are helping more people than you truly know. God Bless You

I'm just posting this on the off chance I can garner some aid from any input, but I seem to have trouble with this and cramping. I've been diagnosed with benign fasciculation syndrome and fibromyalgia. My major is is that I've gotten worse and worse over the 5 or so years since i was diagnosed. I have symptoms that don't fit. Everytime i wake up from sleep, I'm super stiff and in pain, every joint joint in my body pops when I get moving and sometimes i feel so heavy i can hardly get out of bed for days at a time. I cant exercise at all, anything i repeat with weight will start twitching and/or lock up after about 5 reps; even just flexing. Yes, I take electrolytes and stay hydrated (bloodwork agrees). I have trouble writing or typing bc its hard to control my hands and at times. Other issues i have are random stabbing pain and bee stings, a burning sensation all over and just getting poked wherever hurts way more than it should and takes awhile to go away. I also wake up out of sleep from cramps like charlie horses and find that I've pushed my mattress away from my wall. I have a bunch of other issues i can't even fit on here, but that covers main stuff. Ive tested negative for most autoimmune and my brain scan was clear. Im pushing for whatever spine test for ms. A lot of bfs people think they have ms when they dont, but i have a bunch of symptoms bfs patients dont seem to have. Any feedback is welcome! Fighting for my life at this point. Without my daughter I'd of called it quits by now. Thanks.

Dr. Boster, I broke my back in a couple of places in '03, and was diagnosed with MS about 6 years ago. I currently have 2 lesions active in my neck, but am suffering horrible lower back pain for no obvious reason near one of the break sites. Can MS interact with the old spinal injury to cause this agony, or is it likely unrelated?

    • @AaronBosterMD
      @AaronBosterMD  6 років тому +1

I think that it could be true and true and not related....BUT more likely one condition exacerbates the other. As my mentor used to say, "sometimes nature is just a little too generous"

What term would characterize not being able to walk or use an arm at intermittent times. I use to get a weird feeling throughout my body and I knew it was coming and would only last a short time, but would do it multiple times a day for quite a while until it tapered off. Would this be possibly deemed as some sort os seizure? Yes I do currently have MS and thankfully it has not happen since, but always wondered.
