I believe that any director who wants to make any action film should watch this scene every night before going to bed! The actors' expressions, the shots, the camera movements, the music... everything fits together perfectly! Sumptuous and masterful
@@michaelottway6553 Yeah. Great thing about Steadicam operating, it just stays with you. Never let 'em out of your sight. I mean, we could talk about it all day if we needed to.
Every time I watch this scene I pray he makes the train.........I know the ending.....but I still give my hopes up thinking maybe this time.......Carlito makes the train. Such an iconic movie
One of the best scenes ever made, the tension De Palma manages to bring is simply great, acting, camera, soundtrack, everything is perfect. Al Pacino proving once again why he is one of the best actors in history
This is one of the greatest sequences ever shot The chase and how it all leads to the climax The suspense They didn't opt for a big shoot out to end things They really took their time and built up to that point in a beautiful suspenseful way Carlito all alone with one clip and having to make it count when the time is just right. And they didn't forget that either cause with the last survivor on his tail after the clip was empty he needed a miracle. And he gets one in the form of the cops catching up to the guy It's a brilliant sequence
What a masterpiece of a film. Every scene is this chase is so compelling. An absolute classic. Although the Mafia boss sure picked the wrong team for a fast chase !
7:30 - A Masterclass of music and direction coming together to create one of the absolute finest 4 seconds one can focus on. The whole scene is brilliant, but those four seconds of Carlito laying low going down the escalator with the violins as the music - BRILLIANT!
Not for nothin, i set dressed all those train cars with Production designer Mr. Dick Sylbert. It was a damn honor. I felt like a big shot! #imreloaded ✨️🥰💯
This is Brian DePalma film. He is a unique director and one of the best of all time. The scenery and the people. You never know who might just appear out of the corner of the screen. Which made the ending that much bittersweet. A masterclass in film.
One of my favorite Al Pacino movie. Brilliant - all the actors. I really think that this is one of the best Sean Penn’s role. Of course, Al Pacino is the most talented actor of all times. I actually had a section of this book read by my students to trace the stages of the “fallen hero”, the man who fails because of his flaws and street code of honor.
AL PACINO what a awesome actor who has made absolutely brilliant movies with this Quality masterpiece then Scarface then The Godfather 1and 2 The Irishman then Heat and Donnie Brasco then Scent of a Woman also Sea of Love and Serpico.
True, first thing that comes to mind is having a spare jacket that doesn't scream "Carlito" in the middle of a busy street, a train, let alone a whole train station.
What I was wondering is why Carlito didn't shave and get a haircut as he tried to evade the mob killers. If they ran into him, they would think it was Michael Corleone ;)
A Brian De Palma specialty, he always slyly foreshadows an impending incident by giving visual hints before. Like in the an earlier sequence in Pool hall, a door in the background is strangely being opened ajar.
I have never seen this movie but a great fan of Al Pacino . My only issue is that he escapes the men hounding him and could have exited the station anytime anywhere but then goes back looking for them. Why then go back to the escalator when its a pinch point for everyone and let loose in the middle of the most crowded location .

This scene was very similar to what Brian DePalma did in Dressed to Kill.
@@justinjames6140 Yes, it's true. You can see his characterization of the way of directing a film
Benny Blanco is a common, little murderer.
De Palma has best tracking Steadicam shots, I especially loved his Snake Eyes cinematography

The continuity in this scene is so fluid and organic. I love it. You feel like you're there.
i love how the train intercom and schedule adds to the suspense. makes you feel like he gotta go NOW!!but they’re THERE!!
Totally agree..
The scene itself is a masterpiece, the music and tension first class

huge film, very underrated
Brilliant camera work
This movie is underrated
One of the greatest, no doubt - the acting, the dialog, the weaving of the story throughout the movie from beginning to end.
One of Pacino's best ever films ever
Most sad ending! Whenever I rewatch this scene, I always wish Carlito could escape.
This always gonna be a classic man! got nothing but love for my boy Carlito's wey!

Best chase scene ever.
Carlito didn't make it, but Al was doing Penelope during the entire production. Must be nice 😂
Spectacular film. Unmissable. It is among the 5 best of the great Al Pacino
What an incredibly filmed sequence!
The best: AL PACINO
This movie and Serpico I think were Pacino's best movies.
DePalma's long handheld camera scenes always give me a pleasant dizzy spell.
AL PACINO THOSE EXPRESSIVE EYES HE IS THE GREATEST ACTOR EVER TO WALK THIS EARTH NO SURPRISE IS IS ALWAYS VOTED AS THE NUMBER ONE
Absolutely Breathtaking!
I love the whole sequence!
I never get tired of watching this scene even if with a sad ending

Benny Blanco from The Bronx: Remember me?! 😈💥

Impossibile to pretend emotions like theese in the movies of today..

I remember those R30 subway cars on the C line. They retired in 1993 leading to NYC Subway Car shortage in BMT/IND Division.
You shouldve left the ending its hilarious.
