DIY Backyard Ecosystem Pond (For My Parents)

  • A few years ago I started my journey with ponds. They're a lot of fun and super relaxing. I've shown you various types since then, but I haven't built a DIY ecosystem pond. I wanted to for a while, so I made it happen and built one for my parents.
    They've wanted one for years and I was so excited to make that happen. This one actually was fairly easy to build and I got it done in about 2 days. It took another 3 to add all the final details. I think it turned out great! What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
    Also a huge thanks to my friends from AquaScape for supplying the 6x8 Pond Kit. It made the whole process a lot easier because all I had to get were the rocks and plants.

    Can you please come and make THIS mama a pond too? Just the little portion at the end that you showed of the pond and all the plants and flowers, with the sound of the running water had a pretty profound effect on my body. I could feel inside my chest my body relax. And after the past few days of Russia attacking Ukraine, the continued COVID death and destruction news I really needed that. It’s very very beautiful. I’ve seen your thumbnails and know of you, I have snakes so our communities are just different fingers on the same hand. Now I have to go watch MORE! Good job, you’re a very good son to do that for your mama!

    • @GreenMachine1365
      @GreenMachine1365 3 роки тому +6

      @@GregWittstockThePondGuy There's no doubt, your step by step method is the easiest way to make sure a DIYer like me gets everything right. It leaves tons of room to customize to fit someone's own vision, and lots of leeway for needed adjustments like the one that's probably the biggest hurdle for a solo builder - getting and placing bigger rocks. I learned the hard way that all rocks are different - and granite is heavy! Using the biggest rocks you can makes it look so much better, but it's the single hardest part of a DIY build. In the end it's all worth it though, and the Aquascape videos are a godsend for us home builders. Serpa's is a great example and shows what it's really like for a one man crew, great job!

      You know a green house can be very beautiful and lush like in many botanical gardens. It doesn't have to be plastic. The green house will prevent evaporation and protect a pond. Utilize aquaponics to reduce water use and have beautiful and or edible plants cleaning the water for your fish that fertilize the water for your plants!

    • @Stephen-uz8dm

    Since your mom likes birds, consider adding a few rocks, so they’re barely in the water, my 1/2” of water. This will attract the birds so they can bathe in it. I would love a pond like this, simply to attract the birds in to my back yard. Birds are attracted to moving water/the sound of water. This is really nice, A+

    Even though stocking is limited, I really like the look of the smaller scaled pond you did an amazing job! Also great location the parents will get joy from it for many years

      Yeah! And you don't even need to put fish in. It could just be a frog pond for native species

    I wanna see you build a HUGE pond. One with many waterfalls and other smaller ponds too. Maybe with upper, middle and lower ponds
