Comic Dub #1: Sonic Promotional Comic 1991

- My first comic dub! Now, this is the origin story of Sonic the Hedgehog. You probably have many questions. "Why is Sonic blue?" Or "Why is Dr. Robotnik evil?" Both these questions, and more, shall be answered here in this very comic! So sit back, relax, and enjoy!

I don’t even, and never have, considered this backstory canon to the Sonic video game series.

This is Sonic the Hedgehog #1 and this very 1st comic of Sonic came out a few months before the actual game. This my friend is the real deal👌because this was way before ARCHIE comics made it into a comic series.
I like this backstory over the Sonic Adventure era and beyond.
So the pure evil energy after that accident from those omnipotent rings and the rotten egg, turned Eggman into a power-hungry mad human demon. Makes you want to go "Oh no!"
Just remember, this was what Sega of America originally planned the backstory to be...
It's cool, and all, but makes no sense.
(That, and its plot has more holes than finely aged Swiss cheese...)
And that's the reason why it was scrapped so quickly...
The Japanese design of Dr. Robotnik is, in my opinion, MILLIONS of times better than the box art monstrosity we got in the west. (Heck, on some box arts, they just put AoStH Robotnik on there)
But, not long after, they scrapped the backstory, and the UK used it for Sonic the Comic.
And, worst of all, the American design of Robotnik actually contradicts the in-game design. Y'know. The bespectacled, bald and belligerent, ovoid-shaped and obese, and mustachioed man with a goofy grin.
In other words, while it may have seemed good for promotional purposes, it was overall quite dumb on their part.
Long story short: Robotnik has always worn glasses, and anyone who's seen this video should know this is not, and never will be, canon to anything but StC.
Well, if it was one-to-one with Japan's backstory, then we wouldn't have gotten the name Dr. Ivo Robotnik. (Which, in my opinion rolls off the tongue better than Dr. Eggman, but that's just me.)
But then again, they changed his name here WAY before this canon was even thought of.
But, I'm just glad that they scrapped this canon rather quickly, since it's quite nonsensical.
As for the box-arts being the way they are, it's probably designed like that to maybe "catch the eye," so to speak. Sorta like the old Mega-Man box-arts.
Either way, Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik will always be one of my personal favorite villains of all time.
If that were to have happened, I'd like to think that it may have been like Sonic 3D-Blast, except NOT isometric. (And not as annoying having to take care of the Flickies)
However, unlike 3D-Blast, it probably would have had a different name, like "Sonic: The Next Dimension."
Who knows what kind of 3D platformer it may have been like; Free-roaming, linear, or even a mixture of both?
The story would most likely involve Dr. Robotnik finding an alternate dimension, where many things are distorted and confusing. Maybe Sonic and his friends would have to try to find Robotnik, while encountering many other baddies? Possibly warped versions of all the characters?
Who knows... It's fun to think about though.
DC Comics have early Sonic comic adaption in 1991. And then, Archie Comics have early 1993 release. Good old days. I never seen DC Comics with Sonic in 1991 before.
this proves that's sonics speed does not come from his shoes cause its sais that his shoes burnt up so he gave him new should and hes was still able to go that fast good to know I would of raged if it came from his shoes

In all honesty, there have been so many Sonic backstories and cannons over the years, but this is the backstory I think fits the games most. (At least, until SA retconned it)
I mean, it still has some plot-holes, and I honestly don't see this as the official games' canon, but it does fit in line with the games.
@@kingdedede5965 I know I'm responding to an old comment, but whatever. This was only made for promotional purposes in the US by some comic writers that didn't communicate with the Japanese creators at all. This was never officially canon even back in the day.

Fun Fact:According to the Sonic Bible files,Sonic's father died in a toxic waste barrel. Kintobor was like a paternal figure for Sonic. Also,in this files,Sonic had a mother and 5 sisters. They were a poor,yet happy family (like the Bucket family,from Charlie and the chocolate factory)
For anyone who sees this as canon to the original Sonic games, understand that it isn't a story that Sonic Team of Japan made, nor was this even made by Sega of America. Just like the Archie comics it was made legally, but was really just something quickly slapped together for promotional purposes by some US comic writers who didn't communicate with the creators in Japan at all. It is not officially Sonic's origin story.
It will always be canon to the Sonic games to me.

I alway's thought that Robotnik was his mother's maiden name, and his father's being Kintobor.
But then again, there are so many Sonic continuities that it is quite convoluted thinking about how they all fit together...

Gerald is Ivo's maternal grandfather (at least, in this canon)
Either way, as of Sonic Adventure/Adventure 2, this backstory has been null and void.

I honestly don't even believe this canon for the games, since it just never made sense.
As for Fleetway's Sonic the Comic, this is essentially the canon that it's based off of.
This story inspired me to have eggs for breakfast today. :)

+calumgames Yeah. It is rather strange that they chose to make Robotnik swear. But hey, they would do that like 13 years later in Shadow the Hedgehog, so it's not that big of a deal to me.

Hey cool. I got a downloaded copy of it and have been progressing on fixing it so that it’ll be like new and more readable. It’s just on hold for a while. I already digitally restored the fount cover so it’d look like new. I’ll upload the restored version when it’s finished.
I wish that other 90s characters like Captain Planet,Freakazoid,Animaniac,Crash bandicoot and Spyro Had live action movies!

Fleetway’s sonic and Robotinik origins are based on this comic. Very similar!

There is something completely wrong with Sonic's voice... And it makes me cringe. It sounds kind of like the "The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog" show, but more wrong. Uh, ok.
Waggywoo カワイイワン I meant to make Sonic’s voice really stereotypically 90’s, since this was an old, cringe-worthy 90’s Comic that I had found years ago.
I didn’t expect people to even see this, let alone watch it.
Now it’s my most viewed video, and I still have absolutely no clue why.
I can’t even watch this without cringing, and thinking “Man, I could do much better now.”
I’ve been thinking about remaking this dub, but I don’t know if I should, since I’ve never cared for this backstory.
Thankfully, it was never the backstory for the video games...
