At the age of ninety-four, Maggie Howard’s final wish is to return to San Francisco and find out what happened to the young man who saved her life in 1906 after the disastrous earthquake and fires that devastated the city. They’d been trapped beneath a collapsed roof for hours, injured and unable to call for help.
The morning of their rescue, Orlando Gallo promised he would find her again. But Maggie hasn’t seen or heard from him in over seventy years, and now, widowed and childless, Maggie hopes to leave her estate to Orlando’s descendants. She invites her neighbor, forty-year-old Jo Sampson, to travel with her, and as the two women return to San Francisco to track down Orlando, they form a strong bond of friendship and healing that transcends time and place.

My mother had dated the love of her life before my father. They broke up when she was still young, she married my father then. It was about 45 years ago or so. My parents divorced. I always knew about this other guy, she didn’t hide her feelings towards him. About 5 years ago, when I went to visit her, she told me and my wife the whole history in details, my wife then asked if she remembered his last name, she not only remembered, but also where he was from and his brother’s name. We promised her we’d find him, see if he was single and reunite them. We went on a mission to find him or his family. Like Joe and Maggie did, but online and calling. We did find his niece. She said he had passed away 8 years previously from cancer. He never married. We cried ours eyes out. And mom hopes to find him again in heaven. This book really touched me! Thank you!

What a wonderful book! What I love about it so much is not only does it have a wonderful story, but it is not nasty, in any way. You can still have very interesting stories without being raunchy. I really appreciate this book.

Such a lovely story! Bittersweet when regrets and loss are revealed. Definitely a summer when healing is needed and embraced as a different path is opening before you. Change can be so daunting. Hope I can be as brave when I need to travel in a new direction. Thanks for posting this wonderful book.
Love the narrator, especially her voice for Maggie! I can't stand listening to books with AI voices with their lack of emotion and unnatural pauses in the wrong places, so this was a delight! What a wonderful story! Even though I own this as an e-book, I really enjoyed listening to it. Thank you for sharing!

I love the classics like Jane Austin and the Brontes. I've listened to many Authors by audio I become bored with a lot of books recently. I came a cross this accidentally. I was hooked. What a beautiful story and the best narrator ive listened too. They brought the feeling and emotion to life it made me cry a few times. I will definitely be looking for this author again. I much prefer to read myself and found this audio by mere chance. Glad I did. Excellent narrator. Took me back to my childhood when on a Sunday evening you tuned in to the National network radio and Spike Milligan or the likes would be reading you books. Yes we had tvs, this was far more fun and left your imagination and attentiveness to do the rest of the work. NZ and indeed the world is a different place. Loved Orlando and Maggie's story. I’m only about 3 hours into this book and I absolutely love it! I’ve been listening to a ton of audiobooks lately to stay lost in someone else’s story so I don’t have to think about mine. This story is so well written and the characters so well developed that I am completely caught up in their lives!

I love this story for some reason! This is the first quote" romance"I actually liked and got into. Thank God it was not one of those sloppy kissy kissy types. UA-cam algorithms brought it to me although I listen to a very different genre generally speaking. The reason why I'm writing this review is not simply because I liked it but rather that I'm surprised I liked it! After pretty much giving up on love after my divorce almost 10 years ago, I found myself starting to think that there might be a chance for me to find love. Those feelings were brought on by the story of this book. I wanted to let the author know that this story had that effect on me whereas in the past I've been completely to the idea of ever finding love again. Maybe I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to start dating again.... But just wanted to let the author know that I found the book wonderfully inspiring. The history, the storyline and the narrator were all great!
