Awesome win Hamish..well deserved
Mutual respect all across the board 👍
That was the best post competition interview.
Ahh something positive. I agree
Gimme my Gold and leave it that way for the books or somethin
If you are lacking in motivation in life or sport. Just watch this video!
Sharing the gold is the most practical and logical thing to do do.
However, these are highly competitive athletes who have dedicated their lives in the pursuit of excellence. Their DNA is coded to accept and recognize only 1 champion.
Some people might say it was gutsy, some might say it was greedy, but at the end of the day all the burden lies with the athlete.
He must be able to find a way to rewrite his story and hopefully win gold the next time.
It's ridiculous that they leave it up to the athletes to decide how to break a tie. Just put in the rules either that it's a jump-off or a shared gold medal and let everyone live with it.
I agree. It's very unsatisfying for a spectator for there to be no conclusive winner and the 2 leaders get to share the gold and not risk getting a silver via a tiebreaker.
They had the choice to share a gold or do a jump-off. It was the athletes chocie to do this lame jump off where none of them could make the jumps. Mens high jump was very weak this year
@@Texascudaguy you clearly didn't understand what the comment said at all, he's saying they shouldn't be the ones to decide that and the officials should, it's extremely weak for the competitors to be the ones deciding it
@@Mdksupreme1 - And they shouldn't be the ones because there should have been dual gold medalists and no further discussion needed. If they match height and attempts, they should both be awarded the gold medal. They don't "share" the medals because they both earned them separately. The only way to fix the high jump competition is to make it a single elimination tournament where you have 16 jumpers face each other in matches with jump off type rules to advance to the next round. Put the jumpers in direct competition against one another and the problem gets solved easily.
@parawill7074 Hell no, the golds should NEVER be shared in any circumstances, if they are tied at the same height and attempts, then it should be an automatic jump off
Hamish wanted. to share the gold but shelby wanted a jump off. shelby became the olympic champion along with hamish, but shelby chose not to share his gold with Hamish and requested a jump off. his decision is going to haunt him for the rest of his life. most athletes would die for to be the olympic champion. he became the olympic champion, and he chose to gamble with his gold medal is bonker.
They said they both wanted a jump off. When did Hamish say he want to share the gold?
No one wanted to share the gold. They both wanted a jump off.
McEwen was a fool for doing the jump off and the reason for why it was foolish had to do with the fact that he already struggled at the lower height before clearing it. He matched Kerr at that height and Kerr was smart enough to know that he stood a great chance at that height, especially when McEwen struggled at it and was likely a bit fatigued after so many jumps. No, I'm not doing a jump off at a lower height. We either clear the higher height or we end in a tie and go down as dual gold medalists. McEwen gained a lesser medal for failing at a lesser height. Dumb move.
@@parawill7074 It was definitely not a dumb move by the American MacEwen. I’m not so sure why you are so perplexed at his decision. If you saw the press conference afterward with all three medalists both of them said they agreed to do the jump off. Even the great Barshim, the bronze medalist, insisted that was the right decision and he explained why. He (Barshim) said there were extenuating circumstances in Tokyo that people don’t know about that made him and the Italian jumper agree to share the Gold medal in 2021. He said he’d never do it normally and he was very happy the two guys didn’t share the Gold.
MacEwen said he was very happy with his Silver medal and wouldn’t hesitate to make the same decision again. The other guy said the same thing, that he would have been very satisfied if he’d lost the jump off and got the Silver medal. It’s the spirit of competition and the spirit of the Olympics, to push yourself to your limits and see what your mind and body can achieve. If another man beats you so be it. There is absolutely no shame in receiving a Silver medal if your competitor is just a little bit better than you on the day. True competitors know that and will live by that.
@@parawill7074 And to your point about higher heights and lower heights and so on and so forth, that is just irrelevant. The jump off has its rules and they are what they are. It’s really another competition in itself. Who cares if the winning height cleared in the jump off is a little lower than what both jumpers cleared before? Maybe both jumpers are a little tired so they have to go lower. If the American made the wrong decision because of all your reasons then just let him live with it. He wanted a jump off, he got a jump off and he barely lost. He seemed to be quite happy with his Silver medal and all three high jump professionals ( who are at the pinnacle of their sport) agreed it was the right decision. Somehow you, the pro on the internet, think it was such a stupid dumb move on his part and he’ll regret it for the rest of his life. I guess you live in his mind.
Respect for both guys that decided to compete till the end.
@michael-101 being in a tie for first place doesnt feel as good as being first on your own
By sharing the gold. You guys would have had the best Olympic moment. Winning comes in a variety and amazing ways.
No, the best olympic moment was Kerr winning the gold from the jump off. This is a sport, salute to both of those guys for being outstanding competitors
nah.. shelby is crying inside you can see it in his eyes 😂

Shelby really has the guts, although he missed the gold. The extremely aggressive sportsman who pushes the limit is always admirable. Two gold medals do not make sense, there is ONLY ONE highest jumper.
No, it's time to admit that his decision was stupid and that he got some bad karma lmao
To think that ties don't exist... stupid. He lost the gold, he gave China the overall win... good job!!
@@hibou4828how is it stupid for a competitor to not want to share a gold? In Tokyo, people hated the sharing and now they hate that they didn’t share
@hibou4828 bad karma for being competitive? Alright buddy, we know you don't play sports loool
@@hibou4828plus kerr literally says they both decided to do the jump off
He’s a gold medal winner in my book. I’m not sharing a gold medal with anybody. Check out the balls on this guy. Awesome.
true he won the biggest loser award.
💯 I’d rather risk finishing with Silver than share a Gold medal. There can be only ☝🏽🏅
@@Notnecessarilyliberal lmao sound like a bot that voted for Biden he lost
@@lht1523 lmao and blow it for the entire team USA in gold count you must be black
@@IdOwnYouIRL Nope 😂
You’re not number one if you’re not number one. Only a real competitor would understand
Should have just shared the gold and podium. 2 clowns
YOU ARE THE ONLY CLOWN HERE, having the athletes decide on sharing medals is extremely pathetic, they should never be the ones deciding that, and jumpoffs should always be the default option
🧂🧂
American wanted to share but Hamish knew he had the shorty. Great win for the kiwi. meanwhile American is the biggest loser lol.
I don't like how that dude Hamish wanted a jump off. That was corny, just share the gold 🥇
Shelby was the corny one bro
It’s competition
@@Shy98are you deaf? They both decided to do a jump off
@@tobi2233I mean the American was the one shouting and jumping saying let’s go again
@@Pickleman2008 - Yes, it is a competition, but it is the high jump. They both failed at the higher height which means they are dual gold medalists. The jump off should have been scheduled for later and it should consist of 5 jumps at a specific height, where the one with the least misses wins gold. McEwen foolishly placed himself at a disadvantage by agreeing to the jump off at a height he just struggled clearing. You don't go to the Olympics and gamble on a gold medal with a jump off just to be competitive beyond the actual event. You already made the height to match your opponent for gold and both of you couldn't clear the next height, so get your gold medal and bask in the glory.
Greedy 'Da not so great Shelby' ... got what he deserved
I'm convinced you guys are just calling him greedy cause he's black. They both said they wanted the jump off, so what are you on about
