If you really wanna change or adapt the way you speak, keep practising, don't hurry, and that's gonna start feeling more natural soon enough. I've been there, too. Wish you the best, cheers.

    I love British English [& accent], and I come from Solomon Islands where English is the third language [& we seldom speak it]. I watched a lot of American movies + British movies and most of my in-fluence is coming from films and books. Sometimes I would read [any] sentence and imitate the British accent because I find it overwhelmingly satisfying [both hearing it and speaking it]. Thank you for the lesson misour linguini.

    This video is /pə.ˈfek.ʃən/! Keep 'em British accent videos coming!

    • @tiago4007
      @tiago4007 8 років тому +1

      +Tiago F Btw, please do a video on the minimal pairs: bot/bought, not/naught, shot/short etc. I can hardly tell the differece between those and therefore end up pronouncing them wrong quite often!

    • @rominaclavier8852
      @rominaclavier8852 8 років тому +2

      +Rustoro Actually, every word in those pairs is short. There's a difference in the use of vowels. Remember that when a vowel is followed by a /t/ (or other sounds that are produced without vocal fold vibration), as in these minimal pairs, vowels are shortened (clipped). So what you do in this case is to produce a different vowel sound :)

    • @tiago4007
      @tiago4007 8 років тому

      Romi Clavier You're right. So much so that the phonetic transcription for bot is /bɒt/, whereas the one for bought is /bɔːt/ etc - different symbols for different vowel sounds.

    • @rominaclavier8852
      @rominaclavier8852 8 років тому +1

      +Tiago F Exactly!
      Don't be deceived by the little dots following those vowels because they aren't always long sounds! ;)
