That's what I believe too. In Lord Oysters notes, there's one that mentions how he wasn't willing to accept Abalone's Cookie deals (Meaning that Abalone probably forced him to do a lot of stuff and manipulated him as well) and another note says how Lord Oyster was the one who saved House Oyster, which means that he was indeed the one who took the pearl and probably had to sell it.
The pearl is not the one in ths fountain, when oyster cookie just came out one of her items to collect to get her pitty from her gacha was "lustrous black pearl" so my theory was that the pearl changed her color to dark after the betrayel.
In the mermaid story by Oyster Cookie's Nanny as also shown in this video, she was cursed by the sea because she stole something precious from her friend. In my theory, this might be because she lost her Pearl that was sold by a land dwelling Cookie and then she stole a pearl from another cookie which is close to her and then got cursed.
