You lost the Battle at the beginning because of an old seal the gods put on sun wukong. It was originally put there to force sun wukong to serve and protect a human Buddhist monk under the threat of the seal squeezing his head until it popped. The mission of the monk was to bring some important scrolls to the west, and in the process sun wukong was supposed to learn a lesson while protecting and escorting said monk. Essentially the gods interfered with the duel by using that seal around his head. I can't give more details because i don't know them.
Which is kinda weird, because since Wukong achieved Buddhahood, he shouldn't be subject to that. In simple terms, he scales higher than that. Another thing, only the Buddhas, Guanyin and Tripitaka should have the knowledge of the mantra that activates the crown.
@@megaboy767 then one of them must have been in on the attack. Most likely a plot against sun wukong in disguise as some kind of "lesson to be learned". And as for the scaling thing, I don't know. I'm probably one of the least knowledgeable people when it comes to sun wukong, so I wouldn't be able to even Hazzard a guess at how this was done or why. So the best thing I can say is the gods and Buddhas decided to start a fight with sun wukong and when the duel was being lost they decided to use the old seal.
(And just so I'm not offending anyone, I'm talking about the game. Like I said, I'm probably one of the least knowledgeable about this, so when it comes to the actual legends, stories, historical moments, or religious beliefs, I know next to nothing. Nothing except the tiniest snippets of information from random sources all over the place.)

@@megaboy767 oh I know how journey to the west went. It's just, that's not the only source of information on sun wukong. And even then I'm not sure how accurate that movie is to the true story and legends. So I went very VERY light on the details. To make sure I wasn't spewing nonsense that would offend people because of how wrong it was. Plus because it was a movie some things were obviously either fabricated or exaggerated to make it more interesting. So I can't use that as truly reliable information. Plus the main reason is this is a game. And she had no idea what was going on when the seal showed up. So I was giving the bare minimum of information to inform her and anyone else of the significance that moment held.
@@dakotamorrison7752 Journey to the West is actually a multi-book spanning novel written by Wu Cheng'en and is considered one of the four great novels of China. There are a lot of adaptations of Journey to the West so the accuracy of those adaptations vary. By the end of the book, the Buddhas, Guanyin, and Tripitaka don't have anything against Sun Wukong (game could have different interpretation of events). It is possible that there are Bodhisattvas (like Guanyin) that could know the mantra for the circlet, but does not seem likely based on the fact that other Bodhisattvas have no reason to do it to someone like Sun Wukong, who became a Buddha and just wants to live out his life in peace. But of course the game could be interpreting the original story a different way to fit the game or someone else with a vendetta against Sun Wukong learned the mantra.

- Can make infinite clones of himself
- Terrified every death god
- his polearm is technically a pillar used to measure the width and deapths of oceans
- leaped all the way to the edge of the universe and back

Seriously though, by the rules of this kind of story, in order to completely kill Sun Wukong, you’d have to:
1. Rewrite his name in the Book Of Souls, or whatever it’s called
2, 3, 4, and 5. Poison/curse him in such a way as to negate the benefits of the pills, peaches, wine, and ginseng.
6. Related to the prior steps, ensure that his body is contaminated, removing the benefits of his time in that furnace.
7. PROFOUNDLY shake his faith in his Dao, or whatever, to remove his Buddhahood.
8. Get the gods of death in on the plan so they can pick him up IMMEDIATELY!
And even after all that, you will have only successfully made Sun Wukong MORTAL again, so you’d STILL have to kill him to finally finish the job…though, considering who it is, every step would probably have been sabotaged by Deus Ex Monkey shenanigans, so good luck dealing with a very pissed off, probably even MORE immortal Monkey King!

It's interesting to note that Erlang - the three-eyed guy with the three-pointed spear - would've once been in a very similar position as Sun Wukong.
He's the Jade Emperor's nephew through the Jade Emperor's sister. Unfortunately, gods are forbidden to have relationships with humans. As a result, he lost more than one family member, though he was eventually able to free his mom from being crushed beneath a mountain.
It's probably why Erlang stays away from the heavenly court in Journey to the West.
Technically, the tutorical boss (Erlang Shen) is more of a hero than your character Sun Wukong (who is more of an antihero or borderline villain). Sun Wukong in the 16th century story Journey to the West is a human-monkey with crippling ADHD who is constantly high on cocaine and gains superpowers, and basically wrecks everything everywhere he goes.
5:02 Answering that comment, making Sean Schemmel voice Wukong wouldn’t work for the tone of the game, unlike him voicing Wukong in Lego Monkey Kid. As the voice direction is likely trying to be close to the performance of the Chinese dub, hence the more shrill and smarmy English voice here.

5:11 The opponent here is Erlang Shen, a deity in the upper echelons of the Celestial Court, and is the one who has bested Wukong in the past when he first openly rebelled against the court. Here he is accompanied by his faithful hunting dog, the Xiaotian Quan, and the 4 giants backing him up are the Four Heavenly Kings.

Essentially
1. Wukong is super immortal because he reached peak daoist magic, erased his name from the book of afterlife, ate all the immortality pills in heaven, ate heaven's peaches, drank heaven's wine, and attained Buddhahood. Which is why you literally can't lose the first fight, because you can't die.
2. The opening takes place after journey to the west and someone interfered with the fight. Possible and likely candidates include but not limited to the Goddess of Mercy, The Buddha himself, or Wukong's master Tripataka.
3. While it is true that Erlang Shen has defeated Wukong once, it was due to Wukomg being outnumbered and ambushed by other gods. They were described as evenly matched, and that was before Wukong reached his peak, because after his arrest he was put into a magic furnace to melt the immortality elixir out of him. He survived for many days and busted out of the furnace, getting tempered and becoming impenetrable (which is why he is able to grab and walk into Erlang Shen's spear without fear).
4. The author of the novel planned to write Erlang Shen as the stronger fighter, but Wukong's feats and abilities just make it seem impossible for anyone to beat him in combat. So Wukong is the original Gojo getting f'd by Gege's shit writing.

Sun wukong has already completed his journey to the west (that was after 500 years of his imprisonment) and become the buddha of Victorious Fighting (that's why wukong said "his master (the Tang monk) is safe and the scriptures (the sutras) are sound".
the man/god he fought in the beginning was Erlang Shen (The god with mystical third eye, Warrior god with a celestial dog as sidekick and most all Wukong's biggest rival) and why the heavenly court still came after him because they probably disliked the fact that he still roams free (doesn't yield to the heavens and the fact they were still bitter about Wukong's rampage after so many years).
so wukong is no more, pieces of him (his relics) are scattered to the wind, your role as "the destined one" is to embark on a journey, find Wukong's lost relics and restore them back at the stone of his birth at Mount Huaguo.

Under this lore, the Chinese gods don’t have immortality. They have thousands of years of lifespan. And they keep eating stuff that make them live even longer. Whereas Buddha, which Wukong became at the end of the original JttW, does have immortality.

I'm not 100% confident but, iirc, the Monkey King's duplication ability is technically an extension of his shapeshifting powers. Every part of his body has his shapeshifting powers, including individual hairs, so he can pluck out hairs and command them to change into things, usually duplicates of himself.
He also often chews the hairs into more, smaller pieces first so he can get more clones.
Facts: monkey king's goal ambition is to be and gain more immortality. Jade emperors of all heaven are mad to wukong that he eat a peach from a peach tree of immortality. That reason the jade emperors send this guy to beat wukong. Buddha of the universe stop wukong from his pride and seal him in the mountains until a young monk free him and company him along the journey. A monk gave him a golden ring on his head to prevent his hot temper.
This game is actually set after the events of Journey to the West. Sun Wukong, instead of settling into the Celestial Court, decided to leave and go back to his home mountain to enjoy the simpler life. The Celestial Court, angered that he did this, decided to attack Sun Wukong and his people, leading to the events of the intro of this game

I think its so cool that the voice of the opening boss is the main guy from warrior, boy kills world, he was storm shadow in the g.i. Joe movies and was in bullet train.

I know NO ONE likes a back-seat gamer, so I won't offer any specific advice except as to say SEARCH EVERYWHERE! There are secrets, hidden items, and hidden BOSSES in places you'd NEVER expect!
I actually recommend that you do side quests because it may make a difficult boss easier from the rewards. Especially in CH2. No spoiler, but just...be mentally prepared for some BS.
Alicia if you like the game also you probably know this but Goku and a lot of the tropes in media is from Journey to the West and Sun Wukong. Also the Lego monkey Kid is a series I recommend since English Va for Goku voices Sun Wukong.

Make sure u search around a bit. This game rewards u for exploring. A lot of the side bosses are tied to the main story, too, so dont worry about staying on the main path. Go anywhere u feel(probably the reason there's no map in this game).
Definitely grabbing this game down the line. Just started my journey into the souls series with almost finishing Elden Ring

@@aliciaxdeath Good to know, I stopped there and spent time googling to see if I'd lost the reward. Very confusing posts took me a bit to sort out. If you go on without beating them you lose them but if you beat and click the blue flame you can claim the spirit later via the wandering spirits option.
