- Bear Stalks Family Along Hiking Trail in Whistler
A young family recorded a scary encounter with a bear during a hiking trip in Whistler, in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
This footage, filmed by Brighton Peachey, shows a bear stalking the family along a hiking path. Peachey can be heard saying “do not run” to her child and husband who are walking slowly away from the animal.
The couple then shouts and waves their arms in an attempt to scare the bear off.
In an Instagram post Peachey said, “We later learned they’ve had to close this area multiple times because of this bears increasing aggressive behavior”.
“This was scarier than the time I was mock charged by a bear because I had my kids with me & felt helpless. The bear was not intimidated by us at all, he just kept following us.”
According to news reports the bear eventually trailed off and never became aggressive towards the family.

Them “Hey bear”
Bear: well I’m coming but when I get closer you walk faster
Phagahahahgahahagagahaahaha
"Hey bear" is so ridiculous to say. You could scream absolutely any phrase or noise. You could roar like an animal. But people say "hey bear" in the most gentle way.
😂😂😂😂 !
Lol
Plot twist...the father dropped his wallet about a mile back and the bear was just trying to give it back to him.
Right, or it just wanted to tag along. Bears don't usually attack people. Mountain Lions I would be more cautious of. But not some silly oh bear.
Plot twist: the bear was actually a debt collector from t mobile as the dude had defaulted on his contract, he was trying to scare him until it became unbearable........see what I did there?.
Twist my nuts instead 🥲
And bear saying I've been hiking for hrs can I barrow something out picnic basket or maby spot bear 20
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The irony of the kid saying “can we play dead yet” 🙈😬
This is so scary having two young kids, let alone without.
They have 3 one or the mon
It isn't tho.
The bear is using the trail. He isn't stalking the family.
U CANT predict if the bears wild instincts will kick in or not.
Scary or stupid?
Props to the kid for trying to add some comic relief to the situation.
😂 moms was really shitting her pants but was tryna stay calm lol
“Ummm … my name is not ’Bear’, it is Maurice.”
When you go hiking where there’s bear sightings, its very important to either have a bear spray with you, or a slower friend.
A slower friend! 😅
😂
They had their kids…
No. If you are hiking in bear country without several persons with sidearms then frankly you get what you likely wanted. If a criminal is stupid (they are) then it must follow that stupidity is criminal. It is.
I just bought Udap bear spray ,shoots 40 feet
Wonderfully calm parents! Kudos to them!
You know they're all dead don't you.
@@JGBCFC91 wrong.
Interesting how people walk in the woods with nothing to protect themselves.
Just call the police.
Worse with a young family like that
It's more dangerous in the city than it is there.
I was wondering if they had bear spray
Should have kept throwing rocks, sticks and waving their arms. Not turning around and keep walking away. 😅
Don't run...but DO keep walking.
“Can we play dead yet?” 😂
You won't have to play son.
Right?? I was thinking, you lay down right now to play dead, you will be dead. Lol
They misunderstood, the bear is just a citizen enjoying the hiking trails
Racial profiling
She said “go home bear” lol the bear is like I am home lol
Pretty scary I hope they made it out safe
Lady human: Hey bear! Go Home.
Bear: Umm i am home
That woman’s “yelling” is the most non-threatening warning I’ve ever heard.
She said "go home!"
The bear should answer "this is my home"
She sounds welcoming though
The woman ”yelling” is just alluring to the bear….
The parents: trying to hide their panic
Kid: *Can we play dead now?*
That's smokey the bear trying to tell the family that only you can prevent forest fires.
The Bear, "I'm just trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty... "
Thats not funny

You didn't show how you escaped the bear finally.
Did you have a gun or spray, for protection ?
Bear: "They sped up..I sped up ..they sped up..I sped up, but I never did find out what was chasing us!"
I swear to god if that was my wife and kids I would have had her take all 3 and I'd have stayed and done ANYTHING I could to at least slow him down so they could get away ....NO WAY COULD I STAY THAT CALM AND JUST WALK AWAY AND HOPE HE DOESNT CHARGE ME WITH MY CHILD ON MY BACK
Hey bear
*hey breakfast
This vid made me finally buy a couple of bear spray cans for our hikes.
That's all you need unless you are Elk hunting in Grizzly country.
Beer burp
Yes
I’d suggest a 10mm. Bear spray is great when you know it’s bluffing but you’re not gonna have time to switch until after you figure that out. Plus bear spray can go really really wrong depending on the direction of the wind. I’d suggest both.
@@invaderjoshua6280or you could just stay out of the bears home instead of going in there and shooting up the place
The Bear :" WHY the F... they shout at me, i hold more then 2 meters distance."
What's scary Is I seen another video of bear behaving this exact same way but was following a moose and her 2 children. Finally after several long hours according to the video, it got close and just suddenly snapped and sprinted at the baby moose. Ate it right in front of the mother and took the 2nd aswell...absolutely savage and brutal
Many people are simply not suitable for being out in the wild. They should have a firearm with them or not be there at all. It is that simple.
When out on my farm I always carry a firearm with me. I normally have a rifle in the truck and a side arm. I come across bears all the time and any one of them could just snap.
wtf? That's what bears do. Do you think they shop at Safeway?
@@bighands69 You're American right?

People do the dumbest things summertime's. Why would I go trail hiking with babies in an area that has bears.
That’s what I’m saying
They may not have known. Idk. Always have bear spray
As someone who grew up in BC and lived there for 30 years, I can tell you that bears are literally everywhere you go and even wander into the cities and towns often. Learning from a young age how to react and respond to bears that you encounter is the most important thing living there. Yelling "Hey bear" from 50 feet away is quite funny and cracks me up though.
@dtm1351 how should they have reacted
@@Manuel-tm9lj yes 👍 agreed 💯
Common Sense = Carry bear spray in an area that has bears
Amen to that. I live in Washington State and carry it anywhere that I'm hiking. Cheap insurance. And it will also work against dogs and mountain lions. Cheap insurance!
Did you watch the video? They have bear spray ready 0:37
As someone who's spent a lot of time in remote areas of BC and who's had many grizzly and black bear close encounters.
That bear was just curious and/or just going that way. It wasn't 'stalking'. I've been stalked and often it can be very difficult to spot them and even if you do, keep eyes on them. They are very good at what they do.
Although it showed no aggressive signs, that doesn't guarantee anything. People can be lulled into a false sense of security.
Most close encounters - without a fresh kill, cubs, or a sick/injured/starving bear are just that. Maybe a bluff charge, maybe they run right past you. Generally if you leave from the direction you came, then all is fine. That isn't always the way to safety though or it might offer other disadvantages.
I'm glad the dad had some spray. That is better than most.
Even if I was packing heat (and spray) in this case, I would be sure both were at the ready, but aside from having the spray in hand like he had, I wouldn't be overly concerned.
I generally talk to bears if they are curious. In almost all cases you aren't surprising them, despite what bear bell sellers might have you believe. But you can talk to them, not look them right in the eye and back away without running or turning your back. One of the reasons I 'talk' to them is to gauge their intent... curious or angry. If curious they will be interested in the fact you are talking. If they just want you out of there, they don't care.
For a black bear, I might try to scare it off... Hard when there are kids along.. I'd have them behing the adults if possible. The yelling and carrying on might cause a bear to break off. Most times it has no effect.
If you are attacked, then learning to shoot under survival stress, in awkward positions and with others around requires a lot of practice to do well and safely. You don't want to shoot to injure. Shooting should be an absolutely last resort for many reasons.
If this trial is in a provincial park of BC, you are not allowed to carry (😞) a firearm, bow or crossbows except for "Open Season" under the Wildlife Act. And then, it's likely those trials are closed to non hunters.
Many Canadians have mixed feelings on it; on the one hand you want/need to be able to defend yourself and others, on the other hand, it's likely someone (2 legged variety) will be shot/injured by mistake (or...well...maybe not), and our government's having none of that.
They got lucky. As you stated and many VERY experienced outdoors people have said, "it's not the bear you see to worry about, it's the bear you don't."
@@bobcaygeon6799you carry anyway fuck that
The bear was like hey family can I join you guys it a beautiful day
She's got s new album her biggest hit is "heeyyyyyy bear... HEY!"
Bear was like: crap those jerks have a camera. Those mfs never die 😂😂
This is not stalking. If you have ever seen a bear stalk (or any animal), this is not it. This bear is using the path of least resistance, just like this family. The family did everything exactly right.
Following with bad intentions is stalking. Shut up.
Stalking expert.... stalker
@@shizlittlebam Stalking is when you are trying stay hidden in order to take by surprise. The stalker wants the prey to be unaware of them.
All kinds of animals like to use trails, I assume for the same reason humans do: they're easier. I was even "stalked" by a turkey once 🦃. But the most interesting are lizards, although they usually run ahead of me and refuse to get off the trail.
The bear is persistently following and closing the distance between itself and its quarry; in this case the children being the “easy pickings.” It’s not in Disney World asking for accommodation.
Go home? he is home!
I dont see his house anywhere. How would you know?
going hiking with 3 kids in bear country ? Parent of the year Vs viral video opportunity dilemma.
Why are they calling "Hey Bear" when they want it to go away 😭
Human: Hey bear hey hey !!!!
Bear: okay okay I’m coming!
This video was taken from a cell phone found in the middle of the woods😂😮
Go home bear said wha do you mean this is my home lady you needs to get out of my way
And the award for parents of the year goes to 'Heeyy Bear'...
Her hollering sounds like a wounded animal to the bear
Bear: i just walk and enjoy my day
Yeah yeah on your sleep
I live in Russia and everyone knows that bears walk the streets there and usually with balalaika. But seriously, why did they go to places where you can meet bears without taking a flare or pepper spray with them?
Saying hey bear while yelling louder in her mind somehow she thinks will make it go away
following? goes to show that majority of people know nothing about bears
Our ancestors from long ago would really wonder why we would hike into known predator habitat with our little vulnerable children.
Because the species is ______tarded.
People die from bee bites and car accidents way more than bear attacks. It's like a million to one. If we tried to eliminate every danger from our lives, we wouldn't be able to leave the house.
@@tonycarboni2002 Why go meet danger- the parents look pretty intelligent- NOT worth the risk.
@tonycarboni2002 there's a difference between inherent danger and inviting danger. If there are already significant dangers (like bees) as you say, why go into the woods and find more?
Also, your statistics is terrible. Bees kill more people because humans interact with them more. If people interacted with grizzlies in similar numbers, deaths by bears would explode.
In the U.S., every year, over 1000 people simply disappear in the wilderness.
They're not all dying from falls or drowning.
They ARE victims of predation.
They are eaten.
Period.
We had that same encounter yesterday at colony farms in Coquitlam BC
Was funny, a cyclist was riding by us and warned of two bears hanging out at the gate ahead, so I said, hell no, we go the other way then. Sure enough ,"the other way",ended up going back, that way... a loop lol
So, walking along, my friend stops me and there's the grass moving and here a head pokes out. I just about died...my heart rate. I am always terrified to run into bears and have my horn and bear spray with me. So the bear continued to come up towards us, at the point we started walking backwards and quietly complimenting the bear lol
He continued to follow us or walk behind us on the trail. There was another one sitting on the other side of the trail.
I was so freaked out...grabbing for my horn and spray. Praying to god this bear would just stop following us, because I have seen videos where the bear follows for a long time. I was just so worried that I could trip and that might startle it and then it may decide to charge. It was a really unique experience. It was both frightening and exilerating, to see such beauty in their natural habitat. But honestly, I don't want to go through that again lol
I am grateful they were good bears and not aggressive. It was scary!
Did you end up using the horn? I’m considering buying it to scare off bears that don’t respond to my voice, but are too far for spray.
Just a black bear walking on the trail… nothing to worry about
Bear spray at all time when walking in the back country it should be mandatory
I couldn't imagine how terrifying that would be having kids there
It's not very smart for parents to take their kids hiking in bear territory without bringing bear spray or a knife.
*Telling a bear in the woods to go home* *is maybe what he’s trying to tell you!*
Nature is humans home, just as much as it is the bears home.
Humans are an invasive species. We are destroying this planet and every living thing on it. The bears don't do that.....do they?@@gatorade1968
@@gatorade1968they don't understand nature. They only understand the liberal concept of nature, which is based on humans being evil and that people should stop breeding and going outside of cities.
U know, the BEAR IS HOME... look at the terrain, the bear is just walking on the only flat terrain around... he wasn't following mommy and daddy...
That is not normal bear behavior...bears kill and feed on the young of other animals.
I can just hear the bear's thoughts now, "for the love of Pete, would you shut your noisy sound maker!!! I'm just trying to travel through and you're giving me a bear of a headache!" 😂
You dont get it, bears are so ironic they just want to see how inteligent people are
1) Bring protection. Whether it's bear spray, a gun, or a bullhorn.
2) Familiarize yourself with it. Know how to use it, and make sure its loaded / charged. Know how to take the safety off, take it out the plastic wrap, etc...
3) Keep it accesible. Many people have been attacked even though they packed bear spray. Problem is that it was in the bottom of their backpack, or it was clipped on their belt, but they didn't know how to take the safety off.
4) Don't go where there have been bear sightings recently.
5) Don't run - it triggers their instinct to chase you. You can't out-run or out-climb a bear.
At 35mph top speed that Bear could close distance fast.
The kid asking “can we play dead now?” Rotfl
Why are you voicing it like a "come here call"?
That sounds like how people call their dogs. It's no wonder it kept coming.
Everyone has advice sitting on their couch…😏
Hay bear. The kind that cut hay and stack it in the barn. Very polite and hard-working bear.
The bear is like hey buddy get lost, all the women chose me.
Even if you don’t like fire arms, have you heard of firecrackers?
Bottle rockets work really well also
I only came for the plot twist.
I wouldn’t go in bear and cougar country without a firearm and spray especially when I have my family with me
that bear is not stalking anyone at all. It's just using the trail for travel. A stalking black bear move much closer and exhibit other signs such as running in different directions, climbing trees and making noises. Here's a video of an actual stalking black bear: ua-cam.com/video/JoS37cNbT7w/v-deo.html

Women dont have deep enough voices or aggressive enough instinct. You need to literally scare the shit out of a black bear if you see one so they see you as a threat.
Bear would follows them because he thought that they will give a snack. But dull minded are dull minded
Did they ever find their remains?
The bear is like hey didnu know if u u give me food ill leave im frensly but u keep yelling hey while i yell heyyy back lol
If the bear wants you, you are dead. The bear wants to use the trail. GET OUT OF ITS WAY.

So what happened after this?
😂 The bear was like “ Hey I can hear you loud and clear, so HEY right back atcha! Let me catch up and we can chat about the creepy ponytail dude that’s been following me for the last hour !”
Always bring bear spray or a firearm while hiking in well known bear areas, this could have been tragic!
Bear spray? Guns!
No bear spray?
Bear spray isn’t as good as you think
Ok, first things first, bears don't eat people. So they weren't in real danger.
2nd, the bear probably had experience of people throwing food at it to leave them alone. This is why they say don't feed the bears.
Go Home Bear
Bear: iam Home 😂
Her high pitched voice repeatedly raised may well sound like an animal in trouble!
So how does the story end? Did anything happen?
The family lost the phone in the woods, the bear found it and posted the video on UA-cam.
