Beloved by the beat poets Hermann Hesse (Steppenwolf, Siddartha, the Glass Bead Game) grew up in Germany and Switzerland, grandchild of Christian Missionaries stationed in India and spent his life see sawing between Christianity, Buddishm and the fashionable gnosticism of the western occult.
His lifelong commitiment to pacifism and quiet detachment from politics led him often into conflict with the militarism of his home country and ultimatly saw his books banned by the Nazis after he supported and publicised the works of the Jewish surrealist writer, Franz Kafka.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1946.
This Audiobook was produced, recorded and filmed by the Wright Brothers in 2020.
The soundtrack contains manipulated elements of "La Tango Perpetual" and "Vexations" by Erik Satie and "La Mamounia Theme" by Bliss (2013)

I love the variation of accents to emphasise the two characters . Hermann Hesse was a wonderful author . I wonder if he had experienced something in his life which shaped his thoughts and writings ?

So, the idol without was the man or a symbol of him. He realizes that the idol is within him, and it was what he had admired all along, before he went to see his friend. I didn't like the final sentence about "be its master."
