To me this YN 685 is well worth the price and I highly recommend it. But the more manual flashes are a bit cheaper and worth it as well! Buy the flash here: Bhphoto: Nikon- bhpho.to/2tb9sqP Canon- bhpho.to/2tbFS5d Amazon: Canon- amzn.to/2tbsRs7 Nikon- amzn.to/2u5khrn
Eric Rossi hey! I have a question; I can get this flash (new) or the Nikon SB-800 (used) for about the same price.. Wich one do you recommend? Thank you!
Another great video Eric, you're my go-to for gear reviews now. I'm going to buy this flash on the strength of your review - it'll be perfect for the clothing shoots I do.
Went to the store. Had the 560IV, 660 and 685 laid out. Picked up the 685, thanks to you! Now, I hope I'm able to do justice to the images I plan to shoot.
Hi Eric, after watching this video I just bought Yongnuo 685. Its a lovely flashgun and I have done a couple of weddings with it. Thanks for the review. Love
Might get one of these just for the high speed sync function. Ive used the Yongnuo YN560 Mk lll's for a few years and recently added a YN 560TX transmitter which is great too. Also have an old YN560 Mkll and even a YN460 slave unit too, both still working perfectly, no idea why anyone would pay 4 times as much for a Canon/Nikon Speedlight. Great video Eric.
I have two of these and use them with the Godox 960 and 820 external power packs, massively cuts down on recycle time and you can use them all day no problem. Superb for me, but I'm not a wedding photographer and the most images I've had out of them in a 16 hour period is about 1200 images and that was very much a one off. I'd recommend them, and experience says they are pretty tough too (I'm a very clumsy person). I like using them with the Godox umbrella soft box with tracing paper as an extra level of diffusion, you can get some beautiful soft light from them. The yn622tx also fires the yn622 so you can use the yn622tx to trigger older speedlights on a different channel or (as I do) trigger cheaper studio strobes in conjunction with your yn685s. Great review, can't disagree with a single word.
with yn685 just looking some help because I'm not sure where else to turn whenever i take a picture the flash takes awhile like 20-30seconds if not longer before its ready to fire again
Yes I tried both auto zoom and manual. As well as different metering modes. I really wanted this to work. A few others have had similar issues after I googled it. I shoot canon. Happens on both 5Diii and 6D. Thanks for the reply.
Hi. I know this video Has been out for a while but I have this flash and can’t seem to enable high speed sync. Any suggestions…. Please. I also am using the same transmitas well.
I used to use Yongnuo speedlights until they started failing and overheating on me. I had 4 of them but eventually they all started failing. I switched to the Godox v860ii which have been amazing and much more reliable. Built in transmitter/receiver and TTL as well.
I want to be able to use 4 flashes and also to wireless remote control the camera. Is it possible ? I got 70D camera. What flashes to buy and what transmitter to get and how would I connect a wireless trigger to take the shot so that those 4 flashes will fire controlled by the camera ? Thanks.
Amazing videos , really nice and detailed! But I just bought this flash and can't really seem to put it in optical slave mode! Can you please tell me what to do? Or is there any solution for off camera triggering without a transmitter like yn622c-tx ! Thanks
Question, I have YN560 TX Pro, but it only works (far as I know) with RF603 slave mode, and I can't figure out how to use HSS, and if i can use it, any tips? Thanks.
Presently I'm using the 2 YN 560III with the YN560-TX. My question is can I use the YN560-TX with the YN685......OR....WIll the YN622N-TX operate my YN560 III ? Nice review, Thanks
Hello. I presently own 2 YN560III, 1YN560IV and a YN685 for Nikon. I have used the RF603II (just like Eric) as well as the YN560-TX for all of them. Of course I got the YN622N-TX to have it fully compatible with the YN622N-TX for HSS. When using the 560-TX, change the mode to 603 slave. But to answer the latter part of your question, I agree with Eric that the YN622N-TX does not natively operate the YN560III or IV.
Looked to see if this was previously asked, but did not see it... Can the YN685 trigger YN560IV flashes? I have three YN560IV flashes and love how easy they are to use, but was frustrated by not having the focus assist for low light. I bought the YN685 thinking that I could use it on my camera as the transmitter on my camera to trigger the YN560IVs as receivers, but am having difficulty figuring it out.
I dont have mine at the moment as a friend as rented it long term but mine didnt beep. I'd check the manual to see if you can turn off sound if thats what you mean.
Was just wondering if you were going to make a video setting up the hss? I bought this flash and the 622 TX for my nikon d750 and I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up the hss. and I really enjoy your videos by the way.
Sorry if this is a silly question but do I only need 1 Yongnuo YN-622C-TX-E-TTL wireless flash controller to put on my Canon 5d Mark IV to control 2 Yongnuo YN685 GN60? Or do I also need to get 2 of the Yongnuo YN-622C wireless ETTL flash trigger receiver transmitter transceivers. Sorry I just want to be sure I don't buy more than I need or less than I need. Thank you so much. Shelly
I have the older YN568EX that had major problems with the battery door. The door broke from the pressure of the battery's... Does this new Yongnuo YN685 also have issues with the battery door ?
Great video Eric, good product review I was considering adding at least 2 flash units in my gear I think this is the right one for me. great price too. Kudos bro nice presentation ......Oh and BTW, these flash units look so good on that Nikon of yours. Waiting for your Canon 6d mark II specs comments. (No 4 K and single card slot).....Give us your view.
Might be a stupid question but let me hazard it anyway: If I leave my YN685 on TTL and shoot in a low light situation, might it not always be firing in high power and thus overheat? Thank you.
Hey Eric this was right on time for me, you are the man!!! I'm getting ready to buy in two weeks, I was looking at getting 2 of these with the same trigger as you have. The one thing that you might have forgot to mention and I'm sure you will cover in a later review is the HV port on the side. There should be a regular sync port as well. The HV port allows you to use an external battery pack, with the flashes and it might bring the recycle time down to 1 second. The way the Battery pack works is it controls the power and the batteries in the flash control the display. I was looking to buy a used sb800 or a sb910, skipping the sb900 because of the heating issues. Where there any heating issues with the Yongnuo? Thanks for doing this Eric and do some more research on that HV Port. Thanks and I'm looking to get the Bolt Cyclone DR PP-400DR Dual Outlet Power Pack, which will power two flashes.
Hey Eric!!! I have a question for you in regards to my DSLR camera and lens issues. I'm a relative beginner with a little hobby for taking pictures so I apologise if my questions sounds relatively dumb or stupid. So I was hoping if you could clarify it for me. Right I own a Nikon d7200 for over a year now. And I've been purchasing second hand lenses to try out different things. Now, I was really interested in Astro photography so I did my research and considering I'm on a budget from my part time job i bought a Samyang 16mm F2 lens. Now the issue I'm having with this lens is the first error code you covered in a previous video. The fEE error. Now your 100% right about the fact that if you switch it to maximum aperture the lens works. However this is my questions. What if I want the lower aperture?? Now this maybe a silly question and I did my research online and people said that you can manually adjust the aperture from the camera whilst leaving the lens at f22. Okay but what i wanted to know is how is that even possible to adjust the aperture from the camera. When you physically turn the aperture ring to a lower F number you can see the blades open so as to allow more light to enter. But the blades don't adjust when you manually change the aperture from the camera dial do they? Or am I wrong? I do adjust it and listen for a noise but I can't hear anything. I'm not even sure if I've explained this correctly so if I haven't let me know and I will explain. Sorry about this. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you very much Eric
I had the same issue with my Nikon 50mm f1.8. turns out that what you see in the viewfinder is not what will the camera take. the blades do close. Having said that i am not sure about your lens but try it out on some shots with aperture wide open and closed and see what comes out. my 2c
I just bought a yn685 for Nikon, and when you turn the flash on, it stays on the Yongnuo "splash screen" if not mounted on the camera. When mounted on the camera it turns on and goes to the normal menu/settings screen just fine. Just wondering if this is by design?
Excellent video bud thanks. Just a quick question though? This YN685 dos not need transceiver for using it off camera for HSS? if I understood correctly
Hey Eric, just saw the video-awesome! I'm looking at my YN685s and when I go through the menu there is no "signal" choice only the "slave indicator". I've been using Yongnou transmitters/receivers to sync my units. Do you think it's an older version?
I have read about a fault with the yn685 which makes the flash only fire on full power and that yongnuo support is vvvvvvery slowwwww? Should I be put off by this?
Hmm I havent run into that or heard about the full power thing. I also never had to contact their support and havent heard much. My guess is their support may not be the best since its international, but these flashes are very affordable and easy to replace. It would probably cost just as much to repair as to getting a new one. I shoot weddings professionally and I use these flashes, so I wouldnt be put off. But if you want to be comfortable, just look into the flash from your cameras brand.
My Yongnuo 685 stopped flashing with Remote Control. Communication is O.K. Test Flash both with Remote Transmitter and On Flash Works. But when I press the shutter, it won't flash. Batteries are new. Can anyone help and know why? Thank you!
thank you Eric. I didn't want to erase my issue. Although I've found the reason. I have 'deactivated my built in flash on my Nikon. That ultimately caused not even firing the remote transmitter as well'
I bought one of these and it will underexposed by 2 stops at times. Particularly when zoomed to about 70mm on my 24-70. Any advice. I'm an experienced speedlight guy.
Maybe a dumb question, but will the AF assist beam work outside of TTL mode? (I've read that some flashes won't let you. I like having manual control.)
The 685 has weak battery doors. They stop locking after several months. Ebay has new doors for 4 or 5 bucks each. UA-cam has videos on how to replace. It took far longer to watch the video and find the little screwdriver than it did to change both doors.
Hey Eric, love Your vids, especially this one about the yn685, because I just bought 2. In this vid you tell us there is a separate vid where you work with the yn685 in HSS. Where is that video? I can’t find it. Please share me the correct link. Thx 🙏
Sadly that video never got made lol. I never had a chance to get to HSS. I'll write it down and see if I can work it into a feature video. Sorry about that
best value flash. bought it a month ago. loving it. but i wish the flash head could move all the way to bounce light off a surface from behind. but surprisingly if u compare the power with yn 568ex the flash intensity at 1/1 is slightly lower even with a higher GN. however its a must buy. Great video....👍
I think I'm going to pass on that one. I spend my own money on these flashes, but the 968 is getting awful reviews. So I'm not going to take a hit on that one.
Eric, I just want to confirm.... if I have the 622n-tx on my camera body, it will remotely control 685's without the 685's being on a trigger or receiver? Thanks for your help!
Hello , i have Nikon d750 and bought 2 YN685 external flashes. I got YN622 Transmitter to use them both at the same time while on stands. I got the opportunity to do some nightclub photography and was wondering how can i use them both at the same time. Obviously at the club i wont be able to use stands and stuff like that, and i can hold one in my hand with the transmitter on the top of the camera, but i want to use both at the same time. My questions is, any way i can put one of the flashes on my camera and that flash to trigger the other flash which would be in my hand. I know some flashes can be triggered by another flash but was wondering if this is possible with my YN685.
why couldnt you use them at the club? A common thing for events and weddings, is to set up flashes on stands in the corners of a room so it helps with the ambient light. But I wouldnt be using two flashes at once if not really needed. I would just use one flash then. But yes, you can have one of the flashes on your camera and the other on a stand somewhere and set that one to slave mode.
Hi Eric, awesome review. thank you! Can the YN685 be used mounted on camera and work as a master to trigger off camera flashes? there is a lot of reviews and some people talk about compatibility issues with some other Yongnuo flashes/triggers. Thanks again
Yes but depends. It depends on the settings of the other flashes if they can be set to slave. This flash usually is off camera and triggered by something else on camera, like a yongnuo flash trigger. It supportd for the YN-622N & RF-603/YN-560.
Hi Eric, hi guys, great review! I'm planning to buy this speedlight but I'm just a little concerned as on the Amazon description my camera it's not mentioned between the compatibilities. Would that work with my Nikon D800 if I use it off-camera with a 622N-TX transmitter ? I really need it ! Thank uuuuu !
I really want to like YN flashes, but it has a major issue with the Nikon version: It fires a pre-flash even in manual mode (TTL on flash, M mode in 622TX). It means unless you have a really high end lightmeter that can ignore preflash then you can't get an accurate exposure. It also means a bit of power is wasted on pre-flash.
hi eric . thanks for the video i have d750 . i want to buy flash . may be Yongnuo YN685 . i'm also wedding photographer ,how many shoot can you make with one set battery 2700 mAh ?? and i see the Guide number for Yongnuo YN685 is 60 , and for Nikon SB-700 is 28 . thats means YN685 better then SB-700 ?
these 3rd party flashes are great and a killer deal. on my channel I did a comparison of flash zoom head noise. I purchased a Shanny flash to use with a cheap external power pack for wedding and I was a little disappointed at the high pitch sound it makes when the zoom head moves. all my Nikon flash heads are pretty quite, at least they don't make that high pitch sound. I still love my Shanny, power house, flash but will not be using it for a wedding ceremony. maybe you can do a sound test with your flashes.
I normally dont move the zoom head a ton, but even if its loud I dont think its that big of deal. I normally just set it and forget it. But yeah some of these make some noise!
I cant speak a ton about Godox yet, as I havent used them a ton. So I cant compare. Both have pros and cons I'm sure. Not sure what you mean about using both? I would just be in one system, not in both.
Hey Eric. I bought this flash after watching your video and I like it. The only problem I have is that it's really hard to get it on the camera and even harder to get it off. I feel like on of these days i'm going to ether break my new D850 or the YN685. Is your copy like this too or there is something wrong with the one i have?
Awesome! Hmm I havent heard of it having a tight foot, not to ask a dumb question, but is the foots lock partially engaged? Have the metal prongs of the hot shoe on the D850 bent a little inward?
Eric Rossi I unlocked the flash before putting it on the camera, but it's really hard to push it all the way in. however video lights get mounted really easy. the flash is amazing, but i think i got a bad copy. i can't find a video on UA-cam where someone puts the flash on or takes it off to be sure if i got a bad one. thanks for responding btw.
Eric Rossi Thanks for your honesty. One question.I have one iTTL speedlight and one without TTL. I want to shoot a portrait with the non TTL speedlight as a rim light(behind the model) but the main flash in TTL mode.Do you think is possible? Will the non TTL speedlight work? thank you !
hey Eric thanks for all the great content you make just just had a quick question. how well did this flash connect directly to your hot shoe of your d750? I recently bought a neewer Flash and the IT TL part of The Flash doesn't talk to my camera.
Hi, I was just looking at the YN968N TTL for Nikon. What's your opinion on this speedlight? Also, I hear that this flash is slave only, is this accurate, thanks?
Hi! I’m new to the flash photography world and am considering purchasing this flash. Would it be possible for me to use a shutter speed higher than 1/250th for outdoor use while the flash is mounted on my canon 70d? Thank you in advance.
Sorry, Eric but yes, the YN685 alone on top of the 70D can be fired at HSS. I just did that a minute ago ( I wanted to be sure). Set the HSS in the FLASH CONTROL menu of the 70D, set the SHUTTER @ 1/8000 and fire away!
hi im super new on this, so my question is i have a olympus omd em10 mk II, and i want a flash like this one but only can find for nikon or canon .. can still use this one? what features i will loose or which ones can still use? can i put on top of the camera ? it will communicate electronically? Im mostly into use it as wireless flash triggered by my camera flash... there is another budget good option for olympus? thanks , good channel.
Great questions. So most flash brands are specific to cameras. But there are some brands that can work universal, like Godox or Yongnuo. So yeah it'll work!
Hi... Little question ... I own the yn622c non TX triggers... Is this a problem of it works fine? Need to know for sure before i buy , that's why ,.. Greetz from Belgium 👌
Eric Rossi yes... The commander on the camera without the TX but the normal yn622c. I use my camera to change settings of my flash ... That's why i don't need the yn622c-tx. So it Will work than ? Greetz
ok great, got it. Yes! The yn 685 has a built in receiver that is Compatible with YN-622C, YN-622C-TX, YN560 IV flash, YN560-TX, RF-605, RF-603 III, and RF-603
I asked this question on your 660 reveiw by mistake, but I should have asked it here (sorry about that): Which transmitter do you recommend for the YN-685 that controls the HSS function? Or does it work from in-camera?
I got one ... hope it lasts ... lots of horrible popping sounds. Not every flash but enough to be a concern. It is certainly powerful. For the price I am still not complaining. I'll consider it a bargin if it only lasts a couple of years before the capacitors blow up. I am assuming it is a cheap component fault.
I'm looking at the Godox/Flashpoint ones now as well as their new XPro trigger, not that there is anything wrong with the YN622C trigger system for the home hobbyist. I just like the bigger slanted screen : ) Well for future when this one dies. I'm a home hobbyist so its not like I use the flash every day, but want a third speedlite ... or that bigger A600 thingie? Why .. who knows, because I can :)
I ordered this setup 3 weeks ago !I have had the YN560iv 6 months ago and its good enough but not great!getting the Godox TT685S this christmas and sees if its just as good or if not better as some say!!!!
Hi Eric I am new in DSLR photography and have few questions which may be obvious for you about wireless Yongnuo flash operation with Nikon camera. 1) Does YN685 support HSS when using it's built-in receiver and a YN622 TX trigger on camera? 2) Will the HSS flash functionality make any sense on a beginner body like d3300 without Auto FP functionality? Or it's worth buying a HSS flash if I plan to upgrade to a d7200 or d7500 body with Auto FP support in future? 3) If I use off camera flash outdoors in slow sync do I need iTTL support? If it is not so essential I could buy RF 603 trigger and receiver? Does RF 603 support rear curtain sync? Many thanks, Victor
1. Yes, the 685 works with the 622, as shown in this video. 2. Yes, HSS doesnt rely on the camera per say, you dont need to set anything as long as you are using the wireless triggers. For example, you can not just put the flash on top of the camera and use HSS. You need to have it external. 3. TTL is up to you, I feel using it on manual and learning how flashes work produce better results then relying on TTL. And the 603/605 series do not support HSS.
Eric Rossi many thanks! Now I can't decide what to choose yn 685 + 622 kit or godox tt685n + x1t-n kit. Both have TTL and HSS. Both kits cost around 140 euro. Any suggestions?
To me this YN 685 is well worth the price and I highly recommend it. But the more manual flashes are a bit cheaper and worth it as well!
Buy the flash here:

Eric Rossi hey! I have a question; I can get this flash (new) or the Nikon SB-800 (used) for about the same price.. Wich one do you recommend? Thank you!
Hey Eric , can I use this flash with canon 6D ? I saw the descriptions on Amazon and on the compatible list the 6D is not there ..
What do you recomend This yn 685 or yn 660
Id go with the SB800, sorry just seeing this. These comments dont always pop up.
you can, just make sure to get the Canon model. I've put it on the 6D Mark 2 and 5D Mark IV
Thank you! This video really explained the use of the YN685 TTL HSS flash with the YN-622C-TX controller. Cheers!
Thank you, glad it did!
Another great video Eric, you're my go-to for gear reviews now. I'm going to buy this flash on the strength of your review - it'll be perfect for the clothing shoots I do.
and its an honor, I appreciate you enjoying how I review things. Its well worth a buy, quality is high end for the price point and its features
Went to the store. Had the 560IV, 660 and 685 laid out. Picked up the 685, thanks to you! Now, I hope I'm able to do justice to the images I plan to shoot.
congrats, an awesome flash for the price!
Thanks, Eric! I'd be happy to share a couple of images that I took using the flash. It's pretty neat.
My flash at tines beeps and the back screen show P.L. & wont fire .
Yes it is mounted correctly
ANY IDEAS ??
Hi Eric, after watching this video I just bought Yongnuo 685. Its a lovely flashgun and I have done a couple of weddings with it. Thanks for the review. Love
thank you and glad you enjoy it, for the price, its an awesome flash!
I just bought 2 for $300 AUD, I really like them.
So if the 560 is a bit older, why do you prefer that over the 685 which is larger and newer?
I used this flash with controller, is fantastic flash...andd never overheats.
Might get one of these just for the high speed sync function. Ive used the Yongnuo YN560 Mk lll's for a few years and recently added a YN 560TX transmitter which is great too.
Also have an old YN560 Mkll and even a YN460 slave unit too, both still working perfectly, no idea why anyone would pay 4 times as much for a Canon/Nikon Speedlight.

thanks Sid, yeah its a cheap price for HSS that works.

yeah Yongnuo and Godox makes pretty good flashes imo
Mark Harris I just picked one and it overheated before 2 hours shooting in TTL. Already happened to you?
with yn685 just looking some help because I'm not sure where else to turn whenever i take a picture the flash takes awhile like 20-30seconds if not longer before its ready to fire again
what camera are you using and also whats the flash power?
Yes I tried both auto zoom and manual. As well as different metering modes. I really wanted this to work. A few others have had similar issues after I googled it. I shoot canon. Happens on both 5Diii and 6D. Thanks for the reply.
hmm I havent heard much, maybe its a flaw with the unit
quick question. How do I set the 685 to slave mode? I m not talking about the 603 or 622. the slave itself.
Hi. I know this video
Has been out for a while but I have this flash and can’t seem to enable high speed sync. Any suggestions…. Please. I also am using the same transmitas well.
Esse flash possui luz de foco?
I used to use Yongnuo speedlights until they started failing and overheating on me. I had 4 of them but eventually they all started failing. I switched to the Godox v860ii which have been amazing and much more reliable. Built in transmitter/receiver and TTL as well.
Interesting, never heard of a ton of issues. But Godox is another decent brand, but I havent had much luck with them actually lol.

Hello friend.
Can you activate this flash with built in flash on my Nikon D750 camera?
Hello, is this speedlight compatible with a godox trigger?
it is not
Can I use pocket wizard to attach with it and with my camera for Transmit and receive?
Yup, it has a pc sync port
Question, I have YN560 TX Pro, but it only works (far as I know) with RF603 slave mode, and I can't figure out how to use HSS, and if i can use it, any tips? Thanks.

Natively, i dont think they are.
Hello. I presently own 2 YN560III, 1YN560IV and a YN685 for Nikon. I have used the RF603II (just like Eric) as well as the YN560-TX for all of them. Hey Erci thanks for this video. I would like to see the video about the HSS!
thanks, ill do my best to make one soon!
So which one is better this one or the 660?
All depends on what you are looking for, mainly if you need HSS
Can the Yongnuo YN-622N Wireless i-TTL trigger the YN685 in HSS?
Do you have any advice on how to turn off the beep on this flash?
I dont have mine at the moment as a friend as rented it long term but mine didnt beep. I'd check the manual to see if you can turn off sound if thats what you mean.
Was just wondering if you were going to make a video setting up the hss? I bought this flash and the 622 TX for my nikon d750 and I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up the hss. and I really enjoy your videos by the way.
Yup I will try to soon in the next few weeks! Just some gear and topics I need to catch up with first but yes its on the list
Thank you because I can not get mine to show hss at all. I've done everything I can think of!
Bradley Curtwright does this flash work without transmitter. It only with built in flash on Nikon?
Sorry if this is a silly question but do I only need 1 Yongnuo YN-622C-TX-E-TTL wireless flash controller to put on my Canon 5d Mark IV to control 2 Yongnuo YN685 GN60? Or do I also need to get 2 of the Yongnuo YN-622C wireless ETTL flash trigger receiver transmitter transceivers. Sorry I just want to be sure I don't buy more than I need or less than I need. Thank you so much.

correct, the trigger is built into the 685, so you only need one for the camera!
@@Eric_Rossi Awesome! Thanks!👍
Thanks for this video... Would hss works when this speedlight is mounted on the camera?
I have the same question, if someone find out answer us please
I have the older YN568EX that had major problems with the battery door. The door broke from the pressure of the battery's... Does this new Yongnuo YN685 also have issues with the battery door ?
nothing I've noticed of heard of yet
Great video Eric, good product review I was considering adding at least 2 flash units in my gear I think this is the right one for me. great price too. Kudos bro nice presentation ......Oh and BTW, these flash units look so good on that Nikon of yours. Waiting for your Canon 6d mark II specs comments. (No 4 K and single card slot).....Give us your view.
Once its fully announced I'm going to make a vid on it, they keep adding one or two things. It'll be a popular camera so I want that to be 100%.
Eric Rossi wisely so bro well said
So what do you suggest at the end for begginers and low budgets.
Depends, do you want a manual flash? One thats automatic and does ttl? Whats the budget?
@@Eric_Rossi honestly I know nothing I just started classes
what camera do you have?
@@Eric_Rossi Canon 750 D and thank you so much
check out this flash: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1187134-REG/yongnuo_yn685_wireless_ttl_speedlite.html/BI/20259/KBID/14674/kw/YOYN685
Might be a stupid question but let me hazard it anyway: If I leave my YN685 on TTL and shoot in a low light situation, might it not always be firing in high power and thus overheat? Thank you.
that would also come down to battery life as well, but I havent heard about these overheating much or blowing out bulbs
Mr. Eric Rossi - Thank you for your kind reply. It is reassuring.
Do you have anything to say about the AF assist lamp? Does it bother you or it doesn't matter?
I turn it off
Hey Eric this was right on time for me, you are the man!!! Thanks and I'm looking to get the Bolt Cyclone DR PP-400DR Dual Outlet Power Pack, which will power two flashes.
does this flash have model light
it does not
Good job. How do I set HSS for Nikon?
you set it on the flash and the wireless triggers
Having said that i am not sure about your lens but try it out on some shots with aperture wide open and closed and see what comes out. my 2c
Can I use this flash on canon 5d mark 4?
yes
I just bought a yn685 for Nikon, and when you turn the flash on, it stays on the Yongnuo "splash screen" if not mounted on the camera. When mounted on the camera it turns on and goes to the normal menu/settings screen just fine. Just wondering if this is by design?
hmm havent heard of that happening, mine turns on and goes to the menu right away
can you control the YNN685 flash while the other yn685 is mounted on camera?
sure, you can set it to slave mode and when the flash on camera it will slave and trigger!
The rf603 does not trigger the hss on that flash?
sadly not
how do you turn off the sound??
of?
Will it work on my nikond7100?
yup!
Thank you.
How does this compare to Canon 580EX II? Power and build etc?
its a bit more powerful and can do HSS.
Excellent video bud thanks. Just a quick question though? This YN685 dos not need transceiver for using it off camera for HSS? if I understood correctly
You do need both the trigger and flash to have HSS for it to work.
Hey Eric, just saw the video-awesome! I'm looking at my YN685s and when I go through the menu there is no "signal" choice only the "slave indicator". I've been using Yongnou transmitters/receivers to sync my units. Do you think it's an older version?
I think you mean signal like the channels the wireless flash triggers connect with? Would that be what you mean?
@@Eric_Rossi Right about 3:21, you say the "signal option". On my flash there is no signal option.
Thank you!
which remote?
thank you Eric.
Your zoom is set to match near focal length as well? I didnt find it being that under, it pretty much was spot on.
Maybe a dumb question, but will the AF assist beam work outside of TTL mode? (I've read that some flashes won't let you. I like having manual control.)
Looks like a good flash! I hope they make something with HSS for Fuji soon!
The other manual flashes will work but yeah i dont think they will sadly
The 685 has weak battery doors. They stop locking after several months. Ebay has new doors for 4 or 5 bucks each. UA-cam has videos on how to replace. It took far longer to watch the video and find the little screwdriver than it did to change both doors.
Which it's better in your opinion, the 660 or the 685? You seam to be more exited about the 660 based on your video review.
Thank you.
All depends if you want ttl or hss, if so you need the 685. If not, I like the 560 4
Hey Eric, love Your vids, especially this one about the yn685, because I just bought 2.
Yours doesnt turn 270 degrees?
Eric Rossi is it supposed to ? no it dosent . i guess i need to send it back maybe there is some problem.
Your videos on Yongnuo flashes are very informative. Do you know if there is an external battery pack to use with YN685 to help with faster recycle?
I cant 100% confirm, but it says it should for the 685. Look up the Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack
Waiting for your Yongnuo 968n Flash review!!!
I think I'm going to pass on that one. I spend my own money on these flashes, but the 968 is getting awful reviews. So I'm not going to take a hit on that one.
Eric Rossi --- gotcha, thanks for info.
anytime!
Can this do HSS on Nikon d500
Yes, it doesnt matter the camera model, mainly if the flash itself and the trigger used can do HSS
@@Eric_Rossi is there any option that can do hss and rear curtain with just the flash on camera and not trigger etc? (for canon), even a manual one
Eric, I just want to confirm.... if I have the 622n-tx on my camera body, it will remotely control 685's without the 685's being on a trigger or receiver? Thanks for your help!
correct, the 685 has a built in receiver
I really want to like YN flashes, but it has a major issue with the Nikon version:
It fires a pre-flash even in manual mode (TTL on flash, M mode in 622TX). It means unless you have a really high end lightmeter that can ignore preflash then you can't get an accurate exposure. It also means a bit of power is wasted on pre-flash.
Really? I've used Yongnuo flashes on Nikon camera for the past 3 years. Never had a pre flash issue
Eric Rossi what set up do you use?
I use the YN 560 mark iv or this flash on the Nikon D750, Canon 5D Mark IV and the Fuji X Pro 2
Hey man great review!
Is this also compatible with the nikon d700?
yes it is!
has it is given you any problems in multi mode?
I've had zero problems!
excuse me. what yn568ex ii (not yn568) can work with yn622c-tx?
i dont think it does, with the 622, the 560 mark iii/iv, 660 and 685 works with it.
thank you brother
So awesome Thank you so much!!! finally decided to get this flash!
anytime!
hi eric . thanks for the video
i have d750 . i want to buy flash . may be Yongnuo YN685 . i'm also wedding photographer ,how many shoot can you make with one set battery 2700 mAh ?? and i see the Guide number for Yongnuo YN685 is 60 , and for Nikon SB-700 is 28 . thats means YN685 better then SB-700 ?
All depends but roughly 200-300. Just comes down to flash power being used etc..
these 3rd party flashes are great and a killer deal. on my channel I did a comparison of flash zoom head noise.
Hi i need an opinion from you. what is best godox or yn ? can i use yn685 with godox tt685? please explain it fast
I cant speak a ton about Godox yet, as I havent used them a ton. So I cant compare. Both have pros and cons I'm sure. Not sure what you mean about using both? I would just be in one system, not in both.
thanks for your videos. very informative.
question, is this the best flash for off camera HSS in the Yongnuo line?
yes!
Can you tell if it is fully compatible with the Canon 6D mark II? No issues known?
as long as you get the Canon version, you are set.
Thank you!
It's worth it.. I got a 60d, 6d, and 70d and it does wonders .
I have Sony A6300 camera. If I buy this flash Yongnuo YN685, does it fit in shoe and works 100%?
I havent personally tested it, but it should yes.
Eric Rossi Is this flash the latest model by YN?
they do have a newer one, I believe, but its not that good from the reviews and such
Scatto con una Nikon d750, e con un flash yn568ex , ho difficoltà con AF in discoteca quando è buio , questo flash migliorerebbe AF con il suo aiuto ?
yes flash would be able to help in dark environments if you bounce it
Hey Eric,i bought the Neewer NW910 for 60 pounds brand new...Is this Yongnuo similar?
I know Neewer products but not much on the quality of their flashes.
Eric Rossi Thanks for your honesty. One question.I have one iTTL speedlight and one without TTL. I want to shoot a portrait with the non TTL speedlight as a rim light(behind the model) but the main flash in TTL mode.Do you think is possible? Will the non TTL speedlight work?
thank you !
Sure, it just of course wont adjust to your settings You just have to set it manually.
Eric Rossi Thank you!
mean while 3.5 k Dslr doesn't have dot matrix top display
It seems the 685 is the only Yongnuo that inherently includes a 622TX receiver. I don't think that's true of the 560IV.
yeah the 560 wouldnt work with that
I've got the 685 and the 622c-tx, if I buy a strobe that is canon rf compatible would the controller work with it?
You would need a Yongnuo trigger
hey Eric thanks for all the great content you make just just had a quick question. how well did this flash connect directly to your hot shoe of your d750? I recently bought a neewer Flash and the IT
TL part of The Flash doesn't talk to my camera.
it fits very well into the hot shoe, no issues there!
Hi, I was just looking at the YN968N TTL for Nikon. What's your opinion on this speedlight? Also, I hear that this flash is slave only, is this accurate, thanks?
I have never used that or heard much about it, but I would probably look into this one
Hi, thank you for your very quick response! Great video by the way.
thank you!
Thank you Eric!
Hi! I’m new to the flash photography world and am considering purchasing this flash. Would it be possible for me to use a shutter speed higher than 1/250th for outdoor use while the flash is mounted on my canon 70d? Thank you in advance.
on camera never, you need to have a flash and triggers that offer high speed sync
Sorry, Eric but yes, the YN685 alone on top of the 70D can be fired at HSS. I just did that a minute ago ( I wanted to be sure). Set the HSS in the FLASH CONTROL menu of the 70D, set the SHUTTER @ 1/8000 and fire away!
wheres the follow video on hss?
still to come sometime early for 2018
hi im super new on this, so my question is i have a olympus omd em10 mk II, and i want a flash like this one but only can find for nikon or canon .. can still use this one? what features i will loose or which ones can still use? can i put on top of the camera ? it will communicate electronically? Im mostly into use it as wireless flash triggered by my camera flash... there is another budget good option for olympus? thanks , good channel.
Great questions. So most flash brands are specific to cameras. But there are some brands that can work universal, like Godox or Yongnuo. So yeah it'll work!
Hello I just want to ask sir if YN-685 HSS is working if i direct put it in the hot shoe or it requires Yn622 Tx transmitter? Thanks sir
yeah you would need the transmitter for it to work. If you had it on the hot shoe, your camera is limited to most likely 250 or 320th extended
AS far as Im aware the yn685 will work fine on the hot shoe of a Nikon or Canon camera as the flash has HSS built into it.
Hi... Little question ... I own the yn622c non TX triggers... Is this a problem of it works fine? Need to know for sure before i buy , that's why ,.. Greetz from Belgium 👌
not sure what you mean the non triggers? they yn622 c or n are transcievers
Eric Rossi ow srry for the confusion... Ik Mean i don't have the TX version but the normal yn622c
oh I think I know what you mean. Like you just have the commander that goes on the camera?
Eric Rossi yes... The commander on the camera without the TX but the normal yn622c. I use my camera to change settings of my flash ... That's why i don't need the yn622c-tx. So it Will work than ? Greetz
ok great, got it. Yes! The yn 685 has a built in receiver that is Compatible with YN-622C, YN-622C-TX, YN560 IV flash, YN560-TX, RF-605, RF-603 III, and RF-603
Hai Eric can you help me ..i wish to use this flash in slave mode ..
Just put that camera in slave mode, use your on camera flash!
Was surprised to realize my 685 doesn't have optical triggering
Thanks Eric regards from South Africa
I have two because they are good up to 200mm. I also have yn622-tx. Controller. Great!
It's a awesome flash.. the only downfall is it will burn out if you keep repeatly keep shooting without breaks..
Great review. Thanks again!
glad to help man!
I asked this question on your 660 reveiw by mistake, but I should have asked it here (sorry about that):
Which transmitter do you recommend for the YN-685 that controls the HSS function? Or does it work from in-camera?
the 622 like mentioned in this video!
Thanks!
I got one ... hope it lasts ... lots of horrible popping sounds. Not every flash but enough to be a concern. It is certainly powerful.
For the price I am still not complaining. I'll consider it a bargin if it only lasts a couple of years before the capacitors blow up. I am assuming it is a cheap component fault.
hmm popping, never heard anyone mention that before. Like it pops every time you use it?
Often enough to make me cringe and note it .. then nothing for a while.
I'm looking at the Godox/Flashpoint ones now as well as their new XPro trigger, not that there is anything wrong with the YN622C trigger system for the home hobbyist. I just like the bigger slanted screen : )
Well for future when this one dies.
Great informative video.
Can anyone confirm that the YN685 will rear/second curtain sync with a Canon dslr and Canon sync cord OC-E3? Cheers
Is it usable with a canon camera
Hi Eric
I am new in DSLR photography and have few questions which may be obvious for you about wireless Yongnuo flash operation with Nikon camera.
Many thanks,
Victor
I really havent used Godox, but I have heard very good things. So I can really only share my thoughts on the YN side of things.
Eric Rossi many thanx
glad to help! Let me know what you go with
I like your videos. Great job.
thank you
