  • My name is Kathryn, and my hope is to help you flourish with Jesus in every season!
Here you will find our personal testimony of when we received our "prayer language" or "praying in tongues." Some may also refer to this as praying in the spirit.
While I understand that every Christian may not agree on this topic, sharing our testimony is only meant to encourage those who are seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. We are not interested in contributing to the division among us Christians; if you find that you do not agree, we are okay with agreeing to disagree on this and wish you well.
I personally believe that you can be a Christian, baptized in the Holy Spirit, and not have a prayer language outside of your native tongue, especially those unaware to this ability. However, we don’t all agree on this and that is okay. I also believe that if you ask for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit with the intent to receive your own personal prayer language, God will give it to you.
I will be sharing a more detailed breakdown of the scriptures for anyone who is curious about this topic and wondering where they can find and understand the scriptures on it. As always, talk with your pastor and church leadership if you are seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit with evidence in speaking in tongues so they can help support you.
    Scriptures For Reference:
Mark 16:17- And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues
Acts 1:5- for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:8- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 2:4- Seven weeks had gone by since Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the Day of Pentecost had now arrived. As the believers met together that day, suddenly there was a sound like the roaring of a mighty windstorm in the skies above them and it filled the house where they were meeting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on their heads. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in languages they didn’t know, for the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
1 Cor 14:14-15- For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
1 Cor 14:2- For one who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to people but to God; for no one understands him or catches his meaning, but by the Spirit he speaks mysteries [secret truths, hidden things].
1 Cor 14:4- One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church [promotes growth in spiritual wisdom, devotion, holiness, and joy].
Jude 1:20-21- But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Ephesians 6:18- With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.
Romans 8:26- Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Tongues operate in this age as a sign to unbelievers and prophecy as a sign to believers:
1 Cor 14:21-22- In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
