I think it's great for you to throw pop quizzes at Peter. It really makes him think and retain info. You're turning him into one heck of an apprentice.
Great vid, Mikey! There’s lots of Value in your monthly service plan……pays for itself BEFORE the first service. You’ll do well with that. I love the way you interact with Peter. He is lucky to have a Boss that’s tutoring him in the Trade. I’m sure he appreciates the knowledge your giving more than he shows. He’s so quiet sometimes but when he does open up, it shows he knows what he is doing. You should be proud of his progress in such a short time…….Your going places Mikey, and he is the future of your Company! Continued success with business and Life!
@@PipeDoctor So, before my present Occupation, I did over 10 years in the Electrical trade. My Boss, like you , treated me like his Son. Although that man has passed, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t forget the love and support he showed me. You’ll do well. Mike…..Wear that “Master Plumber” title with pride…….it wasn’t given to you, it was EARNED!
Thanks I’m 24 in the HVAC trade, and I needed help with selling, heating you talk to the customer helped. Cause you sounded more like you’re genuinely helping, rather than selling
I don’t believe in high pressure tactics. Just treat others how id want to be treated
Work hard, honestly, and everything else will come. Almost forgot the muscle to install.
I need more of these Mikey. I’m a gas furnace guy. One thing I love is taking them completely apart and brushing all the burners and sensors. I also if dirty will pull blower out. But on gas furnaces the blower is not as easy to remove then a heat pump. Great videos Mikey. Maybe Peter will start doing pms by himself next week lol
thank you for this video!! One tip, make sure we can hear the answers to the pop quiz! maybe repeat the answer so we can hear it haha.
This helped me be confident to tackle my own maintenance
Been watching you for over a year. You have taught me a lot, about business and hvac. Thank you
I wish I did my apprenticeship under your guidance. I got kicked around and told to turn around when a lesson was to be learned. May The Plumbing Gods always protect you.
Peter, u lucky dog
13:25 😂😂😂roasting him. At least u didn’t call him a virgin
Haha, well, I can't promise you the guidance of the Plumbing Gods, but I can definitely share some valuable tips and tricks with you! Let's make plumbing fun again!
Peter is coming along quite fine cuz he has a great teacher
This was absolutely fantastic!
Also super helpful.
Thank you so much man, hope you’ve been doing well
Thanks! You too!
Good video. As a handyman landlord, I found your review of the furnace parts useful. Thanks.
We always check the amperage of the inducer to. Nice work 😊. And verify the gas pressure is correct 😊
Yes, you are right
Good stuff👍🏽
In addition to what you do I,
blow and brush out the burners
check the back side for debris/corrosion
check inducer port for build up
check the motor cap.
vac out the compartment if needed
Wipe down exterior.
If they have ac. I use a bore cam to check the coil. (Recommend future service)
yes! I just serviced my furnace. removed the blowers and scrubbed them clean. Proactively replaced the blower cap (furnace is going 20 years now), igniter replaced.
I would expect a pressure check at the valve as well.
Good video, comment the Humidistat is in the wrong spot is supposed to be located above the humidifier duct going to return
So basically if everything is working normally you just clean the flame sensor and clean the air filter?
Also I don’t have that humidifier. Is that something that’s usually found in dryer places?
Well, I fixed the immediate issue and gave them some advice on how to proceed with future maintenance and left it at that. If you need an HVAC contractor in the Long Island area, give us a call at 516-348-6300.
I'm not a service tech but recently serviced my furnace based on youtube videos. At a minumum remove the burners and brush them? In my unit 2 screws remove the bar holding them down.
Omg -hello neighbor!! Franklin Sqr here. I just want to give you an Atta Boy for video
And eek - that closet of a space must be heck to work in if things need real work
Peace be w/ you
Hello. Great video. I live in an apartment and the gas furnace stops working during a power outage. Can I connect a vehicle battery or some other power source to the furnace so that it will run during power outage? Thanks
yes and no. it is hard wired to the main electrical panel. If it where your house and you setup an OUTLET to plug your furnace into, then you can plug in a battery backed INVERTER (you need 110V A/C) to run the control board, thermostat, and blower motor. there are videos on youtube on how to do this. but you can't modify a rental apartment to do this, only the house you OWN.
Mikey "hanging on for his dear life" Pipes as Peter drives. 🥳🤯
Was doing a PM on a newer version of the XB80 - the S8X1 or something like that. The furnace has just 1 large door panel and doesn't have a door switch. Was wondering if that was a mistake but it seems to be easier to service, as you don't need to hold down the switch while testing out the components. Any thoughts?
That's interesting, I've never seen that!
Mike, Did you remove the piece of yellow insulation in the main blower.....see at 8:30 - 8:35 timeline.
it was out of balance rattling too, which my ears heard it yelling "clean me"
Where was it, I'm not seeing any yellow insulation with the air blower box
I think I saw it, you're talking about 8:18 - 8:20 when he pans to the left inside of the blower right?
Nice very detailed and real 💯💯
Appreciate that
8:35 you ever catch the foam in the blower?
You're talking about 8:18 - 8:20 when he pans to the left side of the blower right?
How long does a maintenance take ?
Usually 60-90 minutes
Nice video
Thanks
First! And wasn’t this the first gas furnace I serviced with you and tested a bad HSI?
@@PipeDoctor when I think back on days like that I feel like I really have learned so much more than I knew
I noticed when you showed pic of blower wheel very slightly that there appeared to be some debris or paper sucked in to wheel. Causing system to shake
hey Mike, did you turn on the inverter ?
TGIF Mikey. On that maintenance you put your camera into the blower area and we could see a piece of debris in the blower wheel. That Trane unit had a bad vibration. Blower motor won’t last long.
Why do we hardly see any gas furnaces in your videos? Are they uncommon in the northeast? Here in Chicago it's what I've ever known and had.
Hey fellow hvac tech here in NY, not sure why he doesn’t post much of them but there common here as well
Aprilaire 400 needs #45 water panel to work best
Any updates on your Porsche?
@@PipeDoctor links please !
Mikey Pipes who makes your stickers?
Actually Trane ignitor should read 14-18 ohms. What about checking the capacitor and cleaning the burners. Checking gas pressure?
That looks like a universal replacement
@@MoonRambo702 the universal board comes with an ignitor made for certain systems and one being a trane/American standard
@@shapedstones last time I used one of those it came with an universal. unlikely to have the spec of an oem igniter.
Mikey! I’m hoping some other guy installed that saddle valve to the humidifier and not you
Haha, don't worry, it wasn't me! But saddle valves can be a bit tricky, so it's always good to have a professional handle it.
TGIF Mikey !!!
Good ol 80%ers make me happy. So much more reliable. And if proper setup is done, you'll achieve much higher afue %. I always argue with people, btu rating is a btu rating. The furnace simply can not consume more fuel per the hour than a 90% plus efficient. And the temp rise are also the same 😝. Set your thermostat to 3 cycles per hour, no homeowner would see a difference on fuel bill. I tell customers all the time to stick with 80% plus furnaces, and two stage 80% save even more money.
90’s called and want their thoughts back.
@@xzibit8614 what?
total misinformation, 80% even perfectly tuned dumps 20% of the heat produced right up the stack. furnace's job is to replace heat that's lost, max btu input per hour does not predict energy consumption.
2-stage of same afue does not save energy compared to single stage, 2-stage is entirely for improved comfort.
condensing reliability is the same provided it is properly installed and maintained.
temp rise means nothing for efficiency and heat output if you don't know the cfm.
if you're in this industry, go back to school or find another job - don't know basic theory.
@@Jon-hx7pe preach.
Mikey have you installed or worked on any ULN Carrier furnaces, they are a BITCH to diagnose constant issues from day 1
what issues you have?
Geez. People send this guy money? LOL
$200 per hour!? Is that because there are two techs?
$225 is below industry standard in NYC area
👍
That looks like a bike tuneup.
Quit using saddle valves people. Install a 1/4" angle stop.
Hacks bring me stacks. And I ain’t shitting you either. Stacks upon stacks. Let them keep using them.
225 thumbs up Mikey Pipes
Rent out Harras Atlantic City pool. Be epic
8:34.
$225/hour for a f'in plumber! Did you go to college and graduate school to become a plumber!? That is insane!
I know. I don’t charge enough.
winner gets to drive the Porche
Be careful with the new car.
@@PipeDoctor Drive it like ya stole it then. 😂
