- This is PART 1 of my 2 part series on recreating the submarine from Subnautica- The CYCLOPS. This project spanned about 4 months and was a huge learning experience! The entire hull is 3d printed and I have STL files are available right now to Patrons and will be released to Thingiverse when I drop Part 2 showing the larger core structure, and the sub in action. This is a bit of a departure from the usual rockets but it is a project I have always wanted to do and now, hopefully you can too!

Part 2 making the perfect sub: footlong, steak and cheese...
Great video ;)
now that would be a clever follow up
This is freaking art. I love your work done here and that damn good game.
i am pogged outta my mind rn
love it
Subnautica has to be the perfect game to tide you over a lonely lockdown for a global pandemic. xD
Wow, I’m amazed at the creativity! This is fascinating to learn. You do an amazing job at describing the build
I'm so excited to see you get this working! it was fun following your progress in Discord!
Your tips were super helpful! For phase 2 maybe add some inertial guidance????
From deep space to Mariana trench. That's cool.
The hard work you put in, has paid off!
wowza what a dream build. sub has always been on the bucket list. excellent work. Love this channel!
buy you some parts!
This is great! Love the detailed explanation! You do a great job explaining it!
Now this is epic, so cool to see all of the components
This is amazing. You are doing a great job with this project.
Really nice build!! Congratulations!!🤘
The most informative video of its sort that I've found yet. Thank you for the good advice and interesting ideas.
oh my gosh. I NEED TO BUILD THIS TOO!!!
If you are in Europe someone did a remix of the cylinder too!
Great project and explained clearly!
Awesome :) all these details are welcome! awesome job!
Молодец ! Большую работу проделал !
A sea moth would be so cool but the cylinder configuration would be tough
For sure! It would be possible though!
Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing
very informative - you explain everything very clearly
Man I loved watching this come along. Was too busy to watch the video and now I have gotten to it. Looks amazing from the first minute. Gotta love subnautica music.
Thanks! I really loved this project! It was so fun to make!
@@TZeroSystems lol I remember looking at it and immediately was like hmmmm I know what that is
wow this is amazing i cant wait to start making my own thank you
This is so awesome! I'm starting my printer right now! :D
be sure to share it!
That background music tho 👌
I coloured my Cyclops Yellow, and called the The Yellow Submarine. xD
Is there a way that there could be a complete walkthrough for the electronics? For someone who only understands red wire goes with other red wire.
Hell yeah dude, that is so rad. Can't wait for part 2! Would be interested to see how deep it could go... I imagine at some point the water pressure would be great enough to force passed the pumps to fill the syringes and sink it?
The manufacturer spec's the pump at approximately 5 meters of elevation pressure so you would need to remain above that depth to be able to drain the ballast. As I see it, about 2.5m is probably my maximum acceptable depth to have a nice fat safety margin.
@@TZeroSystems if you use a motor to control the movement of syringe than you would not be limited by the pump max pressure but rether with the holding pressure of the syringe. I have read online that the smaller the syringe the more pressure it will hold. Any prediction how much pressure the normal 100ml syringe can hold?
A reason why I want a 3D printer
Not sure if you’ll see this on the off-chance you do: I was wondering…how do you know how to do this stuff? I have no idea about any of this stuff and while I would love too and be able to use this knowledge to make my own creation such as you and many others do-I have appsolutely no where to start! Anyways, if you do see this great and if you don’t have an answer or something like that-absolutely great job anyway! Like really an amazing job man!
we are rob
we can be ryan too
When can we expect Part 2 with the STL files in Thingverse? Also Thank You for sharing your build and your how to video.
2 weeks ish! Part 2 is nearly done editing
Your submarine need fpv 😁👍
Wouldn't work unless it was hard wired unfortunately
Hello, a question about the use of smooth on XTC-3D, is it thin or do you mix it with something to thin it to be able to brush it on smooth? Is it applied inside and out of the submarine hull? Thanks again for posting.
Inside and out all over the place! Also it is pretty thin so it flows well. I apply using a sponge brush for best results and no streaks!
Sadly some of the electrical and non 3d printed parts we can no longer get
Again, great job, I printed the sub and I am looking for the STL files for the WTC for this sub. I found on Patreon the WTC for the new sub model (great as well) and not Cyclop
I made a full write up for it but Thingiverse ruined it somehow and it is a dead link. I need to repost everything but have been out on vacation. I will be putting it all up there but life has been taking center stage over projects lately. Maybe this week I can get it all together again.
Files for the WTC
www.thingiverse.com/thing:4606648
small question: where are the two small pods on the belly of the ship?
Прекрасная инженерная работа
How does the syringe work stop the syringe end stops.what diy you used for end stop
Robert
Do you have any print files on the WTC that you built? End caps, and interior parts?
Not yet but I will! It I gotta assemble the guide on thingiverse
I am ham radio operator, and I've been wondering what radio bands can penetrate fresh water. Do you have any information on which frequency ranges can penetrate fresh water, and how well?
i wonder, how much range do you have with the radio signal?
Can you make a video on doing the arduino setup (programming) and key phob install please?!
What are the contacts that going from WTC (MP,DP?)
I always wondered how it would work on subs. I guess the simplest ones to do are cars and ships, but subs are something special. What's your discord server? I wanna see more!
Its through patreon! But I try and also be good on responding on all platforms and DMs on twitter and isnta
Which modeling software did you use?
CREO Parametric
Great work but I am left stumped on one point: with the syringe ballast tanks, where does the air go? You can't expel it because it needs to be present when you pull the water back out right?
It pressurizes the cylinder
@@TZeroSystems okay I had considered that, but did that put a limit on how much water a syringe can intake?
@@isaacromero7411 Exactly! There is a combination of factors, the pump strength, the depth, and the volume all play into this. Overall, the syringe can only fill to about 80% and the pump is only capable of pumping out water when the sub is above 5m depth. Below that and the water pressure exceeds the pumps ability to move it. The cylinder can help a bit at this depth due to the stored pressure but the math shows it gets dicey below 5m.
@@TZeroSystems wow that is an amazing build then from the standpoint of ballast efficiency. Do you think a next generation would benefit from something like ballast balloons?
@@isaacromero7411 It could! i just happened to use a syringe cause i had that in my head but i have seen it done with blood pressure cuffs for balloons too!
Outstanding work! Any chance you could share the Arduino code?
How deep would you dare to take this if it were a real tethered ROV. What pressure can that pump handle? I'm trying to build a system that can do 150psi. For 300 feet of depth.
Obviously the syringe will never have to handle that because the pump is gating the pressure (a nice thing about this design) but what about the pump? Do you have a link to that?
Easily 20m deep, the pump though can only manage half that
Anychance you will be able to provide the electronic circuit schematic and program for the ballast control?
Sure! it is very simple, Arduino nano with 1 PWM pin connected to servo out, one pin for RX in, and a button across one of the pins to detect fill.
I'll include it on thingiverse
@@TZeroSystems Can you post a link to it on thingiverse? The electronic circuit?
@@TZeroSystems Would it be possible to see a picture of the actual circuit you have OR even better the schematic?
Sup man, what filament did you use and what printer do you have? Cheers :)
This is printed on multiple printer but everything should be printable on an Ender 3
@@TZeroSystems so just PLA filament? Or PETG?
@@hueyskitchen906 Either works! I suggest an Epoxy coat though no matter what for longevity!
Would spraying it in a clear coat seal the pla or I was thinking of using Uv printer resin
It can but the harder and thicker the coating the better so as long as it gets on there then you should be a ok
@@TZeroSystems I got some UV resin today I will use that as a coating
18:03 Strange electrical-mechanical-electrical interface. Would have thought a couple of relays accomplished the same thing, although the coils would draw current the whole time they're held in the on position.
You could totally, this was just my approach. Not super elegant but it works
Does the vessel have a camera? To see in the deep?
It can but no live video stream
Seamoth?
What is the length of the WTC/ballast tube???
12 inches!
Hello. What servos are you using? How do they work in the water?
Corrosion X spray inside the casing is a real OP solution
@@TZeroSystems thx. what are the contacts that going from WTC (MP,DP?)
What's the frequency of the RC? You say the 2.4ghz ones don't work, but you don't say the frequency of the ones that do.
72 MHZ!
build a leviathan
like
what camera do you use
gopro session 5
I would buy something like this and i definitely wouldnt be apposed to paying somwhere around 150
😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Say Robert, Do you have files for the WTC end caps and internal structure components inside the WTC?
