Love how excited and enthused you are over learning something new. I think you'll love it. I'll be watching. Pumpkin Hollow Quilts has Flosstubes and shows the quilting segment last so those who aren't interested can move on. Her quilting segments had so many requests for more she does just quilt related videos and titles them Quiltytube. The two crafts do overlap somewhat. I did a couple small projects and backed them with SF-101, then cut a block and sewed them onto a quilt I made my Mom. Similar to tee shirt quilts where people cut the pretty designs like sports teams, universities, etc and sew them into a quilt. You have to back them with an interfacing because tees are made from knits that are stretchy. In my beginner's quilting class we made a simple throw size pattern but we practiced our quilting and binding on a smaller placemat. When we felt confident, we used the techniques on the quilt. You'll have fun.

You will love quilting and the quilting community. There are a couple of other resources you could look at: Fat Quarter Shop has a "Learn to Quilt" video series plus lots of short how-to videos, and Missouri Star Quilting Company also has tons of short video tutorials.

I don't think you'll have any problems at all learning to quilt! Use an exact 1/4" seam and you'll have great success!
