  • DAWLISH DEVON | Full tour of the seaside holiday town of Dawlish
    One of the best holiday destinations in the UK, Dawlish in South Devon has everything from a great beach, fantastic town centre, superb seafront and black swans! We take a walking tour along Dawlish beach to see what it's like
    Dawlish is a charming seaside town located on the south coast of Devon, England. It's known for its picturesque coastline, sandy beaches, and unique attractions. As of my last update in September 2021, here are some of the main attractions in Dawlish:
    Dawlish Beach: The sandy beach is one of the town's main attractions, offering a place to relax, build sandcastles, and enjoy the seafront.
    Dawlish Warren: This nature reserve and sand dune system is located nearby and is a haven for wildlife, including birds and other coastal species. It's a great place for birdwatching and walking.
    The Lawn: A beautiful public green space with well-manicured lawns, floral displays, and scenic views of the sea. It's a perfect spot for picnics and leisurely walks.
    Dawlish Museum: This local museum offers insights into the history and heritage of Dawlish, including its railway heritage, maritime history, and notable events.
    Dawlish Water: The town is known for its picturesque river, often adorned with swans and other waterfowl. Strolling along the riverbank is a relaxing activity.
    Lea Mount Gardens: These private gardens are sometimes open to the public and offer a serene setting with well-maintained plants, ponds, and scenic viewpoints.
    Dawlish Town Centre: The town's compact center is filled with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it a pleasant place for a leisurely stroll and some shopping.
    Dawlish Warren Golf Club: Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf at this local golf course, which offers views of the coast and surrounding landscapes.
    Dawlish Carnival: If you visit during the right time (usually in August), you might have the opportunity to experience the town's carnival, featuring parades, entertainment, and community events.
    Dawlish Arts Festival: This festival celebrates the arts with music, performances, workshops, and exhibitions, providing a cultural experience for visitors.
    Boat Trips: Various boat trips depart from Dawlish, offering the chance to explore the coastline, spot wildlife, and enjoy the sea from a different perspective.
    Coastal Walks: The South West Coast Path passes through Dawlish, providing stunning coastal walks with breathtaking views.

    Was there in June and saw 2 black swans with their cygnets down by the gardens. The cygnets still had their light plumage.

    I'm in Rotherham and have enjoyed your video there. Dawlish has been the new dream destination for our 5 teenagers. It looks great even at Christmas, but how amazing in the summer? We're saving up now for our epic adventure in the next year or two and I can't wait to show them this video in the morning.

    9:45 that’s really nothing. I’ve seen considerably larger waves hitting the wall going straight up and the beeing blown by the wind right over the train.
    Rode the train from Torquay to Dawlish. A bit scary.
    About the black swans, saw them myself, but this was in -97.

    The black swans definitely do exist, just unlucky on this particular walk. There is a black swan chic nursery for newly hatch chics in Brunswick place opposite side to the Strand where the public can easily see their development before they are let out on the water. Thanks for your walks really enjoy them.

    Dawlish is famous for its Black Swans, independent shops and all the èvents on the lawns, especially their Carnaval. The black swans were in the avery which is down The Brunswick, you went up.

    You did indeed find us a black Swan without realising it. Towards the left of the shot around 19.03-19.14, in the river by the far bank, struggling slightly against the torrent 🦢

    When we married in September 1972 we toured the West Country as far as Land’s End, we visited Dawlish on the trip and I am looking at a photograph we took of a pair of Black Swans on Dawlish Water taken at the time, not sure it they’re still there but I can confirm they are not a myth.

  • @johnledingham852
    @johnledingham852 Рік тому +2

    I agree, the black swans in Dawlish could be a myth. I was on the lookout, and no mythtake, I saw not a one.

    Just a minor criticism for your recent videos (friendly criticism, not trying to be a dick or anything) but I like to imagine I’m really there on these walks, so when you see someone in a coat and scarf or dogs on the beach etc, it’s like there’s suddenly been a glitch in the matrix & it’s distracting & hard to relax when it’s glitchy. Maybe you can use older videos but from a year ago so it’s still summer at least..? Btw there’s a black swan at the bottom of the little waterfall

    • @GimbalWalkTV
      @GimbalWalkTV  Рік тому +3

      Heya!
      The reason I am putting out videos i filmed earlier this year is only because the summer has been a total washout so I’ve been unable to head out and about as much as usual ❤️❤️
      Back to normal service now hopefully depending on the weather!

    Sorry to say that I am not too keen on winter seaside videos being released during the summer. I prefer to see people swimming in the sea and the weather being fine and warm. I think the winter videos could be more interesting during the winter or more appropriate season.
