This video is hands down the best one I've seen on the PD400X, and i've seen a ton. Bought the PD400X already, can't wait to arrive.
Hey I was wondering If you Like the microphone and what you don't like about it
What compressor settings would you recommend?
Keep your content coming, some of the best I have seen that covers lesser known brands. Should point out I was a bit confused by your title, I was looking for a Maono pd400x review, but it threw me off due to how long the title was and how the PD400X part was hidden away in a bracket, I think its bad for your algo.
Love the Maono PD400x sound in USB. It was less warm in your XLR test; perhaps needs computer EQ.
I was under the impression the PD400X has dual mode usb/xlr that allows digital and analogue recording at the same time?
Earlier today I got a notification of winning the Grand Prize of Maono's Creative Photography Contest 2023! Which includes AME2 and PD400x and a White Case. I can't believe. Last month I bought the PD100U but wanted the PD400X but couldn't buy it due to budget. Official's have taken my mailing address and I can't wait to get my hands on the AME2 and the PD400X!
Congratulations! Have you got it? I bought this just few days ago and can't wait to have it! ❤
@@iamlovelyofficial9707 Unfortunately, haven't receieved yet. And they are also not responding anymore on discord. Been 2 weeks now. Still hopeful tho.
@@NHanced Haven't got the PD400x yet not sure how long do I have to wait, but got the other two.
Thanks for the video. I noticed some reviewers, including you, mentioned bad noise floor. Like it picks up too muck of background noise and hum. That true? Or avoidable/curable?
I wouldn’t say it’s bad! It’s just not “pristine”. Some people can get by with that audio, and it can be cleaned up in post.
@@DaveSoltura Thanks for the useful info! Do you think this mic could be usable for vocals/singing, which I intend to apply lot of fc anyway? Like autotune, some processing chains, reverb etc? Thx
I've had a PD100 XLR version for about 6 months. Think I paid $45. I use it primarily for voice-over gaming and wow is it great. Very warm but not muffled. Stopped counting how many time I get asked what mic I have. I've probably sold a dozen of them just getting asked about it.

Hey Dave! I have connected the PD400x through an XLR cable and into my Motu M2, and the Motu M2 is connected to my laptop through usb C. However, I can't get any output from it. Any idea what I've done wrong? Thank you for the great video as always!
Hi there! Is your Motu M2 new? This is likely on the software level. The PD400x should be fine on its own. You could look into the drivers for the Motu M2 specific for your OS: motu.com/en-us/download/product/408/
Make sure the Motu is on. It's got a power switch. Then drive the gain up. :)
@@DaveSoltura my motu m2 is 3 years old, functioning well but just doesn't work on my pd400x, there's input but no output!
@@premium3991 If there’s input but no output, that is bizarre. Where are you recording/streaming? Have you tried direct monitoring? There’s a chance you may have just selected a different device on your DAW. Have you also tried switchint xlr cables? Checking if the connectors are locked tight? My Motu is the same age as yours but handles it fine.
@DaveSoltura It worked! Unplugged and plugged everything in, cranked the gain up, and whola! Sounded really good recording through Audacity! Heard you use reaper through your livestream but I was really lost when I tried it 🤣 you should do a beginner guide on how to record the best audio using pd200/400x with Reaper! Take care Dave and thank you once again! 🥰🙏🏻
Do you think this mic can be good for recording vocals?
For certain genres! Not everyone wants a broadcast dynamic sound, but it can work if you like it. Condensers in general sound different.
FIFINE AM8 costs 60 USD and pd400x costs 120 USD in my country, which one should i buy according to you? i plan it to use for streaming and gaming with USB-C and plan on upgrading to XLR in future, is pd400x worth the extra 60 USD ??
I honestly think the PD400x has a bit more "wow" factor to the sound, out of the box, but not so much that it's necessarily worth twice the price. Imagine a 10-15% improvement for twice the price.
But, the AM8 is no slouch. It's a great mic for the price.
If your budget is really tight, the AM8 will not disappoint you. It gives you more money to save for your audio interface.
The pd400x has a lot of versality in it. They even added a custom EQ in the latest maono link along with firmware update.

Which is better Am8 or A8 Plus?
Good question! I’ll consider that video if this gets 20 likes! :)
Straightforward answer: am8 for noise canceling, a8 plus for asmr
got the fifine tank 3 on sale for 76 on amazon yesterday and then watched this, went back to amazon and saw that this mic is going for 110 with a 10 dollar coupon bringing it down to 100. Had to cancel my order and cop this instead
Price to performance wise. Is the PD400X better than the PD200X. Most likely be used for gaming, maybe some videos, some voice overs and stuff, usually for casuals doings. Would you say PD200X is more than enough for it?
The PD200x will definitely be more than enough for casual use. The PD400x gives you a bit more professional polish, but isn't necessary for casual use.
@@DaveSoltura nice, exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you very much!
pd400 or k688 which is better ? please response.
PD400x is in a different league compared to the K688. But the K688 also does so well for its price! Depends if your prioritize savings, or better quality.
@@DaveSoltura the k688 got revised as well. The white version is the updated version and it sounds really good. I chose that k688 with the wave xlr. If I can check out the revised k688.
This is the maono version of the elgato wave 3
inaabangan ko talaga to kasi nag tataka ako bat wala pa to sa radar ni sir dave since ganda performance hahahha
Wait, ilang beses na akong nanood ng reviews nito sa Maono mics pero di ko ineexpect na Pinoy ka pala?
Thanks for this great review!! Now I'm torn between the PD400x and the Fifine Tank3 🥲
Dave, I want to get you the affiliate link $$ when I buy the PD400x but your notes under the video don't have any links at all. This is all text, no links:

Do you think the PD400x is worth the price jump from cheaper mics? 🤔
The voice clarity does sound great. It has a full sound. I do have a couple of peeves: sibilance can be better, maybe caused by the boosted highs? And I do agree with the microphone controls being "noisy." Just thinking out of the box, would a condenser combo sound better, such as a Samson C01 or Behringer C1 + Presonus AudioBox Go?
Valid! Sibilance seems ok to me-what you’re listening on might be contributing to it. What headphones do you use?
Both of those would likely have more natural clarity in the highs, but you do capture more background noise because they’re condensers. You should only get them if you plan to invest in a sound treated/soundproofed space.
@@DaveSoltura a "gamer" one and something not studio quality 😅
Thanks for the advice!
@@ersamson The line between “gamer” and “studio” products gets blurrier every day though, so you never know!
Glad this helps!
@@DaveSoltura true, unless one won't spend moolah.
