The voice clarity does sound great. It has a full sound. I do have a couple of peeves: sibilance can be better, maybe caused by the boosted highs? And I do agree with the microphone controls being "noisy." Just thinking out of the box, would a condenser combo sound better, such as a Samson C01 or Behringer C1 + Presonus AudioBox Go?
Valid! Sibilance seems ok to me-what you’re listening on might be contributing to it. What headphones do you use? Both of those would likely have more natural clarity in the highs, but you do capture more background noise because they’re condensers. You should only get them if you plan to invest in a sound treated/soundproofed space.
Earlier today I got a notification of winning the Grand Prize of Maono's Creative Photography Contest 2023! Which includes AME2 and PD400x and a White Case. I can't believe. Last month I bought the PD100U but wanted the PD400X but couldn't buy it due to budget. Official's have taken my mailing address and I can't wait to get my hands on the AME2 and the PD400X!

This is definitely the best Maono PD400X review video I've seen on UA-cam! Plus, I got Focusrite Vocaster One audio interface (on sale couple of months ago). For me, I got three microphones (Maono PD400X, Samson Q9U & Shure MV7+) & trying to choose which one. I saw an video where user used an Rode PodMic pop filter on Maono PD400X & it's good.
Decided to pick this mic up as it went on sale. I'm gonna be testing this mic in comparison to my Electrovoice RE320. I love my RE320 but I wanted to try something else out. Was thinking of giving that mic to my Nephew cause he has a gaming setup and wants a good mic to work with. XLR preferred. Love the review in this video.
I've had a PD100 XLR version for about 6 months. Think I paid $45. I use it primarily for voice-over gaming and wow is it great. Very warm but not muffled. Stopped counting how many time I get asked what mic I have. I've probably sold a dozen of them just getting asked about it.
Keep your content coming, some of the best I have seen that covers lesser known brands. Should point out I was a bit confused by your title, I was looking for a Maono pd400x review, but it threw me off due to how long the title was and how the PD400X part was hidden away in a bracket, I think its bad for your algo.
Thanks for the video. I noticed some reviewers, including you, mentioned bad noise floor. Like it picks up too muck of background noise and hum. That true? Or avoidable/curable?
@@DaveSoltura Thanks for the useful info! Do you think this mic could be usable for vocals/singing, which I intend to apply lot of fc anyway? Like autotune, some processing chains, reverb etc? Thx
FIFINE AM8 costs 60 USD and pd400x costs 120 USD in my country, which one should i buy according to you? i plan it to use for streaming and gaming with USB-C and plan on upgrading to XLR in future, is pd400x worth the extra 60 USD ??
I honestly think the PD400x has a bit more "wow" factor to the sound, out of the box, but not so much that it's necessarily worth twice the price. Imagine a 10-15% improvement for twice the price. But, the AM8 is no slouch. It's a great mic for the price. If your budget is really tight, the AM8 will not disappoint you. It gives you more money to save for your audio interface.
got the fifine tank 3 on sale for 76 on amazon yesterday and then watched this, went back to amazon and saw that this mic is going for 110 with a 10 dollar coupon bringing it down to 100. Had to cancel my order and cop this instead
Hey Dave, hast been a while. I have bought the PD400X and never regret for a second. The only thing that bothers me is the XXXXL pop filter. Any recommendations for a possible replacement?
after u suggested to me about this mic now am listening to the difference between this and am8 and actually about the k688 i just not find my self with i like more the sound of pd400x and am8 but i found that there’s no directly comparison between am8 and pd400x so i cannot still decide
If you can't hear the difference or don't think it's substantial, then you really can't go wrong with any of these mics. They're all great for the price. If you had to pick based on looks, go ahead!
Price to performance wise. Is the PD400X better than the PD200X. Most likely be used for gaming, maybe some videos, some voice overs and stuff, usually for casuals doings. Would you say PD200X is more than enough for it?
The PD200x will definitely be more than enough for casual use. The PD400x gives you a bit more professional polish, but isn't necessary for casual use.
Hey Dave! I have connected the PD400x through an XLR cable and into my Motu M2, and the Motu M2 is connected to my laptop through usb C. However, I can't get any output from it. Any idea what I've done wrong? Thank you for the great video as always!
Hi there! Is your Motu M2 new? This is likely on the software level. The PD400x should be fine on its own. You could look into the drivers for the Motu M2 specific for your OS: motu.com/en-us/download/product/408/ Make sure the Motu is on. It's got a power switch. Then drive the gain up. :)
@@premium3991 If there’s input but no output, that is bizarre. Where are you recording/streaming? Have you tried direct monitoring? My Motu is the same age as yours but handles it fine.
@DaveSoltura It worked! Unplugged and plugged everything in, cranked the gain up, and whola! Sounded really good recording through Audacity!
