- This documentary, made in 1976, deals with the gradual shift from the family farm to corporation-run farms, with all the ensuing problems and personal hardship. It was made prior to the formation of the grower led organization, Potatoes New Brunswick, which was establish in 1980. Many topics discuss in this documentary are still relevant to this day. Some of the people interviewed or seen in this video are Maurice Desjardins, Antoine Desjardins, Darrell McLaughlin, Wallace McCain, Patsy Toner, Ivan McCarthy, James Dionne, Wough Van Gall, Jack and Robert Brooks, Richard Hatfield and Harry Evett.

These topics are indeed relevant. Society has steadily moved away from an understanding of that which sustains it. At times, I've been as guilty of it as anyone. An old Russian proverb states that without the Poor, the Rich would have to eat money. Thank you for uploading this. It was wonderful to see my Dad again.

Society's grasp on reality has been slipping away since the mechanization of agriculture began.
The farmers should have started their own processing co op before mcains arrived but their go it alone insularity would not let that happen, sad for the guy that does the real work.
The farmers should have set up a cartel long ago like the medical industry did. Restricting who can be a farmer and how much farmers can produce would have put the farmers in control. It would have also prevented ADM, Bunge, Cargill and Dreyfus from taking over.
Look at those prices! 1976 wasn't so long ago and you could buy produce for .50 cents. Today a bag of organic apples is $9.99 in the store. You think the farmers are getting rich? Corporations are. Grow your own and what you can't source locally from farmers and growers. In 10 years apples will be $100 a bag.
The only thing you can guarantee corporations will do is raise the price of whatever they are controlling, here in oz they control electricity and other public utilities that the public built with their tax money for hundreds of years the corporatism of the public sector is the biggest sellout and I call it 'Rentback' ie you own something but sell it and rent it back.
