    In a previous video some of you mentioned you really liked a whispered segment and wanted to hear more, so I tried to include more whispers in this one. Enjoy :)

    I'd say that my favourite part about summer is waking up and it being light outside. It just makes for a lovely start to the day and really boosts my mood for the mornings

    I listened to your Spring chat on the way to a live-action roleplaying event...and happened to catch Summer while at another one! This made me happy for reasons I can't quite give words to, but feel strongly about.
    Many of the topics you speak of here bring me a certain kind of nostalgic memory. Much of the talk of summer events reminds me of the summers of my youth, from the rain and thunder and lightning, to the smell of explosives and fireworks, and even the smell and taste of carnival foods. So many memories, so many images that pop into the mind. I could go on and on about it, but what it all boils down to is that you have captured a great deal of what summers are like, and I am sure that many of your listeners can agree...you have called up memories within us that are deep parts of what we remember about summer.
    Thank you for this.

    I love these chat videos. They're a nice recap and just calm talking is something I love.
    What I really found interesting was the candied almonds, which here in the north of Europe is a very christmasy treat. They're absolutely amazing! I love how they're a summer treat for you, but one of winter here. Small differences like that are beautiful, I think. Here summer treats are more like cinnamon buns and strawberry cake.

      It is nice to just sit and talk sometimes. It's so fascinating how the almonds are opposite for us! I am curious how we got them switched around from each other. Strawberries are definitely a delicious taste of summer!

    Ah, whispers and rain, two of my favorite things. There's nothing like the smell of rain. Speaking of favorites, Funnel cake, hands down. During summer, one of my favorite places to go is this somewhat mountainous lake in the area. Goes just high enough to see the surrounding land. Fields of green trees reaching to the horizon. A deep blue lake shimmering in the sun's radiance. Bowled by mountains chiseled through weather and time. Eagles soaring just overhead. It's a sight to behold. I digress, summer has gone by in a flash. My only regret is that i did not have more time to enjoy it. Things get so busy, I live for times like today. Where I can just slow down, enjoy some coffee by the window, and bask in the warmth of the sun. Personally, I've been quite well. My friends and I had some had some awesome times together. I've even made a few new ones. I'm starting a new job soon, it pays more for less work. I'm slowly working my way to a more relaxed and sustainable life. My personal life aside, this has been just lovely, as always. I hope that life is treating you (all) equally kindly. I hope to see you again soon friend.

    I didn't really get to enjoy summer as I had to fix my car. It's ok, I can enjoy summer next year. Hopefully it won't be as hot as it is thins year. I did manage to get a bit of a tan and enjoy lots of sunshine though. I do like summer nights but I always found fall evenings to be particularly magical. Maybe I'll wait for that explanation on a Fall chat. Super relaxing video as always!

    This summer has been a good point in my life. I started a new job at the tail end of May and I'm now past the probation period so my pay has just gone up. I started a new relationship in March and it's still going strong, it was her birthday in Mid-August and we had a lot of fun together. Things feel steady in my life, which makes a big change to how turbulent I felt the previous summer. Using this video as a chance to reflect makes me appreciate how well I'm currently doing x.
    As for the season itself, it reached a peak of 36 celsius where I live, hottest temperature I've ever dealt with! Coping with 2 heatwaves wasn't fun, and there have been consistent heatwaves the past few years so I can only imagine how hot and bothered I'm gonna be next year! I didn't find time to make a trip to the beach this summer, but if the weather stays warm enough for September then I'll try to get one in on a quiet weekend.

      So happy to hear that things are going well for you! Congratulations on your new job and happy belated birthday to your sweetheart! It has been so so hot everywhere it seems, hopefully the autumn will give us a bit of a break. I hope you manage to make it out for a weekend trip! Even if you don't make it to the beach, it's nice to get away sometimes. Take care!

    We are headed towards our Summer now. Very excited about the thunderstorms. We sadly don't have fireflies here, but I used to live in Ghana and there were fireflies. Good memories. I wish I could stop time, or at least slow it down. Spend in a year in those few perfect days. Mango, cherries and many more.

    Heya!
    Lovely to see another one of these. I love the roleplays, but I do also enjoy the more personal videos a bunch. And I was wondering whether there'd be a summer video, since autumn is fast approaching.
    To follow up from that video, I didn't see a lot of butterflies around that time, but during the summer, I've seen too many to count. In my mother tongue, they're literally called "summer birds", so I suppose it's only fitting :p
    I haven't seen many rainbows, as there hasn't been a lot of rain. It has been pretty warm, and my bedroom's been kind of a sauna throughout the summer. Couldn't really open a window either because the spiders have woven lots of nets right outside, and I didn't want to invite them in again.
    Should I, however, ever have found my way to the end of a rainbow, I suppose I'd struggle with making a good wish. There are material desires, ones that'd pertain to me and my loved ones, more altruistic ones, and then there are all the more innocent ones, that pertain more to beauty and nice things.
    I personally kind of got my wish already; I'm going for a master degree in my field! Gotten off to a rocky start, but with some elbow grease, I'm sure I'll manage! Besides that, there's the usual hope to eventually find and acquire all the things I feel I'd need for a stable life; a stable, paying job, a place to live, perhaps a partner to spend my life with, all that stuff. Can't really rush any of it though, heh :D
    I've actually never had funnel cake. I can't really think of any summer treats, and though I love sweets and cakes, I think salty, greasy food and snacks are perhaps my poison. So I'd have to say one of my favourite 'treats' during summer is onion rings. They're very easy to make, and they're delicious! Cheap too, which is nice for a student. Besides that, I suppose any sort of minty ice cream would be my preference. I love caramel and all things licorice, but peppermint and the like are where it's at for me.
    Fun fact about candied almonds, though; they're actually more of a Christmas treat in Scandinavia! They tend to sell them at the Christmas market in town during the weeks before Christmas.
    I think the summer's been nice. Felt I got a bit of rest between two quite important semesters. Would've loved to do more creative things, but time flies. That's life; never quite what we plan for, but hopefully more often than not, it's satisfactory, perhaps even in ways we didn't plan for at first.
    I'd love to listen to more of these, if you'd be comfortable with and willing to make them. You're pretty cool, and though I know you prefer having a script, it's nice to listen!
    I should stop here, because it *is* 4 AM where I am, and I could really use some sleep. But I hope summer has treated you well and that autumn will too once the leaves turn bright yellow and brown and red.
    At least the nights have gotten a lot more comfortable now!

    • @AlternateAurora
      @AlternateAurora  2 роки тому +1

      "Summer birds" that is so cute! I think I'll have to add that to my vocabulary :)
      It has been so hot and dry, it's unfortunate your arrangement with the spiders is a bit more chaotic than my own! Hopefully you get some milder days and a few good showers. It's so lovely that you're in such a good place in your life. It's wonderful to hear you are doing well for yourself. You have the determination and the right outlook! I know you'll land right where you need to :)
      So neat about the almonds! I guess in many other places they are a Christmas treat, how neat! I wonder how we got swapped around. I am an absolute FIEND for onion rings, so I definitely agree with you on that! I never thought of it before, but it definitely feels like a summer food!
      I hope you find some time to do more creative things, but not to worry. It's never too late and so many fun things to do in every season. I hope you get some good rest! Sleep well!

    I do like summer but with my body composition being more akin to a seal than a gazelle, heat is a real issue for me (not so much cold.) We had a couple of days of temperatures above 30C (86F) and Swedish homes aren't built for that. Almost no one has air-conditioning as our houses are built to trap heat and keep the cold out. It does work in reverse to a point but after the buildings are warmed up they are really hard to cool down again. A few days I just didn't do anything, covered all the windows any way I could and didn't use any wired electronics (my PC will increase my indoor temp by about 1.5C while running). I'm actually one of the few people I know that have AC but it's a portable one and has limited capacity. It did manage to keep my apartment at about 26C (79F) during the hottest days, but only if I let it run on full blast all day. It's also very noisy.
    I feel a bit like I wasted this summer because I stayed home during so much of it. My family has a summer cabin in the archipelago but I've only been there for like two weeks in total this year which is sort of a waste. Then again, I enjoyed my time at home so I guess it was not wasted (as the adage goes). But still, it feels like I could've done more with my five weeks vacation.
    I've grown sunflowers on my balcony this year and it's been a fun project. I planted them in april and the first one started blooming in july although the largest ones took until august. Now they're pretty much done and have started to wilt. It was interesting to see how the size of their plant pots determined how tall they'd grow, with the small pots getting just a meter tall and the largest stretching from floor to ceiling. It's an enclosed balcony so it kinda turns into a greenhouse, it also points straight south so it gets hot as hell in there. The sunflowers seemed to thrive though, although I had to keep a close eye on their water levels. They're easy enough to keep happy though (I am a notorious plant killer), whenever they start getting dry the leaves will droop but as soon as you water them they'll stretch out again.
    We had a few thunderstorms but overall it was very dry. Last weekend there was a magnificent one though, might be the most intense storm I've experienced in Sweden. I sat out on my balcony for like an hour just watching the lightning and listening to the rain and thunder, I just love it.
    I made Neapolitan pizza for the first time as well, using all the right ingredients (what better way to spend the hottest days?). My oven doesn't get hot enough for a proper baking but it worked out pretty well anyway and my pizzas were really ugly, more amoeba shaped, but the taste was great!
    I'm looking forward to the colder months now. Being able to move without getting drenched in sweat and keeping the indoor climate at a comfortable level. Me and my mom have a tradition to go swimming outdoors every month throughout the year. Jan/feb/march being the most interesting since you need to find a place where there is a hole in the ice. Even now the beaches are a lot less crowded but in a few weeks they will be completely empty. Just me and my mom and a thermos of coffee. Coffee never tastes so good as after having a dip in 0C (32F) water.

      You've both got nerves of steel sir! Don't think I could handle such cold water, can't say I'm built for it either lol. But even here in the Northern USA, the temperature spikes have made our temperate summers rather uncomfortable. At least with cold you can throw on a coat. And on a cold morning, there's nothing like hot coffee. Enjoy the water, and your autumn as well! Cheers from your friendly neighborhood Yankee ☕️

      @AlternateAurora  2 роки тому +1

      Oh wow, that really bites. I hope the Fall quickly brings some cooler, more comfortable weather your way and you can get a break from that sort of heat.
      I love sunflowers! They're some of my favorites! I think it's wonderful that you've done some gardening and great work on keeping them happy! It really feels good when you care for plants that are thriving- especially if you haven't had much luck in the past.
      What a fun and memorable tradition! I don't know if I would be brave enough to jump in ice freezing water! But I do imagine the act of warming up once you get home is made extra cozy by it. Best wishes to you and your mom!

    • @DanielJohansson
      @DanielJohansson 2 роки тому

      @@AlternateAurora It's a bit like that frog boiling thing but in reverse. If you swim in gradually colder and colder water you acclimatize. I believe there is even a physical change to your body where exposing it to cold increases the brown fat deposits. Honestly, the water is not the "worst" part - sure, it will make your skin feel like it's shrink wrapped around your body - but getting out of the water, that's when the cold will get to you. Climbing up the ladder with iced up steel handrails, stepping onto the ice and snow covered jetty with your bare feet, that hurts. For a while at least. The feet will go numb pretty fast and when they come back it will feel like your blood has been replaced with sparkling water. So we now bring small towels to stand on while drying up, they help a lot. My mom also like wearing slippers and gloves, I only wear my swim trunks. And those will freeze stiff (along with your hair) when out of the water when it's cold enough. A lot of people combine winter bathing with saunas, but we consider that cheating. ;)
      The water was 17C today btw, that's 63F, which isn't even a challenge but clearly colder than the 21C two weeks ago so it's dropping quickly now.

    And... yeah, summer is the most deadly season for me (perhaps, because of the extreme hot weather, at least at +27 or +29 degrees Celsius I feel that I may be about to die or become a creature that has lost control over myself, but is no me any longer), especially last few years of my life, it`s... uhh... it`s become very hard for me to feel better, and every next year is... is worse for me.
    And storms... ooooh no, ot`s even more nervious thing for me, especially night storms - I just can`t sleep, it`s... simply beats out all opportunity to sleep during the storm.
    But once again, you`re really calming and give hope for a better day, nonetheless. Thanks, truly! )
