I have been sharpening all my mower blades using a 4 1/2 grinder using 36grit flap disc and all my mower blades are razor sharp and are balanced everytime I sharpen my mower blades.
I use a Ballard's blade assist with my bench grinder. This is my first year in business and only service 20 properties so far. At the moment it doesn't make sense to splurge and by the rbg712, but definitely looking forward to when I can.
I did the exact thing this season. The Oregon was nice, but it was taking forever to sharpen blades perfectly with it. The RBG712 was so worth the coin! 👍👍
Awesome man!.. I'm just over a year in and already irritated with the amount of money I throw at Weingartz for sharping.. LOL!. Gonna pick one up next spring.
It is an up front cost, but it is totally worth the investment. Also, since you’ll have the blade sharpener, you’ll sharpen your blades more often which is a good thing lol. Just a tip, if you’re buying one in the spring, I would buy it EARLY spring. These sell quick and everyone will be looking for stuff like this that time of year
Personally, I favor frequent hand sharpening of my two mower blades with a file. Learn the skill and you can apply it to sharpening many other tools, such as planes and wood chisels. As an added bonus, it takes off a minimal amount of steel compared with using a grinder, so your blades are likely to last you forever. You do need a good vise to hold the blade to use this method. Any flat file in good condition will do fine if it has a handle. Handles are easily made from a block of wood with a hole drilled in it to jam the file.

Nice! Good for you man! Seems to be a common theme lol. A lot of people start off with the Oregon wheel.
Hey the only ones you can’t sharpen some mulching blade that have the up cut blade at the end.
Awesome video, Dylan! Seems like a great choice!
Thank you! I think it is going to be great for us!
@@D.Stephenson Very welcome! That is what we like to hear.
Here bro .. we got a bradley one love the machine
nice! I didn't know Bradley had one of their own. Is it a similar style of the RBG?
@@D.Stephenson yeah pretty much the same ...
was looking at getting one but looks like it be min of 8 weeks if luck on back order will be looking at getting it for next season.
Whenever these pop up for sale, buy it. They go out quick! Hop you get one sooner!
Do you still have to balance the blade after using the rgb?
Yes. You should always balance your blades after sharpening. Ours are typically pretty good since we sharpen them so often

@@D.Stephenson Totally get that. I'm super picky about keeping my blades sharp... and by "spring" I mean January/February lol.

I got the all American blade sharpener more in my price range and can’t mees up blades
Nice! I’ve heard great things about that set-up!
Why would you sharpen the bottom of the blades?
I agree. The back side should stay flat. This is putting an angle on it. Maybe one very light pass.
It removes the burr
