Good video....very informative...I believe the GPS antenna is getting water due to taking it thru automatic car washes...I just replaced by GPS antenna and third brake light...2015 Yukon XL...saved tons...fck the dealership...they wanted $500+ to fix both..I did them in less than 3 hrs...hell yeah...
Thanks for the video, it’s now $480 to do that same job on my Yukon. Thanks to you, I’m ordering one off amazon right after I post this and will be doing it myself. I have watched a few other videos and they all say the same thing about the slit in the back; the replacement one has the slit in the front now. Almost like they screwed up and had already made 2 million of them and said “oh well, we’ll see what happens”. Well, now we know. Thanks again for the video...
I spoke to a friend of mine who is a mechanic and foreman at a GM dealership and he said the TSB bulletin states the revised antenna with the notch in front for water to escape, along with applying clear silicone adhesive around the outside of the inner round black rubber seal that seals the roof hole is what is now called for. That is probably why you found that black sealant in there. Prior to the revised antenna that was what was called for although it seems they used the incorrect sealant. If left the way you have it now, it will eventually fail again. If you choose not to open the weep hole you blocked and add clear silicone adhesive, you should keep an eye out for water and dampness at the left hand corner of the sunshade mounting point. If you catch it quickly enough it won't ruin the antenna and all you will have to do it unblock the weep hole in front and add the silicone around the inner seal. Great "how to" video and BTW, I have the exact same truck in a 1500 High Country, also in Deep Ocean Blue Metallic with the Cocoa Brown interior.
Thank you for making this video, my 2015 HD had water pouring through the headliner this past weekend when we were visiting the Oregon coast. I had this replaced a few years ago when my truck was still under factory warranty. This is a shitty design by GM.
There are a lot more things wrong with the vehicle. As an example, Japan started dipping cars to stop rust. Then the US car manufactures noticed sales going down of known rust issues. Then GM/Chevy starting dipping the SUV's and trucks in paint to stop the appearance of body rust to compete with Japan. Of course Japan dipped the body and frame. Since no one looks at the frame in the US, GM/Chevy decided to lightly spray paint the frame instead of providing a solution that mitigates frame rust. So, you probably have a rusting frame where several frames have rusted through. Best to get it treated now. PS. Under the gas tank is the worst offender. So a complete rust treatment includes removing the bed and lifting the gas tank. Don't even get me started on the transmission and drive shaft. Both are a mess and need early maintenance before high vibration from the drive shaft and a transmission failure occurs.
Can I please ask you a question my navigation Cadillac Escalade 2015 is not working I live in Dallas my map says it’s at Atlanta Georgia my map is lost the could be antenna
Thanks for the help. I got the same problem looking to fix it soon when I get my new part in threw mail also paid about 86 for it. dealer wanna charge me 650 I told them why so much and he wants to hit me with oh it’s labor and reprogramming smh
I think the notch on the aftermarket toward the front is to let water drain downward to the front of the truck. The old one had it in the back which is pointless since it can’t drain out that way. Just what I read up on. Good video
Similar symptoms with 2015 Denali; GPS/Nav/XM/Compass going out and now the batt is weak after the truck sits sits overnight. Think just unplugging the antenna while I wait for the replacement will prevent the battery drain? I'm heading up north where the truck will sit for 3 days in freezing temps while I sleep on the ice.. might as well go buy a jump pack, eh? :) Nice video

Lol...reprogramming is a matter of disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Good for you, and good luck.

The drain hole was on the wrong end originally I don't know at what point in time they corrected the replacement antennas...
