    Question. What video settings do you think benefit the best from this lens? I got this lens to support shooting video as it handles clarity and color saturation much better than any of my Nikkor lenses. I have a D500, so it is the cream of the crop of cropped sensor cameras. I want to shoot video that has a truly cinematic feel. I have been shooting some test footage at 1080 @ 24 FPS. The D500 will shoot 4K as well. Again, what video setting do you think benefits this particular lens?

    The other option is use speedbooster xl 0.64x with any ef mount 24-70 f2.8. After conversion, you got a full frame equiv of 31-90mm f1.8. That also pretty cool.

    Hey Connor. Just like you I had my droughts but after seeing your video I decided to get one and it has finally arrived. At this stage I have an issue. Seems like the electronics are not working. Cant managed to see my aperture settings and the AF although I would never use it does not even work. My metabones adaptor works just fine. Do you know what the issue could be? maybe a firmware update is needed? Thanks for ant feedback.

    I use the sigma 18-35mm F1.8 + 0.71X Viltrox EF-M2 mkii on Oly em5 mkii. It turns the sigma into 13-25mmF1.2. The AF is as quick as the native M43 lenses. I checked that this sigma lens uses contrast detection for AF which suits the camera using CDAF like M43 cameras. Those camera using phase detection may struggle in AF.

    4th cons: it's heavy as hell
    5th cons: it's not weather sealed
    6th cons: obviously it doesn't support dual IS

      The only difference between my Metabones and the Speed Booster is you get an extra stop with the Speed Booster - has nothing to do with Autofocus. All I'm saying in the video is the autofocus isn't the best, when compared to something like a Sony. It works - just isn't the best. Just experiment with it and make sure your camera and metabones firmware are all up to date and you should be OK.

    Hello. You are using a Panasonic Lumix GH camera and a Sigma AF 18-35mm lens with a Viltrox EF-M1 adapter. If you focus on the subject, and change the focal length of the lens (18 - 35 or 35 - 18). Does the subject remain sharp? The sharpness disappears on my camera, and I need to focus a second time. When using a Panasonic 12 -38, 2.8 lens, there is no such effect. I change the focal length and the subject is constantly in focus. What do you think is the cause of the effect with Sigma AF 18-35mm.

    • @colinthecameraguy
      @colinthecameraguy 3 роки тому +1

      Сергей Николаев This is a problem with Viltrox (not with Sigma).
      You must adjust the lens in the viltrox (by rotation) until the lens will focus to infinity.

      @professionalpotato4764 3 роки тому

      Cons: Weaker AF-C in photo mode, AF-S is still ok. No weather sealing, no dual IS. Heavy. Very heavy and unbalanced.
      Pros: A lot. You get 3 f/1.2 primes from 24, 35, 50mm (full frame fov), DoF of f/2.4 (which is more than enough for videos), compared to native primes from Olympus or Panasonic which would cost you over $3,000 for those 3 focal lengths at f/1.2.

    Yes R.M.V.P Studios is correct. Also look up some reviews on Viltrox vs Metabones and you will see that Viltrox is cheaper and actually out preforms metabones in just about every category.

  • @EugeneMaynard
    @EugeneMaynard 3 роки тому

    Apart from the obvious alternative and well known advantages of using a speedbooster ( I use the Metabones Ultra) it can also be used to make the 18-35 act as a -truly par focal lens by slightly adjusting the speedbooster’s lens element back or forth until achieving the desired effect just as you would using the back focus knob on a broadcast lens! A picture of a focussing chart can be downloaded from the web to aid precise adjustment (google will help you find one).🙏🏾

    If the AF sucks, why not just get a $10 canon to m43 adapter?

    • @ConnorRickey
      @ConnorRickey  3 роки тому

      Couple reasons. #1, this isn’t a manual lens. Meaning you still need an electronic exchange between the lens and camera to change your aperture. You could do that with, for example, a manual cine lens like Rokinon makes. Second, the *continuous autofocus isn’t great. I still like having the ability to snap things quickly into focus by pressing the shutter button halfway down. Just my two cents :)

    • @joefoto
      @joefoto 3 роки тому

      @@ConnorRickey so it does focus quickly when using AF? I do like to leave it in manual, but use af to lock on subject quickly....panning to groom, and back to bride walking down isle for example.

    • @ConnorRickey
      @ConnorRickey  3 роки тому +1

      @@joefoto yeah it’d work ok for that - obviously not as good as a newer Sony or Panasonic camera. Again, i wouldn’t trust the “AFC” continuous autofocus. But by pressing the shutter halfway it’ll snap in OK. My advice would be to buy it from a legit retailer, if you don’t like it return it. Most places have a 30 day return policy.

    Hi Connor, great video man, enjoyed it.
    I am just moving into creating content for camera gear and videography, it’s a recently discovered passion. I love it. I’d appreciate you checking out my latest video for feedback.
    Anyway. I bought the GH5 like 9 months ago after LOADS of research. I have the Leica 12-60mm lens and it’s good. But I’ve seen so much good stuff about the 18-35 sigma. I’m so close to buying it along with the metabones 0.71x ultra speed booster. Is it going to be worth it though? I basically want to use it for pretty much all my b roll. I also don’t use auto focus at all at the moment because I don’t do much in the way of Vlogging. If that changed I’d likely get a canon camera for the dual pixel autofocus.
    Anyway. Would love to hear your thoughts.

      Hey, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I think you'd enjoy the 18-35 setup for all your b-roll. Won't have as much zoom as that 12-60 but I'd exchange that for a constant 1.8 any day!

    I've got the Gh5 and Sigma 18-35.
    I searched the entire Internet and did not find this information anywhere.
    Maybe you can help.
    The question is about the stabilization. What stabilizer settings should I set in camera if I shooting handheld? For example if I panning or tilt should the operation mode be on or off? Also if I walking with the camera can the operation mode help stabilize the footage? The same question if using a shoulder stabilizer.
    I apologize for so many questions.
    Hope you will help me with that! Thank you in advance!

    Cinematic has nothing to do with b roll. Cinematic is an adjective that Can be used to describe footage. B roll is a noun that categorized the type of footage you’d shoot.

    Sigma 18-35 might be a good combo, thanks! God bless you man! Thanks for the camera tips, haha. And know that Jesus Christ loves you and was willing to die the death we deserved as righteousness punishment for our sins so that we could have eternal life! Its so important to be in relationship with God our Maker because we were designed to be in relationship with Him, anything else cannot fill the void, the God-sized hole in our hearts. God desires to redeem us so much that He was willing to become a man Himself, Jesus Christ the Word of God in the flesh (John 1:1-14) and take our place suffering our death so we could be redeemed with His righteousness. The only eternal God has paid our eternal death. It is a gift to be recieved by faith, we could never earn or pay for salvation. Believe in Jesus and that He is who He says He is, and follow Him *because you believe in Him and He will save you. We all know this world does not last, not even our bodies, but after this life we will face God and He must give a righteous judgment against our sins, but in our life He gives us the opportunity to believe and have that saving faith in Jesus, (the hope of thing not yet seen Hebrews 11:1).
    2 Peter 3:9-11 NKJV - The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
    God absolutely loves you, you are not alone, turn to Him and experience comfort, peace, and purpose that only the True and Living God can give, Jesus. I tried many things in my life but the fullfillment and LIFE (being able to comfort others with this same hope) that I have have been given in Jesus is not comparable to the drugs, lust, and vanity I spent years chasing. My hope is thay you would accept the love and relationship of God found in Jesus Christ.

      The Panasonic Leica's have their own look but can be a little to sharp and digital. Not as good as the sigma at 24 fps for that characteristic soft look when filming video. With the exception of the Panasonic Leica 42.5 that is. I never purchased the Sigma combo (but would if I could do it all over again). I have read more than once that there is some play where the lens mounts to the GH5 when using the Metabones/Sigma combo. (poor fit compared to native lenses)
      I have the Voightlander 17.5 and if not for that I would purchase the Sigma/Metabones combo today.
