'Pretty good' is, genuinely, a waste of my time. Great. Excellent. Sublime. Inspiring. Emotionally devastating. Fantastic. Maybe I just value my time more than you, but if something is just 'pretty good', I'm not dropping 40+ hours in that world, like some have here (or 300+, like a handful have). I've put a good 15 hours in, and it's honestly a chore to play. 3 weeks on and off, 15 hours total is a 'pretty good' game. Versus games I want to explore, like Cyberpunk, Bloodborne, Sable, the Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima, Lost Judgment, etc.. where I can invest months exploring and engaging with those worlds. But that's the kicker: if all you want to do is spend enough time playing a game to make it feel like you got your money's worth, then buying 'pretty good' games for cheap, like this game that goes on sale every 6 weeks, then that's your prerogative. My prerogative is not to waste more than 10-15 hours playing a game that's just a cheap facsimile of better games.
I picked the game up because it looked cool not really knowing it was like dark souls, that was pretty intimidating for someone who has only ever played Elden Ring with friends carrying me but now I feel confident enough to take on bosses easily and even felt really accomplished after beating an admittedly easy boss on my first try with just myself and the ai.
I played the trial and ive found that i love the bayonet and short swords cant wait till tomorrow also to me my build was built all over speed and dodging I used queen thorn something as my main set also the i loved the chacter customization and spent 3 hours on my own chacter
The character creator is very limited when it comes to faces though. You can only select different faces to use but NOT edit the face itself. The most you can do is just change the eye shape with makeup and face paint. They really need to add a jawline, cheek, chin, and eye editor like the Sims 4
@@TheAsylumCat One thing i could´nt understand in the demo is how the stats are working. I didn´t saw any Base stats on which this scaling based of. And second the Weapon Moveset of every weapon type was most likely not existent. You could only do a normal combo (3-4) or heavy combo (2-3) and that´s it. No Mixing between them for something like a real combo system. Only if i hold the sprint button there was a new moveset for the weapon type and that´s it. The demo felt like a hack`n`slay and by far not like a souls game.
@@resonanceblade6673 inspired by a dark souls does not mean it is a dark souls game. Blame the people playing it for pushing it as dark souls. The devs said it was inspired only. The fans immediately took it to mean it's all gonna be dark souls animefied
A true anime at its finest, The 3D Anime style design, the voice acting, the sountrack and the story. It's just an anine, but instead of watching it, you're playing it.
Fair warning to everyone: Getting the Platinum on this game is tedious as heck, as you need to farm for 400 online co-op items. The most ideal method of farming still takes a solid 9 hours of farming to meet the requirement.
Honestly I’m happy with this game. I waited an extra year for it and it was worth it. I played games in this genre, but this one has me hooked. I give it a solid 8.8 outta 10.
Its on Gamepass and I'm loving this! Glad I gave it a go. Almost got discouraged halfway through character creation as I had had a bad experience with Black Desert (trash). But I went through it and soon as I was in the gameplay I knew I'd come across something special
I bought Black Desert on sale and I'm REALLY struggling to get into it. I really wanna like it cuz it came with so much stuff. And you know... I don't wanna feel like I wasted money lol.
As a rabid fan of soulsborne games and a minor fan of anime I can't wait to try it, one of my favorite things about bloodborne was that it switched up the mechanics and pushed things forward in a style of game that I already enjoyed, it's been a while since I've played a souls game, so I'm excited
I can’t wait to play Code Vein, this is a actually my first Souls like game. Decided to get this game since this is the same creator that made the God Eater series and I played the beta and demo and it seems fun even though I kept dying from the first stage and first boss.
lol I got the game solely for the character creator though I have played a bit of Dark Souls prior. Inching through the levels nice and slow and hitting every body I see on the ground. You're not jump scaring me!
Go pickup Dark Souls 3, you'll realize most of the games you have played, not just "Souls Like" pale in comparison to the depth that game has to offer.
It's my first soulsborne game too, but I'm already loving it. It's definitely skill based, as you have to get timing just right on just about everything, and I still can't parry to save my life, but once you get into the swing of things it's not too hard. Except for the occasional strong enemy. In particular, I dislike the "opera ladies". -I don't know their official name-
@@takatacheroki2624 I watched some videos on UA-cam regarding parrying which helped me in game. The videos recommended to practice parrying in the first level until you get the hang of it and you have you watch the enemies movement right before they are a out to attack you is when you parry. My timing is sometimes off but once you get the hang of it you pretty much untouchable.

Sekiro was a tough sale for many (self-proclaimed) Dark Souls fans; so what was it about Sekiro that really connected with you? Respectfully, I'm just being curious . . .
I know this video is old but just incase it hasn't been mentioned the screen transition at 6:01 sliding in off the direction you just had the camera rotating opposite of in a scene speeding across the screen feels a bit jarring suddenly and motion sickness inducing, fadiing in might be a better option for scenes like that especially in a game that centers on the same character makes for nice easy fade transitions. Thanks a ton for the entire video though :D
@@getikiakusomai2566 Idk. I guess I just haven't had the initiative or the drive. I want to go into the completed product to get the experience the developers wanted.
Code Vein is a truly wonderful game. It has some flaws that Soulsborne don't have but especially the Dark Souls series has more than its fair share of annoying sides as well, and not only the second part. I cried at some points during the game which is something hardly anyone will do over any Soulsborne. Its build variety is only matched by Elden Ring. The biggest difference is probably the bosses. They are not the highlight of the game. So it's the opposite of DS3 in that sense.
Playing it atm and i will say it’s pretty alright but the controls feels very weird if you have gotten use to the dark souls you’ll know what i mean when you play it
I played the demo and loved it. And I got the full game and I honestly just had tons of fun making some of my favourite anime characters in the character creator. And then using different weapons and play styles based on what the character I created it after would use. Like kurumi tokisaki and guns or koenko Toujou and heavy hammers. It is definitely a fun anime style souls like game if you’re into that sorta thing
I joined the party late. Got the game and the DLC on sale for $15 on XBOX thru GamePass. I'm addicted to the game. It's an amazing game but it has its issues. I've played Dark Souls 2 but gave up on it because I felt like I had no direction. My second Souls-like game was The Surge. I just stopped playing it (might return to it soon) and now I'm on this one. Here are my pros and cons 2 years after release: Pros: -Cool combat system -Cool looking weapons and gear -Blood Code system allows for different playstyles that you can also mix and match once you've mastered each ability -A build system to maximize your character's abilities -Good Character Creator Cons: -Hitboxes can cause you to miss strikes right in front of the enemy while enemies can hit you regardless of where you are, so long as you're near them. -Feels like enemies have really strong tracking when they do their attacks. Unless you're running a blood code with a lot of speed, they're gonna land at least 75% of the time, even if you're dodging. -Healing takes forever when you're in the heat of battle, sometimes it's a waste of time to even attempt to heal (especially during boss fights) -Enemies get to delay attacks and parrying doesn't always work
I was really looking forward to this. Since last year I've been keeping an eye for it. I really love this game. Now I never played Dark Souls but, I love the design of the game and it challenging. It's no going to hold your hand like a lot of games these days do. It makes you think about what to do and how to fight a boss. When you lose it really sucks but, when you come back an you beat that boss you feel amazing. Like you've achieved a life goal (Kidding of course).
I wasn’t familiar with this game before hand but I got it for free from PlayStation plus this month and wanted to see what it’s about. I’m a huge anime fan and have been looking for a game similar to dark souls but no as punishing
Not mandatorily with the waifu parts -no pun intended hehe, i wish future DQ games get a character creation like this. Since the MC is mute, might as well pick his design entirely
Pretty fair in terms of pros/cons, I always had it in my radar but I wanted to check a review before getting it. Kudos, I'll proceed to get my copy now.
@@SpeedKeed Just yesterday I finished at 100%, with all the achievements an everything after 100+ hours of gameplay, taking things rather casually. Overall, I loved it - specially if you're a God Eater fan since the combo system is pretty much the same (can't jump, but you can cancel attacks to drain attacks just like in God Eater) and the story is related to it. The game is surprisingly unfair if you're willing to play without an AI partner, but I loved it nonetheless. I uploaded a video where I soloed a boss after 77 tries if you wanna see how much effort I actually put into the game. xD As any other game, your best chance is to get a free try or taste by someone lending it to you either Steam or PS4 or whatever and then getting it by yourself, after all opinions are just that and we all differ on preferences. I'm so replaying it again anyway.
Gameranx is the best gaming review channel because it offers a variety of different perspectives and notes how certain things might appeal to certain types of people while it may also be unattractive to others. I like how they don’t broad stroke an entire game with arbitrary ratings. A 9/10 for some might be a 3/10 for others. They go into detail about how you might enjoy this type of game if you like so and so but if you don’t like so and so then this game might not be for you.
The game is really good loving it already. I ended up straying off the main path, went down some pithole which had a lot of cliff jumping and in some mad area now lol. All the this footage is basically 1st hour of gameplay though.
honestly what annoys me the most about all the soulslike games that aren't Dark Souls is that unlike DS they never think about secrets, sneaky enemy placement or anything like that that keeps you interested in exploring and revisiting locations.
Fair. However, from my little experience from what I've had with code vein some enemies are hard to spot they can come out of nowhere. When you revisit areas there are new NPCs to talk to trade or get a map to a dungeon. The game holds up on its combat mechanics and I've enjoyed it as a dark souls 1 2 and 3 veteran. Ik how it feels wanting a dark souls 4 but we gotta move on and big anime tiddies atleast for me is the most comfortable way to move on.
@@Yodalemos Why should Code Vein try to be like Dark Souls? It's just a genre that doesn't mean it need to have the same quality of an Dark Souls/Bloodborne. @@kevonseymourks2790 what I'm saying is, its only taken the combat and shrine elements from Dark Souls and hasn't done enough besides that to make it worthwhile. Sami Sayegh in Philadelphia so thats out for me. Going along with that Eagles are on so that has my attention tonight lol. Thanks though
I played the trial and ive found that i love the bayonet and short swords cant wait till tomorrow also to me my build was built all over speed and dodging I used queen thorn something as my main set also the i loved the chacter customization and spent 3 hours on my own chacter
ShadowBorn Gamer also loved the trial and love seeing all the post on reddit with character custimations
Don't watch IGNs review it was horrible they didnt even show the full game and talk only of faults
The character creator is the most fun I’ve had in a CC in a long time
The character creator is very limited when it comes to faces though. You can only select different faces to use but NOT edit the face itself. The most you can do is just change the eye shape with makeup and face paint. They really need to add a jawline, cheek, chin, and eye editor like the Sims 4
Well, mask covers your face most of the game, maybe that's why there's no face editor
For anyone interested this game is currently 75% off in the Playstation store. It's currently 14.99 till April 29th, 2021.
It’s also on Xbox game pass
Finally a Code Vein before you buy. Can’t wait to get the game especially since I played the Beta and Demo
The demo sold me on it.
Wow I went on a tangent, sure do love the sound of my own voice huh?

Is it sad that the Waifu creator is what sold me in this game ??

I had bd on mobile that fantasy island and never land is why I lost hope on mobile rpg I only play mech arena because of games like black desert 😂

As a rabid fan of soulsborne games and a minor fan of anime I can't wait to try it, one of my favorite things about bloodborne was that it switched up the mechanics and pushed things forward in a style of game that I already enjoyed, it's been a while since I've played a souls game, so I'm excited
Thx for pushing thru your illness to do this review Jake, its very much appreciated. Hope you feel better soon.
@@takatacheroki2624 this isnt soulsborne, its another game that has some mechanics related to dark souls. pick up DS3, you wont regret it at all, also, dont get me wrong, im picking up this game but give the original a shot

Talking about a vampire anime game, using "unravel-ing it all" at 2:12 . I see what you did there.
You had me at anime dark souls lmao
I will buy it! But I am kinda masochist, and finished Lords of the Fallen, Dark Souls 3, Nioh, Sekiro...
And thus the tradition of watching “before you buy” after I’ve already bought it continues

Call me when they make a Sekiro-like game. I've tried a few of the souls and souls-like games but Sekiro was the only one that burrowed its way into my heart.
Sekiro is their best game by far
Sekiro was a tough sale for many (self-proclaimed) Dark Souls fans; so what was it about Sekiro that really connected with you?

I know this video is old but just incase it hasn't been mentioned the screen transition at 6:01 sliding in off the direction you just had the camera rotating opposite of in a scene speeding across the screen feels a bit jarring suddenly and motion sickness inducing, fadiing in might be a better option for scenes like that especially in a game that centers on the same character makes for nice easy fade transitions. Thanks a ton for the entire video though :D
Gawd I love how helpful these videos are
I pre-ordered Code Vein because of the anime style. I'm an anime fan and I enjoyed Bloodborne, so I hope this game will be enjoyable.
Why u just not try the demo
It plays nothing like Bloodborne... It's a disappointment for me.
@@getikiakusomai2566 Idk. I guess I just haven't had the initiative or the drive. I want to go into the completed product to get the experience the developers wanted.
Helping Hands Because you went into the game already comparing it to another game

This game have some assets of prototype and Tokyo goul.
I love that
Code Vein is a truly wonderful game.
It's free on Ps+ during March, so I'll give it a shot.
I already preordered, I'm hoping it will be delivered by the time I get home from work tomorrow. It's Anime Souls, how could it possibly be bad?

Here are my pros and cons 2 years after release:
Pros:
-Cool combat system
-Cool looking weapons and gear
-Blood Code system allows for different playstyles that you can also mix and match once you've mastered each ability
-A build system to maximize your character's abilities
-Good Character Creator
Cons:
-Hitboxes can cause you to miss strikes right in front of the enemy while enemies can hit you regardless of where you are, so long as you're near them.
-Feels like enemies have really strong tracking when they do their attacks. Unless you're running a blood code with a lot of speed, they're gonna land at least 75% of the time, even if you're dodging.
-Healing takes forever when you're in the heat of battle, sometimes it's a waste of time to even attempt to heal (especially during boss fights)
-Enemies get to delay attacks and parrying doesn't always work
I rlly appreciate that even though you were sick you still got this one out
Anyone here cause of the PS+ March lineup?
Anime Souls? Right up my alley.
grow up
I'm playing with my feet while my hands are busy :D
Love the Character design!
got the collectors edition cant wait to play it
Pretty fair in terms of pros/cons, I always had it in my radar but I wanted to check a review before getting it. Kudos, I'll proceed to get my copy now.
How did you like it? Im thinking about pulling the trigger on it.
I uploaded a video where I soloed a boss after 77 tries if you wanna see how much effort I actually put into the game. xD
As any other game, your best chance is to get a free try or taste by someone lending it to you either Steam or PS4 or whatever and then getting it by yourself, after all opinions are just that and we all differ on preferences.
Ah same lol

I'm going to buy it myself as soon as I can.
honestly what annoys me the most about all the soulslike games that aren't Dark Souls is that unlike DS they never think about secrets, sneaky enemy placement or anything like that that keeps you interested in exploring and revisiting locations.
But it's soulslike cuz they have the same concept. Obviously Code Vein don't wanna be a Dark Souls game it's just the Genre.
@@kevonseymourks2790 thats exactly the problem, it borrows the concept but doesn't give us the same quality experience and is therefor worse.
@@Yodalemos Why should Code Vein try to be like Dark Souls? It's just a genre that doesn't mean it need to have the same quality of an Dark Souls/Bloodborne. It creates his own style and that's it just because both games have the same concept doesn't mean you can compare them in every category that's just dumb.
@@kevonseymourks2790 what I'm saying is, its only taken the combat and shrine elements from Dark Souls and hasn't done enough besides that to make it worthwhile. Its basically Dark Souls if Dark souls had 10x less content and replay value. I don't need it to do what Dark Souls did, but I do expect them to innovate on some things besides from the few things they took from Dark Souls, because otherwise its not a complete game, very barebones. I'm still playing it, but I just think they could have done more.

Good point on enemy placement. Every enemy in dark souls belongs where it is. This game just has them to have them, sort of like Nioh.
