- Taking on my FINAL challenge in Belgium at the Mechelen location of O'Tacos. The Giga Taco Challenge requires very hungry patrons to finish a massive "taco" stuffed with several meats, cheeses, sauces, potatoes,... lets just say THE WORKS, in less than 30 minutes in order to get their meal for free and a spot up on the O'Tacos Wall of Fame!

About Me:
I'm a 5'2 former women's physique bodybuilder on a mission to sample delicious foods from around the world! I tackle restaurant challenges, sample new food menus, and explore the unique eats in various cities. To balance out the calorie intake of weekly food challenges, I continue to pursue my love of fitness through extreme athletic adventures such as ultra-running and biking. For those who might be confused, this is what is known as "French tacos", (usually pronounced with the "s" even in singular) which has nothing to do with the mexican "taco". It was invented in the mid 2000's and is now popular in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
Like Katina said, it contains fries, meat(s) and the "cheese sauce". You can add different kinds of ingredients (onions, cheese, ham.. etc) and any sauce you like (mayo, ketchup, burger, barbecue... etc). As you could see in the video, it is wrapped and not just folded like mexican tacos (otherwise, it would just be a huge mess). It comes in different sizes: M (1 type/serving of meat), L (2 types) , XL (3), XXL (4), and of course, the final boss, "Le GIGATACOS" with 5 types of meat. (You can order them with only one type if you want to, the quantity will be adjusted according to the size).
So, if you happen to be in France or Belgium and want to have some tacos (as in "mexican" tacos), just make sure it's not the "French" version 😅
It has also popped up in Spain. I just assumed it was a spin-off from a durum kebab.
VERY popular in Quebec too- I saw many "French taco" places last spring in Montreal- and the first one of these I had was in Toronto, April 2022, at a place called Brick and Cheese. The owners were from France.
The first time I ate it 20 years ago was really good, it had this shape but was actually more like Quesadillas, only filled with marinated chicken and cheese.
It was so good, I don't know what the chef used as cheese but I could never really reproduce it at home after many attempts :(
The today's version with cream and fries is disgusting to me.

I can't say how popular it is, but we have a number of this chain in the Netherlands too, even nearer the German border

I can understand why they call it a taco but wrap it up like a burrito. If you loaded up a hard shell tortilla with two kilos of fixings, it would most likely crumble under the weight and/or explode everywhere on the first bite. That look on your face on the first bite showed how tasty the near perfect combo of ingredients was tho. I’m glad y’all got to exit Belgium with a win! Take care, Katina. I mean...it's not a taco no matter how you try and spin it. It's not anything like a traditional taco or even similar to a "white people" taco. I guess you could call it a burrito in the loosest of terms, I'm sure it's tasty, but not sure why they'd call it a taco. The ingredients aren't even similar except the tortilla.
