This is an incredibly good beginners bow for the price. I got one with 32 lb limbs two years ago and it served me well. As a complete beginner I had trouble with finding a rest and arrows that work with it at first but pure carbon 500 spine 30-32" arrows and and an inexpensive leaf arrow rest worked really well for me. The only negative I can say is that the riser is on the large side. For travel it may not be the best.

I sooo almost, almost bought a Left.Hand. Mandarin Duck WindRunner in 24# after watching this. I changed my mind, and went with a [Lancaster exclusive] Galaxy Crescent Magnesium Riser in Left.Hand. , plus SF Axiom+ 24# limbs in 68". But it was sooo close! . . . . . the Galaxy Crescent Magnesium ILF won because it seemed to be more, well, `International` (for any future upgrades)

I have a windrunner 32pound and with some silencers it is a good and well shooting bow. Some sharp edges on the riser but that is not a problem. For a arrowrest I use a rubbertube or a bit of lether, I just stick it in the hole for the arrowrest.

The phantom looks so nice, I really like the black aluminium riser but I'm 190" with 31" drawlenght, so it's a tad too small for me :D I think I will also go for the windrunner. Did you get it from Mandarin duck or through ebay/amazon?

I know that this review is fairly old, so I don't expect a reply, and that's fine :) . Still, I've acquired one of these bows with both the 28 and 32lb limbs and I'm trying to set it up. I'm a relative novice, but not completely inexperienced. It's been a few decades since I've done any shooting. A lot has changed and I've forgotten even more. I find that with either set of limbs that the brace height seems pretty high, even with the string with zero twists it sits at 8.5". I can't find any documentation on MD website about the brace height and they haven't answered my emails. So, I thought that I'd ask and expert. In your video the brace height appears to be quite high as well. I'm guessing that it's the accepted height, but I'm just looking to confirm. I'd also like to know what might recommend for arrow type for the bow. Brand isn't important, I'm more interested in specs so I can find an arrow I can source locally. I'm 6'2", with a 31.5" draw and I prefer to shoot three under. Thanks for your time and help.
would you mind explaining why most 68" bows don't go over 32 lb in draw weight? I have a 62" inch bow that is #40, I'm ready to go heavier now and since my draw weight is 28.5 inches most charts say I should shoot a 68" bow. But it seems that most 68" bow never go to 40 pounds draw? For example the Black Hunter 60″ Take Down Recurve Bow goes to 60 pounds but the windrunner stops at 32! I would love if you could elaborate on this. Thanks.
I was about to comment the same thing. I thought bought a Black Hunter recently, but it turns out to be a similar looking bow but by AF Archery. Not bad, but 60# is a bit heavy at the moment. I really hope he does do a review on the Black Hunter.
That would be really useful to have that review. I got the phantom and I love it and I told my brother when I get a new bow he can have the phantom so if the black hunter is better than the wind runner then I’ll be getting that one. its the amount of string contacting the limb on a reflex deflex the curve is more a deflection where the string dont touch the limbs, where the recurve point the tips away from the user and string runs in a small grove on the limb
Morten Jacobsen yeah I know what it looks like, what I want to know what effects these changes have on things like stability, handshock, arrow speed, durability, accuracy etc. I know what they look like, I want to know what they shoot like. The benefits and negatives of each design.
hands shock is a myth : the right grip and arrow weight and a sling will remove all shock. a recurve will generally have a bit more speed but in general those limbs are shorter as the reflex will be thinner with a slower cast a bit more forgiving on the release .a longbow limb means your spreading the load across the length of the limb from the fade to tip , where a recurve mostly move in the curved part leaving the tips almost vertical. if ypou shot both limbs at the same length id bet you hardly feel any difference at all, so the string and brace height comes to be a factor . the more speed you impart to the arrow the more spine it needs so the weight goes up canceling the benefits the recurve might have in speed and the difference in fps might be no more than 10 to 20 . durability depends on the 3 piece model or one piece , both versions are out there . ive seen a video where they dried fired the bow several times with no issues. with a 3 piece you can get new limbs , break a one piece you need a new bow , they are made of maple same wood used in the bear bows , bodnick . etc

I've been wondering about this lately, but can't find an answer anywhere. For the same weight pull, is this 68 inch bow easier to pull (without much if any stacking) at a "typical" draw of say 27 or 28" than the 62" Samick Sage at the same poundage. I have two Samick Sages of different pull weights, and even though my draw is 28", both the Sages seem to stack quite badly beyond 28". So, will I probably have less difficulty with stacking with the Mandarin Windrunner? Many thanx.
I wonder what it costs to make a bow like this. I see 10 ducks in materials and 10 minutes in labor, but who knows, that might be way off in either direction.
It's not complicated to manufacture these, but expensive to get into. The machinery required is quite expensive, also getting reliable material suppliers is a hassle. If you can't guarantee certain volume in every month they won't really take you seriously. Also you would need to experiment a lot with different materials to get decent, reliable quality with every bow type, so the initial cost to enter the market would be pretty high.
they are machined and mass produced factory cost price for fob is around 35 and 45 dollars , it will cost a bit more for a single sample but your can by directly from factory at nearly cost price if you run a club you can order 10 and get a box discount and you can put in an orderfor seperate limbs costing only around 25 to 30 dollars . however you get shipping and vat tax ,unless you buy from aliexpress with free shipping and tell the seller ,might be a dropshipper to set custom value below any tax limit and hope the custom office is on autopilot.
I'm sure you are right - it's certainly the case with other sports equipment - footballs, soccer balls, t-shirts & shorts, sneakers / trainers (even the premium brands), tennis rackets etc. They are ALL produced at low cost and sold with a MASSIVE markup. I guess those are the simple realities of life.

It was after spending quite some time investigating on YT and forums that I concluded the Windrunner 68” would best match me.

i recently got myself this bow, at 28 lbs. But ive noticed my fletchings keep hitting something and are wearing out pretty quick, some of my arrows have even had their fletching torn off completely. do you know what could be causing this or how to fix it?

But for somehone who is just starting with archery, it does feel kinda good (even though i shot with it just like 2 times, thats some 3 or 4 ours). Just wanted to ask, how to use that stupid arrow rest that comes with Phantom? Do you put the arrow on the bigger part or the smaller part? Because on the bigger part it feels that it is facing in kinda awkward angle to the left so, i am shooting without the arrow rest, but is it a good idea? Or should i buy arrow rest like Windrunner has? Cuz i dont really want to bruise the riser with arrows..

My question would be, could you get your hands on the Kinetic Carbon Fury (perhaps from some club mates) and state your opinion on that? That bow is used by some in our club and seems to be fair priced, but I am too new into this to decide whether that would be a viable option of if there's some caveat.
In most countries there is a lower limit for hunting bows. I think the lowest I saw is 35 pound for smaller animals. You need the power for clean kills. I'm not really interested in hunting, so don't quote me on that.
depends on your draw lenght as its a short bow , I have about 29 inch draw and have 30 pounds limbs on my "duck" and got 35 pounds out of it when stacked at the back . am also 180 tall so the bow feels a bit short its a shame they don't make longer limbs , they can if they wanted am sure , if they modified a few riser their limbs could be interchangeable
Wrist best backwards, from the bottom of your palm, to the tip of your middle finger, how long are your hands? You say you wear a medium glove, and that this bow is a little chunky in the hand compared to other bows. (I ask for comparison, as I too, have smaller hands)

If your draw is 28 and they only stack past 28, then there shouldn't be stacking for you on them? The draw is usually a bit smoother for a longer bow

The Windrunner doesn't go above 32#. The Black Hunter is a bit short for stable target shooting.

Wrist best backwards, from the bottom of your palm, to the tip of your middle finger, how long are your hands? You say you wear a medium glove, and that this bow is a little chunky in the hand compared to other bows. (I ask for comparison, as I too, have smaller hands)
