I really enjoy Liliac playing with their aesthetic as they evolve their music, it really works for me. I do understand your question about whether it works for mass marketing. Don’t know (and don’t care!); all I know is that I have not loved a band as much as Liliac since my youth.

It is once your into the band but visuals are an important part of grabbing your attention when scrolling and makes you click on the band, if the band stylises in the right way they can gain more traction and attention and get more interest. I agree that music is the most important but the visuals do have a part to play when promoting. Same as when you eat food, its all about the flavour but if it doesnt look appealing your unlikely to try it and you will miss out.

@@kennethwoodbeck9055 i understan the premise however back when twisted sister came out the reliance was on rock radio ec so you generally heard a band before you saw them. Now with todays technology and socials you tend to see a band before you hear them and that is where the challenge for a group now comes frm. You have to be interesting enough so that people are going to click on your picture or icon to find out more, then the music takes over.

Does it show a lack of commitment or thought behind the image or is it a clever forward thinking plan. My impression is a band trying different things to see what takes or feels right on the moment without thinking what it means for 12 months time or beyond

I know some people feel that it means they lack an identity, but I disagree. They play such a huge variety, and apparently plan to continue with that track, that a variety of costumes goes hand in hand with it. Think about it. The difference between Sail Away or Somber Cry and Madness is striking, and they play everything in between as well. It's similar even with their covers. There are light years between Master of Puppets or Symphony of Destruction and Piece of My Heart, right? But I don't think they're likely to throw any of those overboard anytime soon. Their identity is variety and surprise, and I think that's likely to continue. I know it annoys some folks that they won't just commit to being Dio 2.0 or something, but I personally like thinking "Holy crap, that was awesome! I wonder what rabbit they're pulling out of the hat next!"

Self projecting a comfort zone is why people have trouble with change. Liliac changes their outfits to fit the theme, so white stripes when they did Seven Nation Army, camo for The Trooper, mystical for their original Mystery, carnival for Carousel, Goth for Holy Diver, etc. I enjoy the changes in style to match the song. Needless to say, when they’re touring they stick to one theme to match their current album. Abby took time off because she was preparing for her wedding, the actual wedding and getting settled into her new home. If someone actually follows the band they do post announcements regarding substitute drummers. For instance Abby posted that Paul, a young drummer will be filling in for her at the beginning of their tour, which is quite lengthy this year because they’re literally playing coast to coast, and that she’ll be rejoining the band in the summer. Understandable since she’s a newlywed. People came unglued when Melos and Sam cut their hair. The hair was donated to a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost theirs due to chemotherapy or other treatments. Melody is growing hers back, Sam seems to like having shorter hair, it probably makes it easier to play guitar, especially the solos.

The challenge for Liliac, if I may say, is not visual identity. They lack a musical identity once they go beyond cover songs. Obviously, Melody's voice and Sam's guitar solos are consistent elements. But with one or two exceptions, the songwriting does not standout. It is derivative and searching for something to say. Contrast that to The Warning who have always had a sense of who they are and what they want to express--even as they evolve. Liliac would be well-served bringing in an outside producer to expand their horizons

They have not put another cover up on UA-cam in 7 years. Their fanbase only looks to them for originals, while Liliac still gets many more views on and is known for covers. Here’s the diff, pal. One band is well respected by their peers for its music, professionalism, stage acumen, etc. That’s why the band tours with or opens for many of the biggest name bands in the world.
That band you love to hate will be on its second world tour beginning in April. They’ll spend more than two months in Europe with headlining concerts and appearances at many rock/metal festivals, including the prestigious Wacken Open Air in Germany and Pol,and,Rock in Poland. By the way, that band has the main stage at Pol,and,Rock and will play to a crowd of 250,000. The band will also be announcing a host of tour dates and festivals in North and South America. It’s also rumored Asia and Australia are in the works for 2025.
Now that other band will traipse across the U.S. playing maybe 40-50 shows, mainly in small venues to small crowds. That’s okay. You play to your abilities. And they do dress kinda goofy. That pretty sums it up.
No need to name names. We all know who’s who, don’t we. And since you addressed looks, it’s plainly obvious one band was clearly at the head of the line when it comes to the gene pool. Now, what flavor cookie would you like?
