I just made this (and the tonkatsu recipe), and it was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD. Thanks so much for this awesome recipe! It was totally worth the time and effort!
I made this last night and it was amazing! I also made mom's korokke recipe and served it with the tonkotsu sauce you guys mentioned out of ketchup, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, ginger carrot salad and miso soup. It was very easy! Tonight we are making your curry rice from scratch recipe and it tastes sooo good! We did add the mayo, chocolate and coffee, and I am a Japanese curry convert now! Thanks for all the recipes!
I don't eat pork but this looked so good I am going to try it with chicken! The sauce sounds so interesting! And Satoshi - you looked so pleased that Shinichi loved it - so adorable! Your loyalty to each other is lovely to see!
This looks so tasty! Thanks for the recipe. For the next recipe, the Japanese style cold noodles sounds great. As always, both recipes sound good. Whatever you decide, the video will surely be a great one! Thank you for your videos.
It’s 2:30 am where I am right now and I finally made katsudon, it’s so good, I made the tonkatsu and rice from scratch. Thank you for the video help guys
Nice recipe. Watching this video makes me hungry all of the sudden right now.. One question for you, is making oyakodon aka Chicken egg rice bowl same recipe as this recipe???
And I would say that chopped green onions/scallions or thin chives work OK when you don't have Mitsuba leaves. Also, AO-NORI, dried green seaweed, to garnish KATSUDON can be another option. I had a Katsudon with Aonori once in a soba restaurant in Tokyo.
I love Katsudon! I make it at home for 10 years now. Unfortunately I don't have access to Mitsuba or dashi but I substitute a little but of Italian parsley and I don't worry about the dashi so much. I also add a bit of Sake to mine. It's so good and yummy! I hope your viewers will try it out, and I just finished watching the video after I wrote this and noticed Satoshi said sub Italian parsley! Heehee... Way ahead of you!
Tania Loves Japan I've found dashi at my local Asian market. The closest one to me is about an hour away, so I don't go often, but when I do, I stock up! You might also be able to find it online.
Ohhh, that was amazing. I still have yet to do any of the onigirazu from earlier videos (random comment, I know). For the summer 'cold noodle' dish, whichever... well, I'd say whichever is easier. If they are both quite tasty, whichever is the easier recipe. Thanks, guys!
Woah!!! That looks amazing and delicious!!! I cannot wait to make it! Thanks for sharing!! Hiyashi Chuka? I would love to be to learn how to make this. It's one of my all-time favorite summer dishes. Loving your aloha shirts brothers!!
There's a Japanese salad dressing that I'm trying to track down a recipe for. It's sweet and I think it's white miso based, could be some sesame in there too? I could drink it it's soooooo yummy!
Looks so amazing! I need to try this with seitan. Yum! Thanks so much for your recipes. Oh, both noodle dishes sound fab! I can't choose just one, so I'm picking both.
oishi desu ne? I love katsudon. first time I had it was when was around 13. at a tiny little restaurant at one of the back gates of the base I lived on in Narimasu district. I almost always get it at my favorite Japanese restaurant in San Antonio...Koikawa.
Awww idk why I'm doing this to myself today. Just had wisdom teeth pulled. Now I crazy hungry and hurt to much to eat! Ahhhh.....dilemma. Live your channel!💛
That looked fantastic. I've made tonkatsu before, but never katsudon. I'll give it a try soon! For the next recipe do the japanese pasta dish! :) Take care guys
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for mentioning a substitute for the mitsuba. :) May I suggest/request more substitutions in future videos for those hard to find ingredients. Thank you so much! Now on to the recipe: It looks super delicious! I love your tonkatsu (I make it all the time) so I can't wait to make this. My vote for the next dish is the Japanese style Chinese cold noodle. It sounds YUMMY! Thanks for another great video! PS: This made me think of the anime Yuri on Ice, too! LOL!
Hello! I come from Italy and the Italian parsley here is too strong in my opinion (as a substitue to Mitsuba). I've seen people using scallion and after trying it I have to say I love the taste :) Just thought I'd share, I guess to each his own! Love your result btw!! Well done.
The flat one... I'm not sure I've ever tried the curly one.. or if they have the same taste. I like it with the scallions, it gives a strong onion flavour (if you're partial to it)!
I would love to see you comparing a few of aaaaall those hundreds of japanase currys that I saw in the stores since curry is so frequently eaten in Japan. Maybe you keep in mind for another time, would be so cool! :>
Hi you guys, its Kristen from Hawaii! Can you help me out? I'm having a hard time finding the best brand of Dashi powder! Either I read the Kanji incorrectly, or I have junk luck picking brands. Which brand do you guys prefer? I usually shop at Tokyu, Life or Precce! Thanks!
I just made this (and the tonkatsu recipe), and it was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD. Thanks so much for this awesome recipe! It was totally worth the time and effort!
I made this today. Minus the greens. Still good! So yummy! Thank you for the authentic recipe!!

I don't eat pork but this looked so good I am going to try it with chicken! The sauce sounds so interesting! And Satoshi - you looked so pleased that Shinichi loved it - so adorable! Your loyalty to each other is lovely to see!

Satoshi looks very pleased with himself. Great video as always gents.
Both the suggested dishes sound good, but the 2nd one is totally unknown to me so I vote for it!
Ooooh that looks so delicious and cold noodles please!

TabiEats what is it?
do you think you could use cilantro instead? maybe with some lime? or would the flavor be too strong?
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for mentioning a substitute for the mitsuba. :) May I suggest/request more substitutions in future videos for those hard to find ingredients. Thank you so much!
Now on to the recipe: It looks super delicious! I love your tonkatsu (I make it all the time) so I can't wait to make this.
My vote for the next dish is the Japanese style Chinese cold noodle. It sounds YUMMY!
Thanks for another great video!
PS: This made me think of the anime Yuri on Ice, too! LOL!

hi, nice recipe please continue to make all those great vidéos. But i think instead of mitsuba, cilentro/coriander is better than parsley.
gREAT RecIPe THANKS
yum yum! thank you
would green onions aka scallions (in place of cilantro) work as well?
I vote for Hiyashi Chuka. It's 113 here today, and I'm having a hard time finding my appetite. Thanks for the recipe!
i love pork cutlet, curry & ramen, how about tonkatsu curry ramen?
Omg yum!!! I love Katsu-don :D

SallynaSmile the flat parsley or the curly one?
I like the idea of scallions.
The flat one... I'm not sure I've ever tried the curly one.. or if they have the same taste. I like it with the scallions, it gives a strong onion flavour (if you're partial to it)!
The curly one has a much less strong taste, so it may work? Regardless, scallions would be nice.
Japanese style chinese cold noodles!! 👍
I would love to see you comparing a few of aaaaall those hundreds of japanase currys that I saw in the stores since curry is so frequently eaten in Japan. Maybe you keep in mind for another time, would be so cool! :>
Japanese style cold noodles!!!
Thanks!
HI there. We use pretty much any dashi that we can find. We like Ajimonoto's Hondashi.
TabiEats thanks for replying! I'll look for Ajimonotos!
Could this be made with a day old tonkatsu or does it have to be freshly made?
Yummy!!!!!!
Question!
I cannot find mirin where I am. Are there any substitutes or shortcuts?
yummy
I normally don’t like egg but I’ll try that
I'd actually like to know what the music is that's playing? I need some good Japanese style ambientish music to play in the background!
Did you used regular soy sauce or something like Kikoman?

I'm eating Shoyu Chicken right now in Hawaii :D
