Did anyone else come here after reading Eric Flint's "1632"? Where this movement was described as being a "pure, unalloyed shriek of terror"? I must say, this DEFINITELY meets and exceeds my expectations.
Ce curaj; suntem în mijlocul unei lupte în plin război.E descrisa toată paleta angoaselor războiului: frica, acțiunea plină de primejdii, incertitudinea, spaima, oroarea.
Shostakovich represents revolution and the power of people. That's why I hate when I say Shostakovich and people immediately think about the 2nd Waltz, a work completly unrelated with his characteristic.
I think he didn't chose to write about horror. He wrote what he saw and felt, and that was Stalin's Russia. He had a great sense of humor and fun and whimsy too.
This is a terrible performance. I don't care what the "correct" tempo is, when you're attempting to play it so fast that it nearly falls apart 4 separate times in the hands of one of the best orchestras in the world, it's too fast. By the trio, it's slowed down several BPM anyway, because no one can play polka at the ridiculous tempo set at the beginning, and this movement is not supposed to change tempo. For all you "Ackshually, this is the correct tempo" snobs, there is a reason no one plays it this fast. The same reason no one plays Mars as fast as Holst intended. It doesn't sound good that fast, and it loses all musical nuance. WTH do you think "Non Troppo" means??
@@thefrankonion No, YOU are wrong. Do you even know what "Allegro non Troppo" means? It's not even the trombones' fault this recording nearly fell apart 4 separate times. This is a terrible interpretation.
Shostakovich among the greatest of music history
This piece is absolutely amazing

1:32 whoever conducted at this tempo had a certain grudge against the trombones or something.
3 mov is the most disturbing music I've ever heard, you feel the anguish and persecution Dimitri must have experienced.

I believe this movement is the spiritual godfather of Adams' SHORT RIDE....

So sad that his music has again become so relevant for Russia and the world. This performance sucks....it's played so fast that it's cartoonish.
Nonsense it can be played fast or slow. It is still a description of the grim reality of war which as you say is sadly relevant today
No, this is the correct tempo.
Wrong
