    Great video mate! Actually using it one handed is how I shot most of my series on commuting in Cuba back in the early 2000s. It’s so conveniente to shoot with one hand and being able to hold to dear life in a crowded bus. 🍻

    Always tempted by these as I have a contax ii and the lenses fit at the wide end between both. Tried out an S2 and was more frustrated with the infinity lock release. On the contax you release it by rolling on it from right to left whereas on the Nikon it's the other direction. Funny how small details can annoy. The viewfinder was nice though and of course that would be better with the sp. No need to carry the turret finder for multiple lenses

    I live in Japan and own the Nikon SP 2000 Silver edition. I also own a vintage Nikon S4 (never exported to the US). I've used them both and honestly the feel identical in the hand and the lenses are comparable. The Black SP 2005 is still commanding prices over $2000 USD in Tokyo.

    It is a beautiful camera. I like the silver on black look of those old cameras. I still have my Pentax K1000 that i bought new in 1993. You probably weren't even born in 1993.

    Gave me goosebumps, I used to own it with the same 1.4 lens about 4 years ago and nostalgia kicked in. Can't forget the solid feel of a focusing wheel and also how it's sharp spikes hurt my index finger

    Thank you for your detailed go-through!
    I have a feeling, the SP and I might get along.
    Your pictures: Top notch! Keep it up

    Such a cool camera and def one of my favs but the RF patch is pretty weak/faded compared to the M3. Mine also came with a very cool selenium lightmeter which can be coupled to the shutter speed selector. The RF on this is an improved version of the OG Contax II/III cameras. On the Contax, you always end up blocking the rf window with your fingers but Nikon moved theirs to the side. Also, I believe the infinity lock is for mounting/dismounting lenses.

      The RF patch on mine seems to be decent. I have heard you need to be careful not to get one with fog as it will be an issue.

      Even non fogged, I found the rangefinder patch in use the biggest draw back (together with availability of lenses, especially wide-angles). Sadly, sadly, as it is truly one of the most beautiful rfs out there…

    Curious - do you find yourself using it much? I've got a Konica IIIA and a Fujica Compact Deluxe. I just never find myself grabbing them though. I end up reaching for an SLR. When I am in the mood for a rangefinder, I grab the GW680iii, esp. now that fresh 220 is available. Great stuff man.

    len mouning,viewfinfunder frame vomplexity makes he SP a pain to use, leading to missed shots. M series Leica is king for functionality, the SP is far from a joy. so disagree.- Nikon F was Nikon's triumph.many contax lenses won't work properly on S-mount Nikons, due to tolerance issues, btw. althoughCanpn 7, 7s have slow LTM mount, better buys, imo, if you acually want to use ) zjls for vid. thumbs up

    Did you use NLP for the conversion? I always find NLP does a terrible job with Aerocolor films. I have to adjust every single shot tweaking color temp and tints.

    Really nicely done. Do you think the viewfinder is ok for someone who wears glasses?

    Great video about the SP. Acquired one from London a few weeks ago. Love the photography process, with everything manual. Good alternative from my digital photography with DSLR and mirrowless camera’s.

    Also i have been eyeing on a S3/SP remake for a few months now but haven’t decided it yet. A silver S3 2000 would cost around 180,000 yen as I live in Tokyo and SP would be at least 400k.

    • @SprocketHoles
      @SprocketHoles  Рік тому

      I think they were about that in kitamura shinjuku. It was tempting with the tax discount.

    • @GlaciaDay
      @GlaciaDay Рік тому

      @@SprocketHoles Kitamura Shinjuku prices are ridiculous to be honest, usually 15-30% higher than other places. Anyway I just bought one a S3 2000 on Yahoo auction, hope it would be at least in usable condition.

    • @SprocketHoles
      @SprocketHoles  Рік тому

      @@GlaciaDay yes but it was cheaper than buying from eBay with the import charges here in the EU. The quality seemed to be higher and they were very helpful. They also had the exact Nikon F I was looking for etc.

    • @GlaciaDay
      @GlaciaDay Рік тому

      @@SprocketHoles They always have cameras with best conditions, sometimes even brand new in box. Wish I could get one of those. I prefer having a gamble on yahoo auction, I once bought a F5 100th edition for 55,000 yen while Kitamura was selling one with same-ish condition for 180,000. Also you cannot fully trust them as I bought a Contax G2 from Kitamura Shinjuku which was labeled as in "great conditions" and later I found out autofocus works only a third of the time.

      @@GlaciaDay I did shop around Tokyo for the SP, F and few other bits. I also inspected the cameras, lenses etc there before I bought them. I found some good deals on lenses and accessories in other shops on the JCH shopping list.
