In this video, we will be looking at the ship's Deck Team which is composed of the Bosun (Boatswain), the Able Bodied Seaman (AB) and the Ordinary Seaman (OS). We will be able to see the different jobs that these crew members are usually assigned to onboard a cargo ship.
Chief MAKOi
Seaman Vlog
Hi there guys! I bet you were surprised to see a shipboard related topic. Full disclosure, this episode was sponsored so I hope you don't mind if there's an advert integrated in the video. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy!
Hi chief
Sir,
Give me MAIL ID ...
I have interest join offshore
I completed diploma mechanical engineer.
And also ITI FITTER .
Cool Chief
My dad was a Bosun ! I dedicate this video to his memory ....
So was my dad! He sailed from 1946-1969 out of New York
I was an AB for years. I couldnt go home everyday after work. But when I did go home no one got it. You work 24 hours a day wheather it was actual work or actual standing by. It's a hard job but more worthy than any land job. I love the seas and I love the ships order. You do not have this on on land. I was blessed to see this. I'm with the Brotherhoods of the Sea.❤💯
Salute to you chief and to all seafarers for their sacrifices and hardwork! God bless you all!
I love the way you recognize even the menial tasks such as scraping rust and painting being as important as any other part of running the ship.
Greetings Chief!
Man, this really takes me back! I was on a US Navy fleet tug. (No harbor work.)
We never had cargo, but did towing, salvage, and just about everything you described.
We went all over, from Seattle to Singapore, Pearl to Sasebo and sometimes Danang. Hong Kong and Subic were frequent.
Sometimes I miss my days at sea. We are a Navy family, but my ship moved around the most. It was good experience. With LOTS of time with that old needle gun, chipping paint!
Thanks for this video.
Adverts are OK when they are not over-done.
Hello Chief I'm Jericho Buno and you served along side my uncle Capt. Melvin Buno. He says great things about you 😊 I just recently found your channel even before he mentioned you to me
Thanks for a look inside your world Chief, sponsored or not doesn't matter, the content is what matters most!!
In fact, the first video i watched on your channel was that cargo bay cleaning activity. I'm really amazed by the scope of work and the fact that there is time constraint and complexity of inspection.
Nice work Chief.
Salute to you chief makoi and to other seafarers out there
Good segment Chief! Takes me back to many years ago as a "Roustabout" doing oilfield and off-shore construction and maintenance. Jobs were very similar. We did everything from garbage collection to working on heavy equipment maintenance and rebuild crews for massive industrial turbines, pumps, compressors and etc. Most could not tolerate it for more than a year or two.
Thanks Chief! That's all we want, as your most viewers ask; what is life as a seaman is like? Thank you for providing us your videos explaining that. You do a fantastic job of describing and showing us the life of a professional sea merchant sailor. Love it! Thank you so much for your efforts in sharing your experience. Much appreciated!
Chief MAKOi,
Thank you for making these videos and giving the public an inside view of ship life. Your videos are informative and thoughtfully edited. I wish you the best in the future and look forward to seeing new videos.
Best regards.
Jerry Mineer. Ohio, USA
I love the behind the scenes engineering information you provide in your videos - always been fascinated with ocean going ships. Thanks!
Deck department staff must be really working hard and round the clock. Their work never ends it seems whether the vessel is sailing or anchored or while loading and unloading cargo. Hope they are adequately compensated like other staff and officers.
Your best one yet. Absolutly perfectly done Chief MAKOi!!!
One of the most important duties onboard, maintenance, poor maintenance, things fall apart. Maintenance is ongoing, in port and at sea. Boatswains (deck department) need to stay on task constantly it can be extremely demanding and very dangerous. Were it not for the deck crews, ships would turn into rust buckets. Of course maintenance is but one of the duties of the AB's and Boatswain's gang. As you said, deck watches, wheel watches, it goes on. I have often thought that the deck gangs don't always get the respect they deserve for the hard work that they do. Thanks Chief for another great video production, well done!!!!
I'd like to see some more of what you eat on an average day or the crew spending time just hanging out together watching TV, playing and watching videos, playing games and just every day comradery along with associating during meal time. The things you might do at home just hanging out and enjoying time with your home family because I imagine crew members can get close to one another like a family also . Thanks Chief.
I have an upcoming episode about that.
happy seafarer day to everyone ! Thanks for your constantly hardwork
Congrats CHIEF...

Good stuff Chief!!
Love your vids, new changes coming, sooooooo... keep it coming
Nice, nag i-improve na ang audio quality ng video mo Chief!
Re the rust removal and repainting, I like the attention to detail, but it's an awful lot of hard work, and very slow at that, especially on such a large ship. It is a never ending task! We have a saying, "It's like the Forth Bridge!". 🙂.
CHIEF ENGINE DEPARTMENT NEXT PLEASE!🙏😊
Hi Chief, im not a seafarer but a chem engr "landman". You sure have a career ahead of you after retirement and surely will give most of our good TV host/youtuber a run for their money. Seriously, do you have a journalism background?
I've been amazed with your Life at Sea series and have been enjoying watching other channels too! I gotta ask though, I currently wear eyeglasses with a -2.0 grade. Will that be a bother for requirements? I'm still currently at a maritime school for BSMT and quite nervous about that... 😐
Dang, missed the premiere... Very informative and nice video though!
Hi sir chief MAKOI i'm enjoy this video thinks sir
Very nice job,i want to be a seaman someday.
Hello Chief, being myself from Maine, I was wondering if you ever meet seafarers from the Maine Maritime school ? Ive always been told that they graduate some very fine cadets !! Great video sir.
Hey, how is all of the cargo unloaded? i mean when there is so little cargo left, that you can't unload it with the crane's shovel thingy?
I remember my grandfather everytime i watch your video chief. He is also a Chief Engineer like you, he died on board his ship last april in Argentina. After 2 months, His body arrived last monday 😭😭 Rest in Peace tay
Sorry to hear that.
Thanks Chief!
Kodos sir cheif makoi😍👏
This episode points a giant red arrow at one of the several reasons I believe automated ships are impractical.
Nice episode salamat sir
