If you have not done it yet, you should do a top 8 changes to magic the gathering. I'm thinking things like the removal of manna burn, the banning of banding, the change in the legendary rule, ect. I'd like to see that.
Seismic Swans. That gives me sweet memories. Played against some of those back in a nationals qualifier in -08. They just straight up lost to my Sudden Deaths.
It played Glimpse of Nature, Heritage Druid and a lot of cheap elves, to turn each creature into a mana and a card, then you can use all the elves you produce a large Predator Dragon or a large Grapeshot.
Mirrodin standard wasn't broken by arcbound ravager, it was broken by skullclamp and the artifact lands, all six of which were banned in standard within a couple of months of modular/affinity just winning absolutely everything. Should have mentioned that in this vid too....
It didn't "break" the format though. Breaking the format means it comes out of nowhere and takes the format by storm. Jar was stupidly obvious as a broken card the moment it came out, and that's why it was banned so quickly. No one broke out with it; it was immediately degenerate. Like Tolarian Academy before it, or Fluctuator and then every Cycle card costs 2. Nothing from Urza's was game-breaking, innovative, or interesting. It was obviously broken standalone cards that required zero thought, and also circumvented player interaction.
in terms of power level, i was disappointed to not see vengevine for legacy, it was the last piece to a puzzle that turned a traditionally decent and efficient engine (survival) into one of the most busted decks ever, it completely broke an entire eternal format, then we had mental misstep obsolete every deck in a format except 2... legacy gets no love :(
It didn't "break" a format. Like the Jar comments above, it has to be a complete surprise. Delver decks were obviously good early on, and just hung around forever. It didn't come in and completely surprise a major tournament field and subsequently become the fad.
the problem is, to me it's spoiler. If you did the same thing for a movie, commenting when each fight seen with who, and any romantic scenes, or any deaths, it would be a spoiler. sorta the same thing here

they've done top 8 rules changes actually
aswell as top 8 magic shake ups in history... duh

2:49 "blah blah top 8 blah" HOLY... THE WORLD STILL NEEDS ME
I would like to see thoughts on the Peasant/Pauper format.
Seismic Swans. That gives me sweet memories. Played against some of those back in a nationals qualifier in -08. They just straight up lost to my Sudden Deaths.
god I miss these :(
I love how LSV and Cheon used to be the rogue guys trying to beat the format. All those stories are so awesome
Channelfireball should include this in their description.
Didn’t Shota initiate the Cawblade deck? Or no?
what deck is he talking about at 9:30 ?
+Paul Ahrenholtz - Legacy Elves, I think.
Does TSG have a hockey show? Is LSV on it?
HAHAHAHA $12 Tibalt, but $8 Karn.
+Jayfeather Y.T. $15 liliana of the veil...
+C3lley Gaming lol, i can't believe a playset of Tibalts was $50 at one point.
Mox Opal 8$ good old times...
Tropical island and tundra at 70$, I'm crying a little bit right now
That's the buy list price. Only what they'll pay you for it, not what you would pay for it.
still, a world i'd like to live in
whats a dredge deck?
Where would eye of ugin fit in this list
Yep this should be a LSV favorite.
That's GP Columbus 2007 actually when GP Flash happened. That's the GP where Zac Hill made a name for himself with Owen and many other names.
You didn't talk about the tempered steel deck you guys ran at worlds? Broke that tourney... but G/R ramp bat you. Still, it was a huge break.
What about Affinity?
mental misstep broke legacy.... not let one deck become op.... just every deck played that card... even goblins...
Ah, yes format breaks. PT OGW. Bam.
Request: Top 8 cards which where most in a top 8 of the week
no jund?
No Faeries or Jund?
1:15 Karn liberated $8 lol...
lol I was just about to say the same thing
Taiga at 20$
Ravager Affinity??
What is your confusion?
haven't seen it yet, but I'm predicting it
It played Glimpse of Nature, Heritage Druid and a lot of cheap elves, to turn each creature into a mana and a card, then you can use all the elves you produce a large Predator Dragon or a large Grapeshot.
This is the second video now that I've seen Bonefire of the Damned on sale.
Mirrodin standard wasn't broken by arcbound ravager, it was broken by skullclamp and the artifact lands, all six of which were banned in standard within a couple of months of modular/affinity just winning absolutely everything. Should have mentioned that in this vid too....
4:57 My last girlfriend gave me bonefire of the damned...some cream and some antibiotics cleared it right up.
Am I just a noob or should survival have definitely been on this list?
DO A top 8: worst ptq mess ups
I have seen this twice and I still think that not even an honorable mention to broken jar is a major oversight.

How far we have strayed from God
13:20 "Bonefire of the Damned"...
OK, top 8 format breakers in the last 5-6 years
JTMS #1
Top 8 Generals for Commander!!!
@7:28 ahahaha, bigger fish, whatt??? Shaun knows it too.
Looking at TSG being genuinely disgusted by Luis' good natured stories about winning totally makes sense knowing what we know now....
What do we know now?
My spider sense is tingling about Arcbound Ravager....
deliver top 8 every tourney in last month
Oh that's right.
WTF, where was the affinity nightmare that caused massive quits?
Predicting Cawblade as number one.
Top 8 cards that keep people honest.
That's 2005. I think.
im foreeeing jace being in the top 5 for this topic
Cavern of Souls 17.50 :(
+CommanderX3001 And $15 snapcaster
+Vessace 15$ Liliana
I wonder where eldrazi would have gone on this list.
hm, wonder why it wasnt on there, oh well i forgot about stoneforge. eeeesh

F-F-F-Format Breaker!
in terms of power level, i was disappointed to not see vengevine for legacy, it was the last piece to a puzzle that turned a traditionally decent and efficient engine (survival) into one of the most busted decks ever, it completely broke an entire eternal format, then we had mental misstep obsolete every deck in a format except 2... legacy gets no love :(
wearing a ranger shirt after they got eliminated... come on tristan!!
at $15 snappy and $15 liliana
ZOMG ANGEL DELVER SHOULD BE ON THE LIST
#banponder
*ahem*JACE, THE MIND SCULPTOR*ahem*
I have one thing to say "1997".
heheh, Tibalt was down at 12 dollars.
Don't read the comments before you watch the video. You do this to yourself...
And now dredge is broken again
At 05:00 Bonefire of the Damned.
LMAO ya'll freaking out about $8 karns and $20 snaps but holy shit sub $100 dual lands sign me the fuck up
Caw-Blade? Blame Brian Kibler.
mmm
Are you fucking kidding me? Buying dual lands for 25 dollars to 65 dollars? O_o
Lsv the best
It didn't break it for long, but modern 2010-2011 Blazing Shoal + Inkmoth Nexus.
Tundra -- $70.
Hahahahhahahahahahahaha
...And then Bonfire of the Damned was printed
Survival was legacy only so it wouldn't have made it. However it was a beast.
Affinity isn't broken.
Don't hate the game; hate the player.
Nothing about Delver? Jesus that card/archtype is goddamn EVERYWHERE!
It didn't "break" a format. Like the Jar comments above, it has to be a complete surprise. Delver decks were obviously good early on, and just hung around forever. It didn't come in and completely surprise a major tournament field and subsequently become the fad.
hahaha, the video just froze at 6:22 XD
Bayou $40
Skullclamp broke format
Armageddon would also destroy the Thopter/Dark Depths combo.
Olivia Voldaren $2.00 Snapcaster Mage $15.00...ME GUSTA!
Too bad they didn't go back a little further. They could have talked about affinity.
the problem is, to me it's spoiler. If you did the same thing for a movie, commenting when each fight seen with who, and any romantic scenes, or any deaths, it would be a spoiler. sorta the same thing here
Seige rhino
Siege Rhino hasn't broken a format. It's just too efficient, is all.
well abzan wouldnt be the number 1 played deck (pre origins) without it lol
Abzan nowhere near dominated Standard the way Stoneforge and Jace did
