The cello version of this piece does not use false harmonics for most of the notes in the 3rd movement, it uses sul ponticello instead to achieve a similar effect. I believe it's because you simply can't do false harmonics that high on a cello?
Strange because he has some live performance of kodaly that's really sparkling with verve. He does seem reserved in his playing (at least first half)... Maybe it's the weird recording setup
He has an absolutely insane technique....
Bartok seams to sing under Starkers fingertips, his self control vibrates with every single vibrato he makes!
Mr Biro,"False" harmonices doesn't mean he's out of tune, it just means the name of the technique!
Simply genious and frightening
near the end he's saying "come on! let's go already!" haha.
he is not using false harmonics!!!!!!! its a bow technique.
It looks like both actually. Very skillfully done, though I wish he drew it out longer. It felt rushed compared to some more haunting violin versions.

Rest in peace my favourite cellist :)
pianist fails compared to Mr Starker...
2 personas son sordas jaja
alguien sabe como puedo encontrar esa harmonía en spotify?? es que no la encuentro
People... those are not false harmonics. Just harmonics.
No, they are called false harmonics or artificial harmonics, as opposed to natural harmonics.
oh my god. the false harmonics are crazy
😮
🎉❤
Bravo!
Precious!
wow, we have the same interpretations
Why isn't the pianist in the picture?
Because its not his récital 😅
Musically deprived performance.
Taste-deprived comment.
His playing is so harsh and cold. Always. Technique? Who cares, if it doesn't move you?
I don't think his playing works this well for every style, but for this it is perfect

The cello sounds like something between a grunt and a neigh; quite disappointing for such a renown performer; had to quit after the second dance.
Where did you go ...to celine Dion ?
