A very good video, I like the idea of showing an easy to set up build for new players that still has a lot of room for improvement. With the right gear and gems this build too can do extreme damage while being completely safe from reflect damage and Lightning Thorns. It also has room for creative use of other gems, such as Elemental Proliferation, or placing Fire Trap inside Remote Mine to get all the passive damage bonuses at once.
I believe that the intention of showing these builds is not to suggest what is the build that does more damage in total, the top dps, the build "OP" etc.., the intent is to suggest players to grasp the "heart" of the game, that is the creativity, the ability to "live" the game from a lot of perspectives, styles of play and so on. Fuck top dps, op builds, copies of copies of copies, and all that shit for brainless people. GGG Ty for this great game.
Well guys as already mentioned in the video the build of the week is focused on showing a viable build which isnt way too expensive to get together so escpecially the incoming playerbase has sth to play around with if they are not in the mood to create their own build, I for my part do like getting ideas like these on my own just as many other people also do, but I also know some not wanting to spend that much time into the game with theorycrafting and testing out just to see if they might like it. So the idea behind this is actually quite awesome imo, will help many people to have sth to start with. I just wonder if it wouldnt be an awesome idea to have an area on the website with all the shown builds listed, Im sure there are many people not knowing that "Build of the Week" or this channel in general exist
Thank you Chris & GGG. For us who haven't had enough time like some, to accumulate wealth, and for us who have not had the luck that some others have had, I can appreciate a BotW that involves a rags to riches sort of focus. More like this, please!
I think this build shows off the ability to combine the new gems, it may not be the best, but ultimately it's up to you, the player, to come up with new and interesting permutations.
Part of it is the build, part of it is Chris. My noob friendly trapper is far more effective because utilizes both the lightning and fire traps while it is as tanky as a standard maru build and you use a bow for smaller packs like half the ones shown here. What i want to see is a black hole trap which sucks mobs into the center, then a trapper may be useful in parties
So, a Scion/Ranger comes and trows 2-3 spectral swords in one second and clears the entire screen. Meanwhile, this shadow guy is still placing traps to kill 3 white monsters
Thats pretty laughable. Melee has always been viable, its ranged that has had the tough time since they dont spec into Str without Iron Grip and therefore rely on dodge, shields, and range. Flicker-strike enemies seem like a pretty fast death.
A build focusing more heavily on Fire Trap will do a lot better in terms of efficiency than one focusing on traps as a whole. Utilizing the elemental and fire damage nodes that the Shadow class has early access to then heading into the trap damage/throwing speed nodes will start you off on a very strong foot and actually make the build merciless-viable. Use the searing touch while leveling and switch to a spell damage/fire gem sceptre once level 60 to blow through zones.
naa that build looks like fun only.. for standard league... but probably not the best for hardcore leagues... still awesome video.. keep up the good work Chris
I was thinking of making a trapper build myself my skill of choice would be something like arc tho it has insane output, but there is also fire to chaos conversion that would be insane and lightning to chaos....
Jesus, what's with all you whiners? "Waa they nerfed my auras, they nerfed my cotd, they made me make choices on my gems and their levels when I wanted to get all the auras with endless molten shells!" You all sound like a bunch of schoolgirls.
Usually when ppl talk like this they have one lvl 40 scrubcore toon. Get to the part of the game where the ele damage on enemies isn't even balanced for 75% max resist then talk to me about survivability. Then again you can die on hardcore now and have your toon restored so I guess it's not that big of a deal.
vassago419 I'm level 72 on nemesis running maps with 77% all resist and -40% chaos with no problems from elemental mobs or ele/phys reflect packs, if you build for hardcore you wont run into these problems. I agree with what ever balance changes GGG makes they have done amazing so far, whining about an OP build being nerfed is just stupid. I get it though its really fun being unstoppable and it really sucks to have to redo your build after getting to high end content but that's half the fun of the game is the challenge it brings.
This build will be better with just fire trap+lightning trap+multitrap+ele prolifer. Or just volatile mines with mine+fireball+chance to ignite+ fire penetration, specing into burn chance.
where can i send my build that trivialises endgame content ? want to siggest my 70% block /spell block mom eb incinerator, 6 endurance chrages +mom +sick leech from gmp 6 linked icinerate. double piety yesterday.and boss dmg chain torture chamber in 3 player map . so much fun
Hey guys! I'm a total noob in the game. I'm leveling up this build, but i keep getting stuck on the trap gems. I need more dexterity to keep leveling them up. Where do i get the dexterity needed to level up trap gems? I keep looking at the skill tree but i don't see many in there. I've been improvising with +dex on armor and i grabbed the alacrity +30 dex node but now i need more dexterity again... Should i just stay with the build and level the gems later? Thanks for the help!
The last build of the week featured Spectral Throw. The current #1 on Nemesis ladder is level 91 and is using Spectral Throw. So Spectral Throw has hardly been butchered.
I would love to see this as a finished build. As is it is pretty underwhelming. Just looks like any old build in Cruel difficult: unpolished and slow. Seem pretty boring laying down mines and then running away to detonate them. Takes way too much time imo. But I guess if this build were too powerful they would have to nerf it right ;)
this video should have been about str based fire and lightning trap build. the build in this video has to throw out like 4 traps to kill a pack. i can throw out one multi trap and kill the whole screen. it also doesnt take a lot of gear and almost all the gems can be self found. Str trap build blows this one out of the water.
The clear speed is crap and the character loses like 40% of its life on every physical hit (while almost never evading). This build doesn't meet the criteria "easy for new players to make while still being effective in higher level content", it's just bad.
To be honest, showing builds before merciless is entirely pointless, in my opinion. Literally my first ever character made it to "the end of cruel", and that character was absolutely dreadful in terms of gear and passives. If you're playing softcore you just die a lot and it's not problem. Teaching people early on how to avoid dying in the first place, and preparing them for the really hard content in merciless is what I think is important.
Seems like a nice build, but very boring to me, i couldn't stand not actually fighting and just laying down mines and kiting. i guess that is because i am more of an aggressive player
thought about that after i made my comment, and gave it some thought, i may give it a shot down the road because i do have a habit of gathering as many enemies as i can and then killing them all in 1 huge slaughter fest in every game like this lol, a lot of fun.
I build a similar trap build with lighting trap and fire trap. the mana cost is insane, but the damage is shit. trap build is good for leveling but very bad for end game.
Uh no. Trap is amazing end game. Large AOE, high damage, high survivability and no need to worry about reflect. There is a Trapper Streamer that plays nememsis. Hes lvl 83+
quite wrong , built correctly and with the good gems you totally ruin end game maps especially in large packs ( i have to admit that single target is a pb ) a proliferating multi lightning trap and some concentrated fire traps really work well in my mind !
The build doesn't look very good. 1.5K health means he will die pretty soon, if it's taking him 3 casts of fire traps to kill a pack in merc ledge at lvl 50ish... He is doing something wrong.
I want to watch hard builds who need alot of gear so i can farm along time and be very happy when i am done farming the hard gear ,not a fucking shit specc who doesnt even need anything sry. all about challenge
Ggg I love you but your nerfs to codt gem was stupid. It was what finaly made melee viable in this game. Now it's back to ranged if you got any damn sence . Plz undo it
Such a lame and boring gameplay. Run away and let them burn in slow motion. In the same time I would kill 10x more monster in Diablo 3. And much more epic! :)
This build will be better with just fire trap+lightning trap+multitrap+ele prolifer. Or just volatile mines with mine+fireball+chance to ignite+ fire penetration, specing into burn chance.
i love that you show a bigger variety of builds and not only the top tier clear speed farming ones!
A very good video, I like the idea of showing an easy to set up build for new players that still has a lot of room for improvement. "Next week we will be looking for builds we wish to nerf immediately rather than later" Fixed for accuracy.
"Pure power">>Kripp's discharge
I believe that the intention of showing these builds is not to suggest what is the build that does more damage in total, the top dps, the build "OP" etc.., the intent is to suggest players to grasp the "heart" of the game, that is the creativity, the ability to "live" the game from a lot of perspectives, styles of play and so on. "see you next time :3" awwwww chris you're too cute
I bet this build is really good with prolif on those fireballs. The burn damage must be insane from the fireballs.
A build focusing more heavily on Fire Trap will do a lot better in terms of efficiency than one focusing on traps as a whole. Utilizing the elemental and fire damage nodes that the Shadow class has early access to then heading into the trap damage/throwing speed nodes will start you off on a very strong foot and actually make the build merciless-viable. did not know how the remote mine worked, that was pretty cool. Im sure its not the most amazing build but its a really different play style
Can you make a Dominus like build on your character and reduce your opponent's fps by 779%?
Also digging the lag machine on his stage. BZZZZZD BZZZZZD BZZZZZD. Brb having a seizure.
naa that build looks like fun only.. for standard league... but probably not the best for hardcore leagues... still awesome video.. keep up the good work Chris
This video series name should be build of the month
no kidding.
I have a build similar to this, I have conversion trap to stall while I stack remote mines for when the conversion trap wears off.
Great vid and game.. see you online!
Nice build, thanks!!
Great build!
LOL! I love how you are having the community divulge all the overpowered builds so they can be nerfed. :D
I was thinking of making a trapper build myself my skill of choice would be something like arc tho it has insane output, but there is also fire to chaos conversion that would be insane and lightning to chaos....
I CAME WHEN I SAW THIS IN MY INBOX!!!
Jesus, what's with all you whiners? "Waa they nerfed my auras, they nerfed my cotd, they made me make choices on my gems and their levels when I wanted to get all the auras with endless molten shells!" You all sound like a bunch of schoolgirls.

Chris in 2013: plays the game, knows what is what
Chris in 2020: "look at all those new, shiny MTX and bugged league releases!"
can someone explain to me why did he use concentrated effect support gem on fireball? as far as i know CE does not increase fireball damage....
I've tested and I say it again... CE does not increase Fireball damage although Fireball is AoE skill
This build will be better with just fire trap+lightning trap+multitrap+ele prolifer. Or just volatile mines with mine+fireball+chance to ignite+ fire penetration, specing into burn chance.
Is That You AUSTRALIA! 1:31
where can i send my build that trivialises endgame content ?
want to siggest my 70% block /spell block mom eb incinerator, 6 endurance chrages +mom +sick leech from gmp 6 linked icinerate. double piety yesterday.and boss dmg chain torture chamber in 3 player map . so much fun
If your hardest content is trivialised by (some) builds, that sounds like a design issue that needs to be fixed.
Build of the month more like it.
any build can do pre map content with any gear
This makes me wanna make a trapper with bursting potential by mine for bosses
where is episode 3 ??????????????
Hey guys!
I'm a total noob in the game. I'm leveling up this build, but i keep getting stuck on the trap gems. I need more dexterity to keep leveling them up. Thanks for the help!
He skipped those really awesome spell damage/ele damage nodes at the start of the tree. There's no reason not to take them...
Kripp's discharger for Season 2 Episode 3 then?
I reckon pierce, fork or chain could work nicely
I'm guessing there wasn't alot of submissions
Are you going to butcher these gems as bad as you did the last build of the week gems?
how hard did they nerf the gems?
So mad.
Number1HaloFreak They slightly toned down "Cast on damage taken" that's all.
Alkoluegenial but I loved my infinite immortal call, its totally balanced!
The last build of the week featured Spectral Throw.
The current #1 on Nemesis ladder is level 91 and is using Spectral Throw.
So Spectral Throw has hardly been butchered.
Good Game Generators. People are just salty cause they belive in a game that is from the verry start, perfectly made just for them
Did you ever tried Dominus with this gear in Cruel? (Dont mentioned merciless) DID U?? DID YOU?
So how long until you new this like all other builds in this series?
I would love to see this as a finished build. As is it is pretty underwhelming. Just looks like any old build in Cruel difficult: unpolished and slow. Seem pretty boring laying down mines and then running away to detonate them. Takes way too much time imo. But I guess if this build were too powerful they would have to nerf it right ;)
This might possibly be the most boring build I have seen GGG show so far... *falls asleep*
yeah it is dull. I think the point was for it to be a "get off the ground" build.
SecWh Directory there are so much more effective builds for starting from scratch, but they wanted to show off the new improvements to trap/mines.
At 2:34 did you actually kill any of those skeletons? 3 traps and you have to wait for recharge, like to see that in a boss fight.
this video should have been about str based fire and lightning trap build. the build in this video has to throw out like 4 traps to kill a pack. i can throw out one multi trap and kill the whole screen. it also doesnt take a lot of gear and almost all the gems can be self found. Str trap build blows this one out of the water.
Oh boy now my fire trap build will get nerfed.
i tried to make a trapper once, but then i deleted the character
cool build but it doesn't feel very efficient when clearing mobs
I suggest rethinking this if you ever decide to play a race.
Hahahhahahaha this build is awful. There, I said it. But I still enjoy the sound of Chris's voice :D
Well soon it has been a month. Is this build of the week or build of the month?
Hey GGG. Ask some random youtuber or something to do these videos for you if you are 2 busy to do them...
The clear speed is crap and the character loses like 40% of its life on every physical hit (while almost never evading). This build doesn't meet the criteria "easy for new players to make while still being effective in higher level content", it's just bad.

Seems like a nice build, but very boring to me, i couldn't stand not actually fighting and just laying down mines and kiting. i guess that is because i am more of an aggressive player
i play as an aggressive trapper.. agro everything on the map and then fire/lgihtning trap it all down. feels soo good
thought about that after i made my comment, and gave it some thought, i may give it a shot down the road because i do have a habit of gathering as many enemies as i can and then killing them all in 1 huge slaughter fest in every game like this lol, a lot of fun.
Hes lvl 83+
That's just because lightning trap is now shit.
killerkonnat are you kidding me? i melt mobs with lightning trap at lvl 80
quite wrong , built correctly and with the good gems you totally ruin end game maps especially in large packs ( i have to admit that single target is a pb )
a proliferating multi lightning trap and some concentrated fire traps really work well in my mind !
TossGear link me to the streamer.
WHere the hell can i get this build!!
Next patch they'll nerf remote mine.
Remote mine is painful
Fuck GGG. All they do is nerf nerf nerf anything that could possibly make this game genuinely fun to control and less tedious to play.
Can't wait for this build to be nerfed. Path of Nerfs.
haters gonna hate
The build doesn't look very good.
1.5K health means he will die pretty soon, if it's taking him 3 casts of fire traps to kill a pack in merc ledge at lvl 50ish... He is doing something wrong.
So build of the week is a once a month thing... aptly named videoseries..
this one was a bit boring duh :/
If this build is effective, i am sure it will be nerfed soon. Thats what you guys in GGG are doing, right?
Aww, someone's still sad they can't crutch on CoDT.
JJChris1
Not to mention you can die on hardocre now and get your toon restored. Company is changing their face since the "release"
Meh - next nerf: traps
Build of the weak ...
Extreme slooooow kill. Traps totally nerfed now :( Useless low-dmg low-survavable build.
hris vilson frum ji ji ji
This build sucks to be honest, I can't see it deal with end game as effectively as any normal build...
This Build is bad and you should feel bad.
11/12/13
if you try boring builds like that you will quit after 1 week try fun builds guys pleas
Very slow build
Slow and weak glass cannon. Why this build at "Build of the week'?
Because the last gems they showcased turned out to be a disaster lol
I. .. not surprised
I want to watch hard builds who need alot of gear so i can farm along time and be very happy when i am done farming the hard gear ,not a fucking shit specc who doesnt even need anything sry. all about challenge
u mad bro?
tkm2210 no just another elitist ;-)
Remember, lots of people just started and are still learning this game.
Ggg I love you but your nerfs to codt gem was stupid. It was what finaly made melee viable in this game. Now it's back to ranged if you got any damn sence . Plz undo it
sorry, but its to risky, to boring and its clearing speed is to slow to progress
lol this build look really boring :>
This build looks absolutely pathetic.....
Such a lame and boring gameplay. Run away and let them burn in slow motion.
In the same time I would kill 10x more monster in Diablo 3. And much more epic! :)
never dislike any of GGG video..this is my first..i don't like.
HAHAHA this build looks horrible
Did you ever tried Dominus with this gear in Cruel? (Dont mentioned merciless) DID U?? DID YOU?
This build will be better with just fire trap+lightning trap+multitrap+ele prolifer. Or just volatile mines with mine+fireball+chance to ignite+ fire penetration, specing into burn chance.
