As a 4th generation born North Dakotan, I really appreciate the effort you put into making this.
Our state and its people doesn't really get the recognition that I think it deserves.
ND is a great state. I love it. You're right, most people know nothing about it or think its boring. Let them! More for us ;) check out the "Ainlessly Wandering" videos I made a couple years ago exploring ND. I'd live there.
@@backwatersandbackroads I'll do that! Browsing your channel now. You put up some good content!
Wow.....great timing. I've been looking up graves of old family members. One was a great, great, great Uncle of mine. From Scotland, immigrated to Canada, then to Vermont, and then to Newnan Georgia. Civil War General, and after the War became a US Congressman. Turns out I lived across the highway from the cemetery he's buried in 53 years ago and never knew about him. Thanks for a very interesting video.
Can I ask how you're going about your research? I'd like to do some of that myself. Thank you dap! :)
@@backwatersandbackroads I had found out about this man through a lot of old photos and papers my Uncle shipped to me years ago, before he died. So I had told a Nephew of mine about it and I sent him some of the stuff my Uncle had sent me. I told him about an old mansion in that GA town the general lived in and about a statue somewhere in the town also. So a few days ago the Nephew sent me pics of a mansion and the grave of my old general. Said....is this it? Sure enough it was. So in the pics he e-mailed there's something called "find a grave". So I go on there and find pics of graves of my family going back 3-4 generations in different states. Do you have a facebook account I can pvt message you the pics and the find a grave link.
@@dabprod This is very helpful. I found the site you mention and going to see if I can find some decedents mostly from my mom's side. Thank you!
@@backwatersandbackroads You're welcome. Good luck.
the church is amazing ! thanks for sharing this
So touching. That was a really lovely tribute. Betcha Hazel was smiling somewhere.
I felt so lucky Eva, to stumble across this true story...and then go find out more about it in person. I could have done a better job on the video, but I was still learning. I'm still learning now. ;) Thank you for continuing to find value in my videos
I thought the video was just perfect like all of your videos, Mr. Brenton. You are super talented. I think the production value of all of them are just great. I watch at least one of your videos a day. I watched one with deer swimming across the river yesterday. That was something else. Big hugs and love to you and Wavey!!! You guys are the coolest.@@backwatersandbackroads
@evawinchester6122 Thank you for your kind words Eva ;) I'm very happy you like our videos.
Solid video as always. The stone church appears to be constructed using the "slipform" method. Example: stone stacked inside of made form, then mortar poured into form. When cured enough take form and slide up for next layer, repeat process. So there ya go..
That's how the Nearings did it in Maine (and Vermont) Check out a book called "Living the Good Life" I visited their homestead a long time ago on a motorcycle trip :)
@@backwatersandbackroads you referenced the thickness of wall. I had chance to visit 70+ castles during my 2 years in Scotland. Some if not most walls were 12ft thick, solid stone and mortar. I still correspond with friends there. A wonderful life experience.
@@bokendrick6553 That is so amazing. I don't know why exactly, but I love old churches and farm houses..anything old and with character.
Great story..
Thanks for doing the dig around to show it..
As for the speakers on the posts,, in a city called Ipswich in Queensland Australia where I lived one time,, we had a problem with wild teenagers gathering and making problems in the city area..
We installed speakers and played BARRY MANALOW music LOUD when they gathered there..
It worked....They moved on.....(Sorry about that Barry)...lol
That is funny Slim. My hometown back in California did the same thing to public spaces, except it was classical music :) Seems to work worldwide on pesky teenagers :) Quick Note: I sometimes see your comments pop up here, but they disappear before I can reply. I think YT and or Pooh man is messing with your account. Always happy to see you pop up. Thanks man :)
@@backwatersandbackroads ....I know about my comments GOING MISSING...
The CCP is really pissed with me....I just say enough to get the feedback on other sites AND then they disappear...YT cancelled my account a couple of months ago BUT I am back.. Even with my same name....
Great video! You seem to have a great love for North Dakota? I spent 5 years in that cold place and while the people were great I never could get used to the desolation and plainness of that area.
I much perfer hills and hollers , Wish you would do this type video in say Harlen County Kentucky?
I'll look into it. :) Harlen, KY....Let me see what I can find. Thanks for the tip Charles :)
I noticed there are different birth years on the 2 headstones. One is dated 1904 and the other that was under the snow is 1905.
I noticed that also. I haven't seen it brought up in all the literature I have either. There is a book written about it, even a free version online here somewhere. I'll try to find it and add it to the links. Thank you Denise :)
Denise, did you also notice where they stated on the first gravestone in the cemetery that Hazel was 16? She would have been 15 (April 11, 1904-March 15-16, 1920).
Some remember Nodak, thank you 💗
Oh, thank you for doing this.
Interesting, thanks for that story about Center
MATTHEW 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Thank you Cindy :) Beautiful
That’s were I live and I’m Calleigh’s STARCK
Nice little town;)
Brenton, Thank you for putting so much into your stories for us. You are an inspiration for my travels.
Thanks for appreciating them Robert :)

Nice! I bet it's warm :)
See... now I just love this kinda stuff.
Thanks man :)
Great video! Can’t beat the kindness of small town folk. Being that Hazel’s story is so well known, I was not expecting the clerk to have to hunt around for that volume of the records. It’s so cool that you actually followed up on the monument’s message.
"Stranger. Read it"....I had no choice! LOL. Thanks man :)
Well done. You have a creative way about setting a mood... neat vibe. Thx
Thanks Brat :) See you this summer...somewhere. :)

Looking forward to the barge coming through town.
Great video Brent. I always like the history videos that you do. Now even more people will know the story of Hazel Miner. Sometimes You tube is worth a shit.
Thank you Spike. I have another idea for the next episode. Unsung heroes...love them :)
Great video Brenton I love the history of Hazel Miner so sad true hero saving her siblings. Thank you so much. Looking forward to more historical videos like this on your next journey. 😊😊
Such a sad story of courage! I'm sorry for your loss. I know you really loved her.
I did, I'll never get it over it.
@@backwatersandbackroads Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
@@AA3Anon Can you rent me that time machine, so I can go back a hundred years or so? I'll make a few stops in the mid-00's also....buy some more bitcoin :)
@@backwatersandbackroads Yes. If you don't mind, I'll go with you. I'm tired.
Most excellent report! I checked her story out when you first brought it to our attention. Very sad, such a short life, hopefully she has eternal life for her deed. I love the back roads. Wouldn't mind a place like that to settle about 800 miles south of there. I've had too many winters. Cheers!
ND i one of the those places where, you just can't win with the weather. Wicked cold winters, often baking summers....and then there's the wind. Still I love the place :)
Parked for the night in New England post apocalyptic snowmageddon watching Back Waters and Back Roads. Was almost afraid, and half expected to see you rode the scooter there.
That poor soul, could not imagine perishing that way.
Imagine freezing to death sleeping in the metal tent while shooting footage for this video. It's like Stobe the Hobo, got hit by a train and his last video thumb nail is a sign that says "The End" Thanks for watching man. Please take your time on the roads out there.
I'm liking the concept, but what do you have against telling the story? I wanted you to tell it, I didn't want to read it.
I thought about that. Also some.voice over. Not easy to do. I'll try it on the next one. Thinking "The Root Beer Lady" in what is now the boundary waters in Minnesota
Great video! I'm planning on doing some of this in the year to come. Visited a place called, Stone Post Kansas some years ago. Very interesting place. On the same road trip I visited Comanche Rock. Me and a friend read a lot of the names on the rock. Good videos brother!
Thank you sir! ;)
