I never thought that dehydration from skating would be the medical issue that would land me in the hospital, but it did. Unfortunately, it also caused and/or led to the discovery of an intestinal disease that I'll be carrying with me for the rest of my life if the diagnosis was correct. All from underestimating the amount of water I was consuming. Please learn from my mess and always stay hydrated!
Part of the reason for this video is to explain what happened to me in hopes that other people don't fall into the same situation, and also to ask for your help covering my hospital stay and future appointments. Being uninsured in the US is a financial burden like none other, and your boy needs an assist keeping up.
That's why I've got these super sweet t-shirts, shop rags, sweat towels, stickers, and posters available for pre-sale to help me out while also getting some rad gear into your life.
Link to that stuff HERE: matt-burke.square.site/
I hope y'all like this stuff as much as I enjoyed figuring it all out!
*Please keep in mind that this is a PRE-SALE until July 11th. Everything will begin shipping toward the end of July, so please be patient as we get everything printed & sorted out! *
All relevant information for products are listed in the item description at the store at matt-burke.square.site/.
Thanks so much to all of you that checked up on me over on Instagram, I appreciated all the kind words and whatnot. It made my hospital stay a bit easier when I was able to use my phone.
Find me over there on Instagram and let's hang out @mattburke

I have been living with diverticular disease for more that 20 years. What helps me to avoid flare ups is to eat a high fiber diet. Lots of vegetables and fruit. Lean protein too like chicken breast and fish. Stay away from fried stuff. Work on your gut heath and hydrate. Will say a prayer for you too. God bless.

It made me feel sad to hear what you went through and I'm happy to know that you're doing better and you're encouraging others to take care of themselves.

Wow! That all sounded more than a tad terrifying! Glad to see you're doing better now and hopefully the tests will show nothing sinister. There's a tendency to be 'reactive' regarding self-care, in that we fail to take precautions because we believe ourselves invincible; this is a clear message to the contrary. Thanks for sharing. Stay well. 🙏

I've found that I often don't notice I'm becoming dehydrated until its too late. The only thing that helped was getting those electrolyte packets from the pharmacy. But I've never seen anything like this. I'm glad you made this video as its a real danger for us stubbornly trying to get good coming back to blading in the summer.

Glad your getting better! As a chef of 23 years, I’ve seen, and felt severe dehydration, and it is no laughing matter!! Can’t even imagine it with everything else. Be well my friend, and I will see you next time.
P.S. Thanks for the bundle option!

First and foremost I just want to say that I am extremely happy to see you back on your feet and doing better! Secondly I want you to know how inspiring you have been to me and how much I enjoy watching your videos. You were the first rollerblading channel I started watching when I decided to get back into skating myself, and I was happy to see someone that loves it as much as I do making content! Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Stay safe out there matt and I can’t wait to see you shredding again!

Feels good to be back on my feet and slowly getting back to feeling more normal!
That's awesome that I was the first channel you found! I didn't realize that, but that is awesome.
One of these days when I get myself back to traveling, we'll have to session and get me a new tattoo to bring home with me.
Trying to stay safe, my man, you do the same!

It was a wild, wild ride, man. Can't even deny it.
My daughter and I watched your video and saw you talking about the heat out there and I had to explain how our heat & what y'all are used to are 2 totally different things.
Hate that y'all are getting hit by that kinda heat, make sure to keep that water on hand! This stuff is no joke

Ever since I turned about 23 I swore off skating before 5pm in the summer. The heat/humidity doesn’t really bother me… Direct sunlight is the grim reaper! Hopefully once you get back to 100% we can have you over for a session :)

I just spent 6 days in the hospital from diverticulosis. It makes you so sick. My pain was terribly bad. 6 days of intravenous fluid and antibiotics. Came home to 12 days of antibiotics. Given 14 more days of antibiotics. Tomorrow will be my 3rd CT Scan. Great shirt!🎉

Update; I ended up having a
Sigmoidectomy resectioning and stoma I am recovering slowly. Doc said it was the long infection and antibiotics. My body will take some time to recover. My mind is making a list of things to do. I wish I would have known to do it sooner. Thank you for the prayers and concern.

Whoa! Glad your OK man. Sounds like a overwhelming ordeal. As a health care professional, I can tell you, you didn't mess up the description of the medical stuff at all. Very articulate.
Do you ship to the UK? It says something about the address not being supported, but I may just be putting it in wrong...

    • @MattBurke820

Unfortunately I'm not shipping outside of the US at the moment until I can figure out a reasonable shipping option, but hope to be able to figure it out soon!

Was your low heart rate due to anemia or transfusions? Or just extremely healthy?? The skating probably helps with that! Glad you are well.

    • @MattBurke820
      @MattBurke820  2 роки тому +1

I have a low resting heart rate all the time because of my skating, but it was a lot lower than normal and I don’t even know why. To be honest, a lot of the hospital stay was a blur cause I was so delirious from lack of sleep and all the morphine I was on, so they could have told me and I just don’t remember haha.
Thank you, I appreciate it! 🙌🏼

Well, that's a drag. Sorry to hear about your bout with dehydration. Hope this doesn't hamper your skating. If the doctors tell you to lay off skating for awhile because of your situation...tell them to pound sand. :" Take care Matt
Oh and...my Mom had the same condition. Try to stay away from plant based foods. We really can't digest the fiber and it irritates our collen.
If you can just eat only meat, you'll feel like a new man and have perfect digestion. I'm 62 and still skating. I work-out and train hard. Being a carnivore is the only thing that enabled me to do that. It gave me a new lease on life.
Check out Medical Dr. and Surgeon Sean Baker. He's on UA-cam and has a channel. He's in his mid 50's and been a carnivore for years. Now he's a top athlete.

I've just started doing some light skating to try to get back to it, but my coordination is still off from all the meds and I lost almost all of my body mass (which wasn't much to start with!), so I'm winded real quick. It sucks, but I'll get back to where I was soon enough! (hopefully!)
