I'm being the biggest Grinch by some people's standards this year. Long story short, Christmas is 3 to 4 days of nonstop driving around to see everyone, so I've decided I'm not doing any of it this year. At all. Last year kicked my @$$ and pretty much set the tone for my mental health for this whole year. It's my Christmas too, right, so this year I've chosen to have a quiet one. Alone 😌🍬
Good for you! Taking care of yourself and your mental health is so important. There were a couple of years that we just didn’t travel at the holidays at all so we could enjoy a more relaxed Christmas at home with our kids when they were young babies. I hope it’s a restful holiday season for you!

Where do you find the putty you use in your single placer? I am still a bit new to diamond painting, so far I have completed 2. My most recent was Fairy Lights by Ivy Dolamore and DAC. I greatly appreciate all of your help along the way, I would be lost without your videos!! Also, I still use the perforated sections to guide me. I may eventually switch to washi based on seeing how much it helps you. Again thank you for all of your videos and advice!!

Just a suggestion....put new light strands on and just leave the burnt out ones. I had to replace two strands on our prelit tree this year and it takes hours to remove a strand. They are clipped, zip tied, wrapped, it was exhausting. 🎄 😢 If it helps at all, alot of us are stressed and overwhelmed at this time of year. Give yourself grace and rest when you can. ❤❤

I'm actually grateful I have no close family near so I don't have to deal with anything on the holidays. Selfish am I? Some years the holiday overwhelm is real. I’ve been feeling it this year as well- just can’t get into the holiday spirit right now. I have a feeling after you are home you’ll feel less overwhelmed and anxious and will enjoy it, so don’t beat yourself up about not feeling it right now. Also- take two weeks off your WIP if you need. I enjoy them, but I would definitely rather you take care of yourself (and takie time off to spend with family if that’s what you want. :)) And I hope the headache wasn’t too bad!

I also saw Wicked three times in the theater, (New York, Toronto and Ottawa) this weekend I saw the movie, and while it was good, and the special effects were special, it took over two hours to show what the play shows in one act. I just started working on my WIP for December from DAC- Long Distance Coven. I'm a little burnt out by DAC after these past few weeks. I have enough large DAC kits to last me a while so I was very happy to see that Make Market put out a bunch of new kits, styles, and accessories into their stores this weekend. I love their smaller canvases and snack-size kits and all the upgrades their doing to their pens and such. 😃
If it helps, reinstalling a window screen is usually super easy. They just pop back into the frame from the inside and generally have little tabs to grip to pull it into place. Our patio cover touches the bottom of my bedroom window and I used to pop the screen out all the time to let the cat in when she crawled up there.
I am not really into the holiday spirit either. I was surprised about the comments regarding the new disney kits too. I have started avoiding the VIP group or just looking at the pictures because I want this hobby to continue to bring me joy. I hope you have a great week!
I LIVE for the perforated cover that DAC uses. They do it in the same type of sections that I would normally do. The holiday season ALWAYS makes me anxious. I can't quite pinpoint why but I totally get it. For the year in review video I prefer to see the full finished canvases. I loved how you did the rainy day stash video, but for this one I would want to see it the way you have done it before with pulling them all out and showing on screen. I am working on Flower Delivery from DAC right now as I've finished my Jingle Drills canvas last week. ❤

We used wire cutters and cut all the lights off of our pre-lit tree and it quickly got them off. Then we just put the new ones from the store up. We’ve bought 2 pre-lit trees and both only lasted for one season (the lights). 🎄

When my daughter was younger I would get a backpack that she had not seen before and filled it with toys, books and treats, again that she had not seen, and that kept her busy on plane rides. Worked like a charm. Maybe that would work for your sweet boys too. For the year end review, I totally enjoy seeing your actual completed pieces. Please and I sincerely hope that you take some time for yourself. I think we all get it that you just get tired sometimes and that is perfectly ok. Just rest even if it means taking some time off of videos, although you would be totally missed.😊 We want you to be ok. Also Christmas will work out just fine. Just believe it❣️🧣🎄
Katie, you are doing great with your family and the muted Christmas feelings are normal with everything you are juggling. It’s a lot! Re son pushing out screen, I raised a similarly destructive autistic spectrum child who is now 33 yo. She’s been able to convey a lot of impulsivity and that the destruction is “satisfying.” Playing defense as the parent is exhausting! You’re doing great!
❤️ I still struggle during the holidays since my dad passed in 2005. This was his favorite time of year and with him gone it’s like the holiday spirit went away. I will say, finding diamond painting and this awesome community has helped this year.
My bottom line preference for your year in review is what ever is easiest for you! I prefer to see the actual canvases but that can be a lot for you. And truly, I saw them all during your month in review videos already. So definitely show the December ones as the actual canvas! Pictures would be ok for the other months. But really, you pick and I'll watch it however you give it to me. 🎄
Hi Katie. I had the same issue with my pre-lit tree a few years ago and I just used a couple string lights to fill in the dark areas until I was able to buy a new tree. It worked fine and was the cheap & easy solution at the time. The tree had 3 sections and the middle section wouldn’t light. We tried using the light tool to find the issue and my husband tried to fix it since he is an electrician but no luck.
I like the idea of your year end review being the style where you show your face and photos of finishes. You already showed the canvases in the month in review videos and many of them in post reviews so people can just go back to those if they want to see the actual finishes.
I love the idea of just showing your kits like the rainy day videos, maybe pick your overall favorite kit or 2 and show them on camera? Best of both ideas? Haha love love love your videos! 🎉
I put blue lights on my pre-lit tree to add some color to the white lights. But… with the travel plans, I’d probably leave my tree as is and maybe catch some lights on sale after Christmas… or a new tree if the discount is good enough.
Is it possible to just leave the defective lights in place and maybe add some fairy lights to the tree to add the warm cozy atmosphere to your home? If not, try to take a breath and remember that the holiday season is more about spending time with loved ones than the decorations. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to stress. In the end the kids are going to remember the experiences of the holiday over the decor. ❤😊
In the past I've put bitter taste spray for cats & dogs on my tree so my cat (I only had my boy kitty then) doesn't try to eat it. It worked. We're not doing a tree this year or decorating because we're living with others & its not their thing, which is fine by us. Less stress with our 4 cats & their kitty messing with decorations. Plus, I currently have a broken arm from tripping over my boy kitty & landing hard on my arm. That happened the week before Thanksgiving & I needed surgery to help it heal correctly. I'm 14 days out post surgery & am healing well. I can use my arm, I just have to be careful of the remaining staples (they removed half of them yesterday, yay!) & my arm is still a bit weak. I'm so glad its not in a cast & I just have to wear & sleep in a sling. & keep our cats from walking on my arm. Our fluffy long haired girl has adorably laid her head on my hurt arm & given it purr therapy twice. It was so cute. So maybe that's helping me heal along with the metal plate & screws holding my elbow & arm together. Fun times. Hope you have a fun & safe trip coming up. I love this DP. My boyfriend got me Chloe the Maine Coon Glitter Cat from DAC for Christmas. I can't wait to work on it (after Christmas, of course). I'm just taking it easy & working on smaller DPs for now.

2 pieces of ribbon. That's what we use on some of the more awkward to get to windows. You pull on the screen until it clicks into place and just pull each ribbon from one end and viola. Hope that helps

For the year end video, maybe you could do b-roll of the completed kits and then do a voice over so you can focus on one thing at a time. Then you could also show any image thumbnails or whatever else you'd like to show

My sister Daisy stood with my friends and called me a theatre snob. Where we went out to eat, I got ice water thrown in my face by my friends. So, I have decided you love Wicked, I am glad for you. Love your WIP & Chats per usual ❣️!! As someone who loves Christmas, I can so relate to not always being in the mood and it being a bummer. My life has changed so much since having a kid that it almost feels more like a chore to be in the spirit and decorate, etc. But some years are better than others 🤷🏽♀️ And for what it’s worth good moms get to complain about the hard parts of parenting imo, everything we do in life can have its hard moments. Even diamond painting 😂 I would love for your year in review to be in a similar style to the rainy day stash. If I could offer a preference, it would be to have pictures of the completed kits vs the original artwork if that could be doable. But I will absolutely be watching whichever version you put out. For sections I prefer using the perforations if it has some, but if not I use cover paper from Artdot. They're really inexpensive and usable for ever! 😊 I'm all for the less wasteful method! 😊 For the year review, maybe do something like Lisette Did for the final destash detox video?

It’s actually nice to hear things and feelings in your life paralleling my own. I too am traveling to Ohio for the holidays which I’m excited for, but a bit stressed on the getting there w 2 small kids. and am a bit bah humbug about decorating my own house this year and hope once I get to my parents that I feel different. I am looking forward to Zoo lights, and donatos and cosi to name a few things. 🐦🔥❤️🔥
I haven’t seen Wicked (either version), but I have seen a few musicals live. Some were high school or college productions, but my favorite professional production was The Scarlet Pimpernel in LA in 2000-ish. The original Broadway actor for the role of the main character was performing and it was hilarious and amazing. My only idea for the year in review video is to take pictures or video of the completed canvases and use them as B-roll. That way you won’t have to fight with them while talking about them. You wouldn’t even have to have them all out at the same time, you could film one (or a few) and then put it away before moving on to the next. ⛩️My red emoji in honor of the DAC Black Friday kits that haven’t arrived yet - the funny thing is, I’ve been watching my order bounce around the Dallas/Fort Worth area for several days and now it’s gone to USPS so who knows when it will show up. That part is more head scratching than funny, what’s funny is that I live less than half an hour away from the distribution center. I’m not mad or anything, just shaking my head at the inefficiency of it all.
My strong preference for the year end review is to see the physical canvases. I don’t think I could sit through you just naming kits and showing the gems flow app. I’d nope out of that
I don’t mind stash videos showing a pic or box but preference with completed kits is seeing the actual kit because the pictures just don’t show the sparkle the same. That said your time and energy are more important and I would appreciate whatever works best for you
I have found that the comments are becoming so much more, not negative, but not too positive. I get that everyone has a particular style they personally like. But, just because there isn't something that fits their personal taste each week there are new releases, is not a slight by the company or a personal vendetta against customers. It's impossible to please everyone every time there is a new release. Business decisions tend to lead companies to launch what is predicted to perform the best and not result in an excess of "stale" inventory in their warehouse. I don't care for Disney too much. But it was a feeling of excitement by proxy seeing how happy and excited most customers were. I did buy 1 princess kit because it has a personal connection for me. And because there is an inside joke about that princess and me in my youth.

My boyfriend and I are having the same issues with nuero-diverse needs. He's on the spectrum and has been hyper-fixating on his computer and how it wasn't good enough. I spent almost $700 to upgrade a few lack luster components. It plays all the games he wants to play save for some VR games and now his complaint is it isn't good enough because he can't get the rgb lights to do what he wants them to do. I'm so over it. 🙄 🍫

I have never used the washi method. I used release papers until DAC came out with the perforation which I really like. I enjoy all your videos.

This has happened to my mom when she had one so she just bought lights for the tree and it worked beautifully
I have a perlite tree, lights went out ages ago. Left them on, bought a box of lights so I put them on every year.. no worries, will be just fine.

Hi Katie. I had the same issue with my pre-lit tree a few years ago and I just used a couple string lights to fill in the dark areas until I was able to buy a new tree. It worked fine and was the cheap & easy solution at the time. The tree had 3 sections and the middle section wouldn’t light. We tried using the light tool to find the issue and my husband tried to fix it since he is an electrician but no luck.

I like the idea of your year end review being the style where you show your face and photos of finishes. You already showed the canvases in the month in review videos and many of them in post reviews so people can just go back to those if they want to see the actual finishes.

I put blue lights on my pre-lit tree to add some color to the white lights. But… with the travel plans, I’d probably leave my tree as is and maybe catch some lights on sale after Christmas… or a new tree if the discount is good enough.
Is it possible to just leave the defective lights in place and maybe add some fairy lights to the tree to add the warm cozy atmosphere to your home? If not, try to take a breath and remember that the holiday season is more about spending time with loved ones than the decorations. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to stress. In the end the kids are going to remember the experiences of the holiday over the decor. ❤😊
In the past I've put bitter taste spray for cats & dogs on my tree so my cat (I only had my boy kitty then) doesn't try to eat it. It worked. We're not doing a tree this year or decorating because we're living with others & its not their thing, which is fine by us. Less stress with our 4 cats & their kitty messing with decorations. Plus, I currently have a broken arm from tripping over my boy kitty & landing hard on my arm. That happened the week before Thanksgiving & I needed surgery to help it heal correctly. I'm 14 days out post surgery & am healing well. I can use my arm, I just have to be careful of the remaining staples (they removed half of them yesterday, yay!) & my arm is still a bit weak. I'm so glad its not in a cast & I just have to wear & sleep in a sling. & keep our cats from walking on my arm. Our fluffy long haired girl has adorably laid her head on my hurt arm & given it purr therapy twice. It was so cute. So maybe that's helping me heal along with the metal plate & screws holding my elbow & arm together. Fun times. Hope you have a fun & safe trip coming up. I love this DP. My boyfriend got me Chloe the Maine Coon Glitter Cat from DAC for Christmas. I can't wait to work on it (after Christmas, of course). I'm just taking it easy & working on smaller DPs for now.

2 pieces of ribbon. That's what we use on some of the more awkward to get to windows. You pull on the screen until it clicks into place and just pull each ribbon from one end and viola. Hope that helps

For the year end video, maybe you could do b-roll of the completed kits and then do a voice over so you can focus on one thing at a time. Then you could also show any image thumbnails or whatever else you'd like to show

I am working on Christmas 🎄 for Jingle Drills. Love hearing about your family. I saw Wicked at Pantages probably in the first decade of this Century. My sister( may she rest in peace) and two friends loved it. I disliked Wicked so much I got a pounding headache. I called my friends fools for liking such garbage. My sister Daisy stood with my friends and called me a theatre snob. Where we went out to eat, I got ice water thrown in my face by my friends. So, I have decided you love Wicked, I am glad for you.
What are my plans for the holidays. My friends and I have lunch at El Torito in Lakewood on Saturday to exchange gifts. Will be a fun afternoon considering I am on ADHD drugs, etc.

My life has changed so much since having a kid that it almost feels more like a chore to be in the spirit and decorate, etc. But some years are better than others 🤷🏽♀️ And for what it’s worth good moms get to complain about the hard parts of parenting imo, everything we do in life can have its hard moments. Even diamond painting 😂 I would love for your year in review to be in a similar style to the rainy day stash. If I could offer a preference, it would be to have pictures of the completed kits vs the original artwork if that could be doable. But I will absolutely be watching whichever version you put out. For sections I prefer using the perforations if it has some, but if not I use cover paper from Artdot. They're really inexpensive and usable for ever! 😊

I too am traveling to Ohio for the holidays which I’m excited for, but a bit stressed on the getting there w 2 small kids. and am a bit bah humbug about decorating my own house this year and hope once I get to my parents that I feel different. I haven’t seen Wicked (either version), but I have seen a few musicals live. Some were high school or college productions, but my favorite professional production was The Scarlet Pimpernel in LA in 2000-ish. The original Broadway actor for the role of the main character was performing and it was hilarious and amazing.
My only idea for the year in review video is to take pictures or video of the completed canvases and use them as B-roll. That way you won’t have to fight with them while talking about them. You wouldn’t even have to have them all out at the same time, you could film one (or a few) and then put it away before moving on to the next.
⛩️My red emoji in honor of the DAC Black Friday kits that haven’t arrived yet - the funny thing is, I’ve been watching my order bounce around the Dallas/Fort Worth area for several days and now it’s gone to USPS so who knows when it will show up. That part is more head scratching than funny, what’s funny is that I live less than half an hour away from the distribution center. I’m not mad or anything, just shaking my head at the inefficiency of it all.

I don’t mind stash videos showing a pic or box but preference with completed kits is seeing the actual kit because the pictures just don’t show the sparkle the same. That said your time and energy are more important and I would appreciate whatever works best for you

I have found that the comments are becoming so much more, not negative, but not too positive. I get that everyone has a particular style they personally like. But, just because there isn't something that fits their personal taste each week there are new releases, is not a slight by the company or a personal vendetta against customers. It's impossible to please everyone every time there is a new release. Business decisions tend to lead companies to launch what is predicted to perform the best and not result in an excess of "stale" inventory in their warehouse.
I don't care for Disney too much. But it was a feeling of excitement by proxy seeing how happy and excited most customers were. I did buy 1 princess kit because it has a personal connection for me. And because there is an inside joke about that princess and me in my youth.
Katie, you lay down those round drills so evenly. What is your secret method?

My boyfriend and I are having the same issues with nuero-diverse needs. He's on the spectrum and has been hyper-fixating on his computer and how it wasn't good enough. I spent almost $700 to upgrade a few lack luster components. It plays all the games he wants to play save for some VR games and now his complaint is it isn't good enough because he can't get the rgb lights to do what he wants them to do. I'm so over it. 🙄 🍫
