    This Reserve Engine, 1996 E.ONE, Ex Seattle are currently part of MedTrans Fire / Rescue SVC Santiago Chile, since 2014. We Upgraded it with new Alcoa Wheels and new front bumper. We kept the yellow stripping. Never a failure, it is by far the most reliable machine in the fleet. We called " The Turtle " Slow but made for last...

    Sometimes it's interesting which lane the driver took. For example at 3:15, 2 lanes straight free and he take line of the traffic toward.

    • @akimbo5u
      @akimbo5u 10 років тому +47

      rule #1 of driving emergency: ALWAYS PASS ON THE LEFT WHEN POSSIBLE. The law states that cars need to move to the right when they see an emergency vehicle with their lights and sirens on, alot of dumb drivers take it literally and move to right lane even when its open and clear.

    • @DeltaTristar500
      @DeltaTristar500 10 років тому +16

      I think they want to always try to pass on the left whenever possible since people usually pull to the right

    • @JusticeSevenfold
      @JusticeSevenfold 10 років тому +6

      akimbo5u is there a rule #2 of driving emergency where "drive in the oncoming lane as little as possible" could have been applied here just as well?

    • @akimbo5u
      @akimbo5u 10 років тому +9

      JusticeSevenfold rule #2 is you have to apply your judgment based on the situation, in most situations driving into oncoming traffic is much easier since cars see you and respond much faster then when you approach behind them

    • @JusticeSevenfold
      @JusticeSevenfold 10 років тому +4

      akimbo5u It just seems so very awkward at the very least. Civilian vehicles that are going straight through an intersection where there is a left turning lane pass those cars using the right side all the time. Why wouldn't the emergency vehicles do the same? It seems counter intuitive to pass on the left of a car that is already trying to turn left, plus going into on coming traffic while there is a perfectly good lane that any regular would use to go straight through anyway. Seems more dangerous and slower than necessary for emergency drivers to zig zag around futilely.

      Drivers should know their first due area fairly well. Also, the mobile computers we have in my city have GPS in case they don't know the exact location. And the officer controls the computer, so it is their job to give directions to the driver if they need them.

    • @edmontonboy99
      @edmontonboy99 7 років тому +3

      It actually helps if you know your city more than anybody. Areas are easy to memorize, if you're a driver of a fire truck, you know where to go.

  • @pizzasubs
    @pizzasubs 9 років тому

    quick question if I may, do you guys have the capibility of when you are responding to a call and you come up to a 4-way intersection with signal lights, that you can either make all 4 directions turn red so that All the traffic Hopefully stops and you can make it through safely or you can just turn one direction Red and the direction you are traveling green and all this done via a remote of some sort that you keep in all trucks and engines??????

    • @hvfd354
      @hvfd354 9 років тому

      I don't know about Seattle and what they have but some departments may use remotes but there is also something called an Opticom system in which a strobe light module is mounted on top of an emergency vehicle and it emits towards a traffic light that contains a receiver on top of it and it changes the light via Infared. Also there is GPS systems too.

Interestingly though, they still go code-red with lights and siren. In my department, we have the discretion to downgrade to code-yellow (proceed non-emergency) if the call information warrants it.

    cell phones are the worst and best things for 911. there should be an iq test to buy a cell phone. mainly, how to tell the difference from a camp fire and a structure fire, how to tell the difference between some guy changing his tire and a mva, and how to tell the difference between smoke and steam.

    • @alexandermakrianis
      @alexandermakrianis 9 років тому

      +Rick1885 I know exactly how you feel. I can't tell you how many times we get called out for a structure fire that turns out to be steam from a dryer vent, a vehicle fire that turns out to be a coolant leak/overheating, and the list goes on all because of some bonehead with a cell phone who didn't check. What really pisses me off is they don't wait for anyone to get there, they just drive off and vanish without a trace. I think that they should track these people down and fine them for making a phony 911 call and fleeing the scene.
